Brenda,
I tried emailing you, but it was returned because they said the email address was invalid.
Brenda,
This is a short paper I did a few years ago for Betty Densmore, your cousin who lives in Caney, OK. You will find her listed near the bottom of the page. If you
would like to contact Betty personally let me know. I may have to go over to her house as the last time I talked to her on the phone she told me that she doesn't use the regular phone anymore, just uses a cell phone. Or, I can contact her sister, Maxine, who lives about 10 miles from me.

THE CLEMENT FAMILY
By Linda Kaye Lanier of Tishomingo, OK,
Granddaughter of Charlie Monroe Clement,
Youngest brother of Thomas Levi Clement
of Caney, Atoka Co. OK
Andrew William Clement, born in 1769 in Virginia, is the earliest proven ancestor of our Clement family. He was an early settler in Green Co. KY, arriving there several years before Kentucky statehood. He married Sarah Skaggs in 1793 in Green County. She was the daughter of Richard Skaggs, one of the Skaggs brothers who were founders of Skaggs Station in 1780 in Green Co. KY, the third settlement in the county. The Skaggs brothers were part of a group of pioneer explorers in Kentucky and Tennessee known as the "long-hunters". Many of their expeditions have been recorded in Kentucky history books. One of the first marked trails into the interior of Kentucky was called Skaggs Trace and was used by Daniel Boone when he established the Wilderness Road. The Skaggs brothers accompanied Daniel Boone on several expeditions.
Andrew and Sarah (Skaggs) Clement and five of their children moved from Kentucky to Missouri when it was first opened to settlement in the early 1800s. The territorial governor of Missouri offered a large tract of land to Daniel Boone and members of his family if they would bring settlers to theterritory. The Clements and many of the Skaggs family joined the Boone settlers in the movement west. They settled in Franklin Co. MO. As the number of settlers increased, Franklin Co. was later divided several times and the area where the Clements lived was called Crawford Co., then Gasconade Co., and Osage Co.
Andrew and Sarah's son, William Wesley Clement married Elizabeth Skaggs in 1829 in Crawford Co. MO. Elizabeth was the great-granddaughter of Henry Skaggs, brother of Richard Skaggs. Henry Skaggs was the most famous of the Skaggs Long-Hunters. His burial site near Hiseville, KY is located on the farm of Louie Nunn, former governor of Kentucky. It bears a special marker placed there by the Kentucky Historical Society as a tribute to his great contributions to the early exploration and settlement of Kentucky.
About 1840 the Clements moved west again, this time to Madison Co. Arkansas. Andrew and Sarah died there in the early 1840s. William Wesley Clement's wife, Elizabeth, died there in 1850 at the age of 36 and her husband and their eight children then moved to North Texas where they settled in Lamar County. They lived in the communities of Sylvan and Shady Grove. Two of the children of William Wesley Clement and Elizabeth Skaggs, Abraham and William, moved from Texas to Oklahoma about 1900.

Brenda,
You have some cousins, grandchildren of Della Clement, sister of James Riley Clement, who live in Caney, OK. I took my mother over once and we spent the day visiting with four of them, then went to the Cemetery where Della and her husband Levi Clement are buried. Levi Clement was the oldest brother of my grandfather. Della and Levi were 1st cousins.
