I have found the surname CLEMENTS in Franklin County, Indiana, databases. I also saw the surnames SAM & FECHER on the list of contributors to St. Peter's Catholic Church, Franklin County. And, I have found a Peter FECHER (76, Bavaria) in the 1870 Federal Census for Franklin County, Salt Creek Twp. I have reason to believe this is the Peter FECHER (age 44) who immigrated aboard the Bark Potomac in October 1836. Also on the ship were families named SAAM & CLEMENTS. These families are all listed together (among the 110 passengers on the Potomac). Would these immigrant families be the ones who settled in Franklin County?
The reason I ask, is that I am trying to trace the Henry LANG who was listed between the CLEMENTS and FECHER families. Henry LANG's brother, Bernard, married Elisabeth FECHER in Bavaria. Some, if not most, of these families came from the Aschaffenburg/Niedernberg/Grossesheim area of Bavaria. Perhaps Henry LANG settled for awhile in Franklin County with the FECHERs, SAAMs, and CLEMENTs. He married Catherine SCHEURICH two days after landing in Baltimore. She also immigrated aboard the Potomac with her parents, brothers, sisters, nieces & nephews. They were from Niedernberg. Most of the SCHEURICHs settled in Jasper, Dubois County, Indiana; but, I have not found Henry LANG there.
Censuses for 1850 and after have Henry & Catherine LANG living in Dubuque County, Iowa. Their first child, Joseph Henry, is listed as having been born about 1837/38 (sometimes in Indiana, and sometimes in Illinois).
I'm wondering if you CLEMENTS researchers have come across any LANGs in your research?
You can read more about the LANGs and SCHEURICHs in the "Lang Family History" at my website (in my signature).
Thanks for any help you can be.
