Researching the Clemmons family from Virginia and Kentucky & Tennessee.
Charles Augustin Clemmons born 15 December 1816 in White Co. Tennessee.
Has one older brother John Wesley Clemmons (Clemons) born l0 November
1812 in southern Kentucky; and one older sister named Adaline H.
Clemmons (Clemons) born 8 April 1815 southern Kentucky. Census records
indicate that their father was born in Virginia and their mother in
Kentucky. Am trying to determine who their parents were. John Wesley
Clemons married Marilda TURNER in Boone Co. Missouri and Adaline H.
Clemons married Clifton B. Hensley in Boone Co. Missouri. Both Adaline
and John lived all their adult lives in Missouri. Charles Augustin
married in Boone Co. Missouri to Mary Jane HENSLEY about 1840. In 1849
they headed over the Oregon Trail where Mary Jane died giving birth to
their third child. Charles went on the Oregon territory and remarried
Rebecca Griffith. They moved on up into Washington state where both
died. Charles and Mary Jane had three children: Clifton Cleman born
1 Jan. 1845 in Boone Co. Missouri. Mary Cleman born 1847 Boone Co. MO.
and Jane Cleman born 1849 along the Oregon Trail. I have all data on
Clifton Cleman (spelling changed by him) only as he is my direct great
great grandfather (my maiden name is CLEMAN). Denise Dunn
Hello,
I am searching for info on Christian Clemons/Clements (d. 1783) of Augusta
Co, VA. His wife was Catherine Vogt, dau. of John Paul and Maria Katrine
Vogt. I am interested in finding Christian's parents and identifying the
husbands of his daughters. In some family records, his daughter Mary
Catherine is listed as being married to Nicholas Trout who died in 1752
Augusta Co. Yet when looking at Christian's will, it lists George Trout as
an in-law. George and Nicholas Trout were brothers. Did Mary Catherine
marry Nicholas first and then George or was Nicholas married to some else
altogether???
Any info would be appreciated.
Thanks,
Mary
Hi, Mary,
I believe your Christian CLEMENTS is mine. I show him as the father of
my Eve Clements. She was born May 1, 1749 and died Oct 7, 1791 at Blacksburg,
VA.
I show Christian's wife as Catherine Faught. Faught and Vogt were
interchangeable in the early records, as I have another Faught/Vogt in
Pennsylvania on another line.
My Eve Clements married Philip BARGER, who was born Sep 1, 1741 and died
Aug 3, 1803 in Blacksburg.
I would dearly love to get a copy of Christian's will. Do you have a
copy you could send by e-mail or snail mail? And does it mention my Eve?

Hi Folks,
I just finished testing AOL40 for the past 9 months so will pass along
this bit of information on Favorite Place restoration and SAVED Read/Sent e-
mails in your file cabinet.
Since all of us back up our hard disks completely frequently because we
know a crash is devastating to our genealogy, go to your backup. AOL creates
it's own folder, probably named AOL & there is a sub-directory named ORGANIZE.
In that folder are several files & one looks like your screen name (somewhat).
That file contains all your "File Cabinet"..... read, sent, download, AND
"Favorite Places" information in a very unreadable format, viewable by AOL
only. Restore that file & your Favorite Place will also be restored. If you
have several AOL accounts as I do there will be one file for each account in
the ORGANIZE folder.
Many of you have elected to SAVE all READ & SENT e-mails (AOL Preferences
options) on your local hard drives and end up with tons of stuff on the hard
drive. Every Dec. I save the ORGANIZE folder to a floppy and clear out the
ORGANIZE folder. AOL sees the files are missing & regenerates a new one as
each account is logged into. I really just rename the file to "acctname".097
or 096 or which ever year & keep it in the ORGANIZE folder. That way I can
still use AOL's mail retrieval system on past years correspondance by just
renaming the old "saved E-mail file" back to the original account name AFTER
first saving the current Saved READ/SENT into a TEMP named file. Remember to
store the restored old e-mail file back to the .097 format & restore the TEMP
saved current e-mails back to the proper acct name file.
The reason I bring that up is since the Favorite Places is integrated
into ORGANIZE and you cannot save and clear ORGANIZE without losing the
Favorite Places. I suggested to AOL that they seperate Favorite Places & E-
Mail READ/SENT into two seperate files......This would eliminate the need for
reentry of Favorite Places. My way around this is to create a memo to myself
where I "copy & paste" all Favorite Place info & put it on a floppy or in My
Documents folder. After clearing out the ORGANIZE folder, I restore the memo
from My Documents & "Copy & Paste" the WEB sites back into the Favorite Place
area.
When you leave e-mail READ/SENT in that ORGANIZE file, it double & triples
the amount of time it takes AOL to come up to allow you to LOGON. My
RHEA/CLEMENTS account takes 10 seconds on a Pentium & I only have 5 months of
e-mails so far. The message is clear, delete old e-mails from your "SAVED"
READ/SENT folders in your filing cabinets, repack it, and AOL will load
faster....
Next week we can discuss why AOL wants to store 23 mb & growing, of junk in
your AOL\IDB\Main.idx file eating up your precious hard disk storage without
telling you that you can get rid of it. That 23 mb file has grown from 8mb in
Jan to 23 mb todate. I delete the contents periodically and let AOL regenerate
what it needs.

Have any of you Leicestershire Clement descendents been over there to look
around? My mother is going to England late next week and part of her trip
will be through Leicestershire, where our Clements came from (Robert born
about 1536, buried in Croft; John born about 1572 married in St Martin's;
Richard born about 1505 died in Croft, etc- all Leichestershire towns.) If
anyone has been there and seen something wonderful -like a Clement grave,
for instance- please let me know.
thank you,
Alison Clement

I have two books that were done in the 1920's and a couple of National
Geographics where this couple did some exquiste wild flower illustrations.
They seem to be husband and wife, and were residing in Mission Canyon,
Santa Barbara in 1927 and before that at the University of Minnesota in
1915 and Alpine Laboratory Manitou Colorado in 1920.
Have any of you seen these books they are exquisite! ARE ANY OF YOU RELATED
TO THESE PEOPLE?
Flower Famileis and Ancestory by Clements and Clements 1927
Flowers of Mountain and Plain by Edith S. Clements 1926

My fifth ggma was Elizabeth CLEMENT of whom I know all too little. Possibly
born in Maryland, she m. James SPRIGG, b. 1725, lived near Beallsville,
Montgomery Co., Maryland. They became the parents of Leven Sprigg. Elizabeth
died about 1808.
Looking for a Paulina Clemens. Family stories are that she was related to
Samuel Longhorne. I am looking for information on Samuel's Uncle Hannibal's
children and wondering if he had a Paulina.
She married Charles Dodge in Jefferson, Iowa in 1845. I would assume her DOB
around 1825.........Charles was born in 1821.
