From the book cited as:Ancestry.com, Biographical and Historical Memoirs of Palaski, Jefferson, Lonoke, Faulkner, Grant, Saline, Perry, Grant and Hot Springs Counties, Arkansas, (Chicago: Goodspeed Publishing Co., 1889, page 790).
“John A. WEST is justly considered one among the leading citizens of Madison Township, Grant Co., Arkansas. He was born in Tippah Co., Miss. 4 Aug 1847, being the son of James and Eliza (PARTLOW) West, natives, respectively of NC and SC. The father was born 1 Feb 1795 and died 9 Aug 1872. His wife was born 29 Jan 1806 and died 24 Jul 1879. They were married in South Carolina moving thence to Tippah County, Mississippi, which they made their home until 1849, when they came to Arkansas, locating near the present location of their son John. Here they resided during the remainder of their lives. Mrs. West was a member of the Baptist Church for many years previous to her death. Mr. West followed farming all his life, and was very successful, never having to buy corn or meat as he raised both in abundance. He was well know as a farmer and respected by all his acquaintances. Out of a family of eleven children born to them, but four survive: William M. [a farmer of Jefferson!
Co.], Rebecca L. [wife of James Prescott, a farmer now deceased], Salena [wife of W. P. Clement, a farmer of Grant County] and John A. [who is the youngest.] Receiving his education in what is now Grant County, John A. West at the age of twenty-one years, began life for himself as a farmer. Though his means at the time were very limited, through his indomitable energy and industry, he now ownes 340 acres of land, with about 90 acres of medium fertility in cultivation. On 3 Sep 1868 he was married to Elizabeth Clement, daughter of James Clement of Grant County. She was born in Northeastern Georgia in the month of March, 1850. By this union there were nine children, all of whom are living: James F., Noah S., Benjamin J., William P. Greenberry, Joseph W., Ella J., John T. And Henry E. Mr. West is a member of the Cumberland Presbyterian Church, officiating as elder while his wife is a member of the Methodist Episcopal Church, South. He is a Free and Accepted Mason, now holding!
the office of Worshipful Master in Taylor Lodge number 206. He has al
so represented his lodge in the Most Worthy Grand Lodge of Arkansas. He is a friend of all religions and educational enterprises, and politically is a member of the Republican Party. In connection with farming, he has worked some as a carpenter, though not claiming to be an adept at that trade.”
I have little information, but am willing to share.

What country other than Canada did Treffle come from? Do you know his parents' names?
Hi Joan and welcome. Thanks for taking on this responsibility.
I've reached a stone wall on researching my Clement ancestors in the
Montreal area. Would appreciate any help of suggestions.
Jean Baptiste Clement, son of Gabriel and Suzanne Pilon, b Jan 9, 1815
married Anastasie Brisebois at Ste Genevieve de Pierrefonds Sep 29, 1834.
They had several children, some probably born in Canada and some possibly in
Illinois, since the family is believed to have moved to Chicago around 1847
and on down into Jackson County, Illinois around 1859. The only birth I
have found recorded in parish records in the Montreal area is Elinoire
Albina Clement, b Sep 28, 1835 at Ste Genevieve. Most of the Clement family
were members of St. Joachim de la Pointe Claire, which is close to Ste
Genevieve, but I have found no record of other children of this family born
there. One known son was Jean Baptiste Clement, my greatgrandfather, b Feb
14, 1839, but I have found no record in Canadian parish records of his birth
or of any other siblings. The birth information I have comes from his
obituary in Illinois. Illinois records indicate there were at least two
additional daughters. I have found the family of Gabriel Clement in the 1825
Montreal census in Ste Genevieve, but records of the 1842 census for these
parishes are missing in the Salt Lake microfilms. The family was in Illinois
before the 1851 census in Montreal. No land assignments have been found in
the Montreal area, either. I have so far found no birth information in
adjacent parishes, but have not explored all of them. The obituary of one
daughter says she was born in Three Rivers, Canada. I have searched the
parish records for the Trois Rivieres parish without success, but there are
other parishes in the Trois Rivieres governmental area that I have not
searched. So---where do I go from here? I also have found no record of the
family in the Chicago area, where they reportedly lived from around 1847
until moving to Jackson County, Illinois around 1859. I do have them in
Jackson County in the 1870 Federal Census. My understanding is that Jean
Baptiste and possibly a brother were involved with construction of a
catholic church in Chicago for at least part of the period 1847-1858. I have
so far found no record of their membership in churches in that area at that
time. The brother is believed to have been Prosper Clement, born October
17, 1831 in Montreal. I have found no further information on him, so don't
know for sure if he accompanied the family to Chicago. He did not go to
Jackson County as far as I can tell.
Any suggestions or guidance would be appreciated.

******I thought this may be of interest to SOMEONE..

The boundaries were surveyed at various times from as early as 1895 for the
southern boundary to 1910 for the north and west boundary. The eastern
boundary was never surveyed.
The township is named for Sheldon B. Clement, Chief Engineer of the
Timiskaming and Northern Ontario Railway. He was born in 1899 and died 1946.

Desperately seeking the parents of Willis B. H. Clements--his father was born
in VA and his mother was born in SC.
Willis "Bill" Clements/Clemmons lived in Bedford Co, TN in 1840, in Davidson
Co, TN (Nashville) by 1850 and until he died in 1891. My best guess for his
parents is Jane Pullen who married John Clemments in 1808 in Wilson Co, TN. I
believe W. B. H. Clements is a brother of George W. Clements who also lived in
Nashville and was married first to Lavenia Wright in Lincoln Co, TN and
second to America Phillips in Nashville.
Brickwall - Georg Clement married Elisabeth Kirchgassner (both from
Prussia). Georg may have been a tailor who sewed uniforms for Bismark and the German
army. After arriving in the US (?) they had a son John A., born in NYC,
Sept 5, 1847. I need to locate Georg in Germany and get birth dates, etc.
Also wonder if there were any more children, other than John A.
