Dear All
This is my first posting to this list and I am currently researching the CLEMENTS family in Leicestershire and Grantham, Lincolnshire here in the UK for a friend of my mother's who was married to a member of the Clements family but is now a widow. Currently I am looking at the whereabouts of Charles William CLEMENTS who was born in Maidstone, Kent to Charles CLEMENTS and Mary Ann nee DRINKWATER. Charles William married Edith TURNER in Wigston Magna, Leicestershire on January 31st 1891 and they had three children Florence Hilda, Frances Ida and Doris Maud between 1893 and 1898. At this stage they seem to be a normal family. However ...
1901 Census - Charles William and the three girls are at home in Wigston Magna, Leicestershire with his mother in law. The whereabouts of Edith have yet to discovered.
1911 Census - Edith is living with someone called Ernest ? in Leicester who subsequently bore him a daughter. (I have not seen the Census return yet but I have been told this by a descendant of this daughter.) The girls are now living with their mother. The whereabouts of Charles William have yet to be ascertained.
Charles William resurfaces in 1916 in Grantham when he marries Eliza Monk by whom he has 5 children. He is described as a bachelor on the marriage certificate. I am sure that this is the same the same Charles William because his age is correct and his father, although now deceased, is described as a "sanitory inspector" which he was. He is working as a cook in Belton Park near Grantham which was taken over by the army during the First World War. He died in May 1948 in Grantham.
So if anyone has been researching this branch of the family and has any information to share I would love to hear from them.
Many thanks in advance.
Best regards
Peter Gout
Hi
I am researching my ggggrandfather and descendants. His name was Peter Clements and he was born in Devon, Exeter. He married Mary Avery in Liverpool and raised a family and passed away there. His two sons were named Malachi and George. My grandfather, also Peter Clements, was the youngest of Malachi's children and was sent as a British Home Child to Canada in 1896. I doubt this information is relevant to your concerns but thought I would send it along.
Terry Clements
Vernon, BC, Canada
