Hi all,
I'm looking for any information on:
James CLEMENS/CLEMMENS m. Sophia (Sellers?) and located in Darke Co., OH
about 1820. They were both b. in VA, either Rockingham or Culpepper county.
Daughter Lucinda (b. VA) m. Benjamin CARPENTER (b. PA) in 1826 in Darke Co.
Lucinda later m. Moses McKenny (1845).
Thanks,

I'm sorry to use the list for this but....Donna Roberts please respond.
I have lost your e-mail address and I need to talk with you about the
Barry Co. MO Clements/Clemens.

Hello,
Just recently joined the list and decided to try a posting in the hopes
of finding some ancestors. My Clemmons\Clemmens are as follows:
(BTW these spellings come from marriage records and census records)
William Haden C. CONNER b. abt 1862 Floyd Co., VA s/o Daniel R. Conner
and Lydia Poff
m. Apr. 5, 1888 Mercer Co., WV Arrista "Rissie" CLEMMONS b. abt. 1868
d/o James H. CLEMMONS\CLEMMENS and Elizabeth "Betsy" (lnu)
James H. CLEMMONS b. abt 1847 (from 1870 Mercer Co. census) s/o John
R. CLEMMONS and Mary S. (lnu). The census also indicated that James H.
was born in VA but this could just refer to the fact that Mercer Co. at that
time
was a part of VA since WV did not become a state til 1863. There is a John
Clemmons in the 1870 Mercer Co. census that could be the father of James but
have not been able to prove the connection.
The spelling of Clemmons could be any variation of the name since I can go
back
no further than possibly John R.
Any help would be most appreciated.

I'm a CLEMENT. I'm tying to find out the parentage and siblings of my
grandfather, Charles James CLEMENT. All I know for certain is that he was
born on 2/1/1869 in Suncook, NH and died on 10/30/1926 in Orchards, WA. He
married Anna Marie Specht in 1902 in Duluth, Minn. In his obituary, it said
he was survived by a brother, Ellie D. Clement of Nethuen (probably
Methuen), Mass and two sisters living in Canada.
I know he and Anna had two sons, Charles Detlow CLEMENT and my father,
Raymond Wellington CLEMENT. I have a complete record of their progeny and
families.
My older cousin, Jack Martin CLEMENT, (either through first hand knowledge
or from his father) tells me that Charles James CLEMENT descended from
French Canadian, Catholic parents.
Finally, I have Anna Marie CLEMENT's bible and find that Charles James
CLEMENT's wife was born on 11/19/186 and died on 5/20/1927. In her death
record she is called "Mrs. Charles CLEMENT - leading me to the fact that
Charles James CLEMENT's father's name was Charles. The bible also notes the
birth of E. (probably Ellie) D. CLEMENT as 3/15/1888, lists the date of
birth of a Lillian CLEMENT as 9/5/1890, and Evelyn CLEMENT as 10/21/1913.
There may have been unlisted siblings born between 1869 and 1888 and between
1890 and 1913 not listed.
My presumption is that E. D. is the brother who resided in Mass. And that
Lillian and Evelyn were the two sisters who resided in Canada in 1926 when
Charles James CLEMENT died.
Any information relating to Charles James CLEMENT's family and/or ancestors
will be sincerely appreciated.
Regards an good rooting,

This is a text file of documentation I have on John & Isabella Clement,
parents of Simon. John d. 1749 Hanover co. VA
Granville co. NC
It is my understanding that Simon's older children by Susannah contested
his will in which he left his real and personal property to his younger
children by Mary Pridham Wright. Simon's father John's will was read into
evidence in this suit. (Anyone have documentation on this suit?) I have
both a typewritten and handwritten photocopy of John's will as certified by
William Pollard, clerk of the court, Hanover co. VA, 29 April 1801, copies
of which are in the custody of the Superior Court, Granville co. NC.
Abstract of John's will. 12 Nov 1748, John Clement, yeoman, St. Paul's
Parish, Hanover co (VA). Bequests to wife Isabell Clement the plantation
whereon I now live with 200 A. adjoining to the sd. plantation during her
natural life and after her decease to my son Simon Clement. To Mary Clement
wife of John Clement dec'd, one shilling sterling. To Elizabeth Clement
wife of Stephen Clement dec'd, one shilling sterling. To my son William one
shilling sterling. To my son Simon two hundred A. whereon he now lives. To
wife Isabell one young negro named Hagar with her increase and the
remainder of my estate, sole executrix of lw&t. Estate may not be brought
an appraisement. Signed and sealed John Clement. Wit: Blackmore Hughes,
Francis Terry, George Austin At Hanover co. court, 1 June 1749, lw&t of
John Clement dec'd. exhibited by Isabell and by oath of Hughes and Terry.
Teste: Henry Robinson, Clk William Pollard, clerk of the said court,
certified transcript, 29 April 1801 in possession of the clerk of superior
court, Granville co. NC
Theories for John's parentage
The late Bob Tice, Memphis TN, believed John was the son of John who died
in Surry co. VA in 1710; who was, in turn, son of John whose inventory was
recorded in Surry in 1701. Further, this John (1701) was probably the son
of Jeremiah and Edey Clement who was born in England in 1621 and brought
back as a headright in 1635 by Jeremiah.
Charles P. Jester, 102146.1650(a)compuserve.com, believes the best
candidates for John's parents are John Clement and Elizabeth whose son John
was baptized 8 Jan. 1687/8 in Gloucester, VA. He would be a contemporary of
Benjamin, son of Benjamin and Grizzel who was baptized in Gloucester, 28
July 1687. He believes the senior John and Benjamin to be brothers based on
similarity of naming patterns and migration route.
Migration pattern
Migration routes up the York River would place these two Clement families
in the counties of York, Gloucester, New Kent, and Hanover, VA. This is,
indeed, where we find both families. The migration pattern continued
through Amelia co. VA and Granville co. NC.
Based on my study of social and cultural history of 18th century Virginia
and the British Isles, I propose that the family of John/Isabell Clement
are either Lowland Scots (probably) or border English. This area was
forever in turmoil, politically and militarily. The Presbyterian religion
was widely practiced in the borderlands, on both sides. The period of
possible immigration to Virginia, late 17th century, coincided with the
Cromwell Commonwealth, Restoration of the Stuarts and the Glorious
Revolution, which installed the Protestant Mary and her husband, William,
on the throne of Great Britain.
During these years and into the early 18th century, the population of
Virginia grew dramatically. At the same time, soil depletion and plantation
expansion drove the yeomen further into the piedmont. These influences are
reflected in the migration patterns of John/Isabell Clement and their
children.
Other data
Cathy Farabow Horne, Wilson, NC, filed the following information in the
Thornton Public Library, Oxford, NC. John Clement, wife Isabell, (her
second marriage to Anthony Haden, Granville co.) She offers as proof an
1801 deposition. John died 1748 in Hanover Co. VA. St. Paul's parish.

Hello all,
We are researching Clements in England. The scant info is regarding Vernon

The family have some sort of Naval Connecton (Vernon b in Portsea).
The latter generations have come from Kent.

Hi,
I would like to see members giving more information regarding the Countyr
of research please. I find there are few of us looking in UK, and it is
frustrating to search through an ever increasing amount of mail (good news)
only to find they are all American (bad news). I'm sure we have some
American "cousins" out there somewhere, but we're not going to find them
without some more links this side of the pond first.
So PLEASE could we make more of location in our messages.
Thanks,
