Beginning March 2nd, 2020 the Mailing Lists functionality on RootsWeb will be discontinued. Users will no longer be able to send outgoing emails or accept incoming emails. Additionally, administration tools will no longer be available to list administrators and mailing lists will be put into an archival state.
Administrators may save the emails in their list prior to March 2nd. After that, mailing list archives will remain available and searchable on RootsWeb
This message was not sent to Greg since he dont believe in this stuff, so if you want to know more about this, you can ask , if you use win 95 or 98 or ME as it states , dont worry.
This virus has been attacking Lennix servers. The following is a certified part of a warning and it dont use e-mail , just the fact that you are online is all it needs. !
======================================================
If you want to read up on this se my virus website. look up Virus Encyclopedia , and enter RED CODE in the search window ------------ the below was from another source far more reliable.
================
On July 19, the Code Red worm infected more than 250,000 systems in
just 9 hours. The worm scans the Internet, identifies vulnerable
systems, and infects these systems by installing itself. Each newly
installed worm joins all the others causing the rate of scanning to
grow rapidly. This uncontrolled growth in scanning directly decreases
the speed of the Internet and can cause sporadic but widespread
outages among all types of systems. Code Red is likely to start
spreading again on July 31st, 2001 8:00 PM EDT and has mutated so that
it may be even more dangerous. This spread has the potential to
disrupt business and personal use of the Internet for applications
such as electronic commerce, email and entertainment.
Who Must Act?
Every organization or person who has Windows NT or Windows 2000
systems AND the IIS web server software may be vulnerable. IIS is
installed automatically for many applications. If you are not certain,
follow the instructions attached to determine whether you are running
IIS 4.0 or 5.0. If you are using Windows 95, Windows 98, or Windows
Me, there is no action that you need to take in response to this
alert.
===============================
I would not have sent this , but I do not want people to think Virus's are not something to worry about.
I did not write the warning between the ===== marks
People with win 2000 or NT do need to worry, I already know one of my people who lost their whole hard drive from this.

Outgoing mail is certified Virus Free.
Checked by AVG anti-virus system (http://www.grisoft.com).
Version: 6.0.265 / Virus Database: 137 - Release Date: 7/18/01
This is the last time I will comment
You can listen to Greg and take your chances , or you can be protected and be safe by choice =
Not all virus's need attachments, not all virus's need e-mail , and many times they are embedded in text documents, web sites and people using the back door of your system.
I have provided some links for people to learn on their own about virus's =
AND also since GREG said he use's TEXT only - this e-mail he sent IS HTML not text.
Also I spend a lot of time helping people learn how to do things the right way , not make excuse's not to be protected.
From this point Gregs address (* will *) be blocked as I am done with this argument.
Any one want to learn safe computing I have provided a place to learn about any virus in the world , and if it is a Hoax or real and what Trojans and payloads they have .
I will not argue with people who think they do not need to have a virus protection, once I felt like that too and got a virus from a website while surfing , I did not even have the mail program running .
I am unsubscribibg from the Clements list also as I want to detach from this argument , I will stop my research on my Clements side -
Any one who receives this, you are very welcome to see my web site, also look up the new SirCam virus and also there is one that has attacked the Lennix system in a Varity of names involving Red etc: and has knocked out some servers, so if you do or dont have protection, this is up to the people, but I will not be a party to help tell them they do not need it.
And as for HTML I like what I can do with it , and if any one wants or needs help with their system or Outlook or Outlook Express you are welcome to join my help list , no negativity allowed there.
Also as plain text dont pass a virus, this who have it pass them to you - also you do receive attachments and it is nice to have a program to scan them on a floppy before opening them, even from a trusted source , like the Bad Trans took so many people because they either knew and trusted the source , this new virus Sir Cam has some * sayings* with it that have already convinced over 6000 people to open it and receive a virus.
I do not care how good a person is, if you think you are good enough to use the net with out protection, you should be working for all the state and federal agencies that got some of these virus, or the Lennix systems or the thousands of people who got them, my only desire is to help those who want to be helped and not argue with any who do not .
I will not reply to another one on this mass mailings , sorry for this reply , some of you must be getting tired of this by now.
Apologies
Dan

Subject: Email Virus
Dan thank you for your response to my email.
This portion of information is from your web page.
The Virus you are talking about can be included in Html emails. with out
atttachments. I use onhly text I do not allow any Html email messages.
As I said before you can not get a Virus from using text alone.
You can get the Virus by a HTML email.
You can also get it by files attachments or pictures sent that you open up.
I do know what I am talking about I am an experienced user and install and
deal with hardware and software installlation all the time. I also deal with
Virus software and how they work.
If you use text only you can not get a Virus. Html emails are not text files.
I have surfed the internet for many years and do not ever send files or
attachments or view web page emails that can contain these viruses.
Plain text emails can not contain a Virus.

This person is very WRONG
Virus does not only use attachments and until this person gets wise
every one better be on their toe's
And as this goes on, the e-mail in question had the KAK virus **
embedded** in the text of the message in question
See my Virus help site and go to the web site referred to for KAK you
will find all it needs is rich text e-mail and (*** NO attachment***) I
also pulled the message source codes from the message in question and anyone
else who got it and ignored the fact it contained the virus you better be
looking for HTA and KAK in their files and folders, including Autoexec.bat
if you have it.
As for Greg, you need a lot of study you can and you will, and as for
using the net with out anti virus , I guess you just explained to others if
they want mail from you if you do not plan to be protected from virus and
works and Trojans =
Any one who wants to study about the KAK which is a very old virus you
can see my VIRUS help website and go through the hoops of learning , this is
why I put it there, for those who care to help them selves = Read about KAK,
go to the web sites , read my notes.
Enjoy the net, be safe get protection before you are the one who says
(* Hey what happened to my computer?*)
By the way, I am not arguing, just offering some honest advice. Virus dont
just attack e-mail, it also attacks the windows, and Bio's and boot sectors
of hard drives. They all do NOT just float via attachments , some are in the
embedded code, some are in web pages they can get there from a web host who
dont believe they can get a virus and has one due to this fact and it
uploads with a web page they write , and there are a few that think adding
the virus to a web site is funny , there are people who also have done that
in the past.
Well any way, you can either follow those who do , or those who dont . I
choose to run antivirus soft ware , I also have studied virus's and am a
member of a few lists that keep up on them , so you can see my website, or
not, you can view the Virus Eye listed there too if you wish ; or not .
Enjoy the net, while you can ; or not , but do not ever believe ALL
virus need an attachment , if I did not care about people and their
computers, I would not have responded with the warning I got when I first
got the mail in question, my warning went off and I warned every one as soon
as I pulled the source code's from it.
I wont make any more replies to this subject , its your call , no
point to be ignorant when the facts are a simple matter of going and reading
them.
( PS as for spelling and fixing computers, or using the net, I have many
more years in than you , I consult people and fix their systems, I build
computers, and before the internet became a house hold word ; I also had my
own BBS and was Co-op and Co-sysop on 13 others) as for credentials , I have
plenty , no point in this tho, the point was KAK , you missed it. Greg ?
This has been TEXT information , I hope who ever follows you are a
quick study in being open minded.

I am searching for information on my Great Grandfather Daniel Clements,
although the only info. that I have on him is a physical desciption. I
do know that he had to have been born sometime around the 1870's. My
mother told me once that he came from Turkey, but I am not sure on how
accurate that is.
Daniel Clements married one Marie Chandler, but I am not to sure on
her maiden name, since it was said that she took her step-father's last
name also. But on her I know that she was a Registered Nurse in
Michigan.
If anyon can please help me out I would be greatful.
Thank you,
Darleen
I received this message with a worm virus attached. My virus protection
deleted it, but for thoes of you not running virus protection,
CHECK YOUR SYSTEMS !!!

I am Betty (Clements) Chilcutt. I am looking for my grandfather Joe
Clements. He and another young man walked to Mississippi around 1910-1918
from Texas,I have no idea wherein Texas. Joe stayed in Ms. and married Mary
Cora Rankin form Sarepta, Ms. They had at least 2 children (I think they
also had other children but may died at an early age) a son Clenton L.
Clements and a daughter U.V. Clements who married a Campbell and then a
Pritchard. The other young man who walked with my grandfather, went on to
Ala. or Flordia. I don't know if this man was a brother, cousin, or just a
friend. My grandfather later died in Flordia around 1954. This is all the
infomation that I have. If any one could please give me more information on
Joe Clements, I would very much appreaciate it. I have just started on this
family history and really need alot of help. Thanks again

The original message from Betty was infected by the KAK virus
ANY ONE reading the original message who is not protected by antivirus or
do not have their e-mail set to warn about Active - X or VBS scripts have
received a virus from this message and you MUST look in to your (( find all
files and folders for KAK and HTA )) if it shows , you MUST see my web site
for virus help and look for the KAK cleaner there.
Warning please do this before you infect others
Do Not pass this message around .
This message is in plain text - KAK can not travel in plain text but
if you are running an address book , you are sending it to every one //
One thing about this virus , if a person is completely unprtected, they
will NEVER know they got it, or passed it.
BETTY = please use my web site too there are KAK claeaners there and also a
few FREE anti virus programs
Good luck = and if any one wants help to set up their Outlook express
or Internet explorer to warn about this type of thing just ask, i have a
