Hi Margie:
There is no such place as Weibech in Cambridgeshire. I think you meant
Wisbech.
It's very helpful to obtain a copy of the AA Road Atlas of England, as
it has an excellent gazetteer, in which you will be able to check the
names and locations of towns or villages. I use mine all the time. You
can probably get it from your local auto club or from a good
bookstore. They are usually around $15 or so.
My CLEMENTS line was in Portsmouth, Hampshire so unlikely to be
related. I have Henry CLEMENTS chr. 3 Mar 1799, s/o Henry and
Elizabeth, who married Charlotte TODD at Alverstoke 6 Feb 1826 and had
two daughters Mary Ann CLEMENTS, chr. 11 Sep 1825 St. Mary's Portsea
Hampshire, and Charlotte CLEMENTS chr. 24 Sep 1828 St. Mary's Portsea
Hampshire. Henry was buried 17 Feb 1833, St. Mary's Portsea, Hampshire,
and Charlotte buried 16 Jun 1829 also at St. Mary's Portsea Hampshire.
Both daughters were in the Portsea Workhouse in the 1841 census, and in
March 1854 both were married, four days apart. Charlotte married Thomas
CONNELL, a seaman, on 8 Mar 1854 at St. Mary's Portsea, and died in
March qtr 1898 at Woolwich, Kent. No children known. Mary Ann married
William Davis MAY at St. Mary's Portsea on 12 Mar 1854, and had four
children. She died in Mar qtr 1875.
The children were:
Mary Jane MAY, b. Mar qtr 1857, m. Dec qtr 1875 to William Henry
LOVELESS, with two children William Henry LOVELESS, b. 1876, and May
Grace LOVELESS, b. 1880, who died in 1887.
Grace MAY, b. Jun qtr 1859, chr. 12 Jun 1859 St. Mary's Portsea, not
married.
Alice Ann MAY b. Mar qtr 1861, chr. 31 Mar 1861 St. Mary's Portsea, m.
16 Feb 1880 to Edmund Squire WILLCOCKS, St. Mary's Portsea, and had six
children, two of whom died in infancy, and she died Jun qtr 1936 in
Portsmouth, Hampshire.
William Henry MAY, b. 7 Jan 1863, chr. 5 May 1863 St. Mary's Portsea,
Hampshire, m. Kate Emily DOLING in Dec qtr 1887 at Portmouth, had a long
Navy career that continued until 1919.
I have had very little additional information about Henry CLEMENTS'
ancestry, other than my father's story that the older Henry was a
minister, which has not been confirmed. So far as I'm aware, none of
this family emigrated to America.
Regards
Martin Willcocks
Taylorsville, UT, USA.
I'm sorry but my Harriet had 5 brothers...none of them named Peter. If I
come across a Peter in my researching, I will contact you.

I guess our two great-grandmothers are not related. My Harriet Clements was
born in 1833 & married in 1857 to William Alcock in Weibech, Cambridgeshire,
England.. She died in Lenawee County, Michigan in 1907, I suppose they
could be cousins but
I have not found any other Harriet's so far. As more and more English
records come online, maybe we will be able to find out for sure.

Hello Becky,
I have not done any recent searching on Samuel Clements. My Dad told me
(when I was a teen-ager) that we were related to "Mark Twain". I did do a
little research but found nothing to give me a lead, so I dropped it. My
great-grandmother was
Harriet Clements and her parents were John and Martha Clements of Sidmouth,
Devon, England. I can see no connection to Samuel at the present tune and I
think his
Clements came from another part of England. I will be interested to hear if
you do
find some connection. Wish you luck!

Hello Becky,
No, I have not found anything on John but I haven't been looking lately as I
have been busy with other lines. I hope you hit the jackpot in Indiana!
My Dad told us kids that we were related to "Mark Twain" but I do not
remember
how we are connected. My great-grandmother was a Clements. She was born in
1833 in England and came to the US in 1858. I do have her family
information but
do not know if there were any John or Samuel Clements in it. My Dad passed
on
in 1984, long before I began researching the families.

Hi
I have spent the last few years researching my Clements family roots in
England. The oldest ancestor I have been able to find is Peter Clements who
was born in Exeter in Devon, probably about 1815 or a little earlier. I
wonder, seeing your ancestors are from Devon if you have any Peters in your
tree?

Hi, all,
Other than appearing in John's household as a 12-year-old on the 1850 Boone
Co., IN census, does anyone know of any documentation proving that Samuel
was John's son?
I'm going to try to make some contacts in Boone County to see what I can
find, but I thought I'd toss this out to you all first, in case anyone else
knows. I'm hoping John left a will that names his children, or perhaps the
marriage record of Samuel and Drucilla Evans names their parents.
Whatever I find, I will share with the List.
Thanks,
Samuel's gg-granddaughter,
Becky Thames-Simmons
