Dear Ancestor
Your tombstone stands among the rest;
Neglected and alone.
The name and date are chiseled out
On polished, marbled stone.
It reaches out to all who care
It is too late to mourn.
You did not know that I exist
You died and I was born.
Yet each of us are cells of you
In flesh, in blood, in bone.
Our blood contracts and beats a pulse
Entirely not our own.
Dear Ancestor, the place you filled
One hundred years ago
Spreads out among the ones you left
Who would have loved you so.
I wonder if you lived and loved,
I wonder if you knew
That someday I would find this spot,
And come to visit you.

Hi Everyone!!
I would like to know if there are going to be any Clement(s) researchers at
the Northeast Alabama Genealogical Society's Swap Meet in Gadsden, AL on
April 8. It sounds very interesting and I plan on going.
For those of you who don't know about this or what it is, let me know
privately and I'll send you what I received about it.

I also had the same problem with old photos, only I was never told who they were.
Several of my cousins also had boxes of old photos. What I did was scan them into
my computer, put them in Microsoft Power Point, then transfer them to a video
tape. I have shown these at family reunions, I have been lucky enough to find out
who 6 of them were, I hope that the more I show these to large groups of family
members maybe more will be recognized.
Just a thought.
Sheila

If you have Quaker ancestors from the Chester County, Henry County (IN),
Belmont County (OH), and/or from New Jersey and especially if you have any
of the names below in your database, PLEASE check out my Unidentified
People Pages!
To those of you who find yourselves with unidentified photos, the WWW is
the absolutely best way to get them identified... (but you have to keep
bugging people to look at them!)
<G>
Thanks for checking!

JANEY, LACH, LEEDS, LIPPINCOTT, McCONNELL, MACKENZIE, PATTON, STOKES,

I am in the process of scanning all my old photos and burning them on a CD.
I intend to include a mystery gallery section for those unknown photos.
Next I plan to do a mass reproduction and mailing of the CD's to family
members with computers to see what else I can shake loose from the
relatives. <big grin>
You are right. I'm so thankful my sister and I sat down and identified old
pictures with our Grandmother in 1970 and she told us who they were, and we
wrote on the back sides of the photos. My dad left an old suitcase full of
pictures that he had saved through his lifetime -- no identification on
them. I identified the ones I knew about, but much is lost.
A distant cousin from Washington sent me photo copies of the old pictures
her g-grandmother left to her. She sent to me to see if I knew who they
were. Much to my surprise, some were of me and my brother and sister when
we were small children. I identified many of them for her. Evidently, my
Grandmother sent pictures to her sister in Oregon throughout the years, and
they ended up with this cousin. Sure was fun looking at the old pictures,
because a lot of them were "new" to me.
God bless....

Just before my parents died, my mother gave me a huge stack
of photos and negatives that she had accumulated over her
life span, of both hers and my father's side of the family.
Growing up with these pictures, I had been told who they
were, but like most kids, all the names did not sink into my
young mind.
I didn't start to go through the many photos until months
after both parents died. Much to disgust there were many of
the old, yellowed ones that I did not recognize. There are
no writing on the front or back to say just who these people
were. I guess the thinking was that we were told at one
time, or that any identifying notes were written on the
album page next to the picture. Now that there is no album,
the is no identification.
These photos now are neatly stored in my "Unidentified"
drawer with not a lot of hopes that I will ever know who
these people are that my mom thought enough of to save their
photos.
Now just recently I received some more photos from a first
cousin. Luckily I knew most of the persons on these photos,
but there were hardly any that were identified. Hopefully
she and I can communicate with each other to right there
individuals.
The point that I make with this message is, that I know that
I am not alone with this problem. I appeal to each and all
of you... Please take the time and sat right down and for
that photos that have no identification on them, write as
much information about the subjects of the photo as you can
on the back of each. Don't assume that everyone else knows
the person on the picture. My parents did that. Back when
families were more close knit, everyone knew. As spread out
as we are now, your daughter may not even know your uncle
George.
