Frank, Dallas, NC is in Gaston Co NC which was part of Lincoln Co until
about 1847. The reunion is at the LUTHERAN Church because the early
Clemmer(Klammer) were Lutheran Germans. Holy Communion Lutheran Church, 103
W. Church St, Dallas, NC Tel (704) 922 5375. Consider this your invitation.
Everyone brings food, some Kentucky Fried Chicken. The reunion is usually
the first Sunday in August, and John Clemmer at email KLEMERJT(a)aol.com usually
presents the history program. Send him some interesting Clemmer stories.

Reply to Geraldine about the Clemmer Gold Rush.---Mr Len Clemmer found the
story of the Clemmer Gold Mine in a brochure from the Reid
Gold Mine near Charlotte NC, which had a huge nuggett of gold that the Reed
family used for
a door stop for years until someone noticed it was real GOLD. Until 1849, NC
produced
more gold than any other state. In our yet to be published book, there is a
geological map
with the Clemmer Gold mine marked, obtained by Lenny Clemmer. Don't rush to
NC to get
your Clemmer inheritance just yet. It was an open pit mine, and was filled in
when Clemmer
road was paved, because the land owner wanted to live closer to the paved
road. My father
in law, Audrey Clemmer says in the 1920's the kids claimed ghosts were seen
near the pit
after dark. ----Also the Rhyne family of Gearldean has a family history in
"Footprints in Time" at the Gaston Co Public Library in Gastonia, NC if anyone
wants to go back to 1500 Switzerland to " The Rine who farms with oxen"

Frank:
I was happy to see your letter and to be able to fit you in the picture
in my mind. That's what I have been waiting for! I have copied most of
the letters that have come in (Missed a few during holidays) and have
been searching all I have to try to determine where everyone fits in.
Sure makes it a lot easier to have it in one letter.
Thank you for the information about the reunion. I can't bring myself
to go places where there are crowds of people. (I call crowds a
gathering of more than 3 people) I am getting better but still have a
problem. I am 56 years old, so I don't expect there will be a drastic
improvement! At least I worked up enough courage to write to the
newsletter.
Thanks again for the information. I hope to see more of the same kind
of information from others!

Has anyone read the book "The Carolina Gold Rush, America's First" by
Bruce Roberts? Copyrighted l97l. My brother found the book at the
University Library in Fayetteville, Ark. He told me there was a Clemmer
and a Rhyne listed on a claim map in the book. I haven't found the book
here, yet. Does anyone know anything about that?
Thank you for your help, Charles

Dear Gearldean,
I saw that Charles Hite (who has been doing this a lot longer than I have!)
can connect you to Valentine Clemmer's children who settled in Lincoln County,
NC.
If that is true, you may be interested in attending the annual Clemmer
reunion, held normally on the second Sunday in August each year in
Presbyterian Church in Dallas, Lincoln County, North Carolina. Most attendees
are descendants of Valentine Clemmer. I descend through Valentine's son,
Lewis (and from Lewis to Eli to Levi to Richard to Lee Levi to Otha Hampton to
Otha Dewitt to ME (Frank Dewitt Clemmer). I only travelled there from
Atlanta, GA, last year, but I still won the "greatest distance travelled"
recognition! The welcome from all my "cousins" was great, even though I
brought no food. I did not know you had to bring food, but I tried to make up
for it by a large cash contribution when they passed the hat. Next time, I'll
bring food!
Email me next summer and I will let you know the details as I receive them.
Frank Clemmer
Gearldean Your Adam Clemmer, wife Louisa Rhyne is listed in "Our Kin". The
index has his page # incorrectly listed. You are descended from
the Valentine Clemmer wife Margaret-Eliz. as that is the only Clemmer family
in Lincoln Co NC 1800. Do you have any of your Rhyne ancestors on Louisa
Rhyne Clenner's side?
Charles Hite
The desktop publishing sounds like a good idea to me!
I have a book on another branch of my family that consists of loose leaf
pages put into a notebook. A bound book looks nicer but the information
is the important thing.
Should you decide to publish a book, I want to buy a copy.

To Charles Hite:
What about just seeing how many of us on the Clemmer list would ante up
$20 to help you get the book on the Clemmer documents published?
If we could get 50 people interested enough to send in their money, could
you just have 50-60 printed?
Have you thought about doing your book via desk-top publishing? I used to
own a desktop publishing business in Houston before moving to Oregon and
am all set up to do that kind of printing job and the cost would depend
on the number of pages you want to run and the binding you select and if
there are any color pages involved. The advantage to doing it via desktop
publishing is that you can do as many or as few copies as you want, 25-50
being an ideal desktop publishing project number. A commercial printer
can hardly turn on the press for under 100 copies.

Yes, I am descended from the Adam and Louisa that you mentioned,
although the birthdate I have for Louisa is Feb. 26, l9l3.
Leander Robertus was the brother of my gr. grandfather, Henry Curtis
Clemmer. He was also the grandfather of Chera Clemmer's husband.
I do not have a copy of the book "Our Kin". I think you are saying that
I am also descended from the Felty Clemmer who died in Pa. and that the
information I have that he came from Pa. to N.C. was incorrect. I am
beginning to think someone along the line was hatched!
Thanks for your help.

Gearaldean:
All of the Clemmers in the Salem Church Cemetery are my grandparents, John
David and Ida May Friday Clemmer and their infant children. All the Clemmers,
except one, in the Concord Baptist Church Cemetery are Granddad's first cousin
and his wife and children. The one exception is the man listed as a WWII
veteran who dide in the 1950s. I haven't the slightest idea who he is, and he
is a contemperary of mine. I lived between the Concord church and Salem
Church from 1938 to 1943. I never went back after I left the Navy.

Is there a Valentine Clemmer not burried in a cemetary in or around the

Anyone else?

I found it this afternoon and came up with lots of interesting things!
Rowan Co. marriages listed William Hancock and Margaret Clemmer married
l Mar. l792. Possibility this is where the confusion about the name
"Hancock" comes in?
After I went to the site, I typed in the name Clemmer. There are
cemetery records for Salem United Methodist Church Cemetery in

There may be others but I haven't found them yet.

name of God, Amen. This 28th day of June One Thousand Eight Hundred and

being weak of body, yet of sound mind and memory, calling to mind the
mortality of my body and knowing that it is appointed to all men once to die,
do make this my last will and testament. And in the first place I bequeath
that I be buried with a decent burial and in the second place I bequeath to my

the third place I bequeath to my oldest son George L. Klemmer one hundred
dollars to be paid or taken out of my estate for services that the said son
George L. Klemmer is to perform. And in the next place, I bequeath to Andrew
Klemmer, David Klemmer, Mary Klemmer Brosius, wife of Jacob Brosius, John
Klemmer, Elizabeth Klemmer Lanceford, wife of Reuben Lanceford, all to have an
equal share of my estate. After that I have bequeathed to my daughter, Peggy
Klemmer, her quota with the hundred dollars above mentioned to George L.
Klemmer and a small legacy to my daughter Polly Klemmer McCormick, wife of
William McCormick. I bequeath to my daughter Polly McCormick, wife of William
McCormick, the sum of five dollars to be paid one year after my decease. And
in the next place I bequeath to my daughter Peggy and equal share with the
rest of the legacies and one hundred dollars more than any of them except my
son George L. Klemmer. And I bequeath to Francis, Peggy's son, that she now
has the amount of bond that is on John Lowman with the interest on the same
until paid and the said money to be appropriated to the education of the said
