NEWS FLASH. -- 1852 NEW YEAR RESOLUTIONS
TO SOLVE GENEALOGICAL MYSTERIES.
It is New Year's Eve 1852 and Henry HYDENWELL sits at his desk by
candlelight. He dips his quill pen in ink and begins to writes his New
Year's resolutions.
1. No man is truly well-educated unless he learns to spell his name at
least three different ways within the same document. I resolve to give
the appearance of being extremely well-educated in the coming year.
2. I resolve to see to it that all of my children will have the same
names that my ancestors have used for six generations in a row.
3. My age is no one's business but my own. I hereby resolve to never
list the same age or birth year twice on any document.
4. I resolve to have each of my children baptized in a different
church -- either in a different faith or in a different parish. Every
third child will not be baptized at all or will be baptized by an
itinerant minister who keeps no records.
5. I resolve to move to a new town, new county, or new state at least
once every 10 years -- just before those pesky enumerators come around
asking silly questions.
6. I will make every attempt to reside in counties and towns where no
vital records are maintained or where the courthouse burns down every
few years.
7. I resolve to join an obscure religious cult that does not believe in
record keeping or in participating in military service.
8. When the tax collector comes to my door, I'll loan him my pen, which
has been dipped in rapidly fading blue ink.
9. I resolve that if my beloved wife Mary should die, I will marry
another Mary.
10. I resolve not to make a will. Who needs to spend money on a lawyer

I have never been there but here is the information I have. Directions to the
Cemetery: Rt 64 into Mocksville, turn onto 601 at Main St. intersection, go
over the overhead bridge at Southern R.R. take first left. Watch for
Crestwood farm factory on left, cemetery is located just past that on left up
dirt road under trees. A nice stone fence surrounds it.

Are you familiar with Tullie Fuller Clement? He was my greatgrandfather, and lived in Oklahoma. He was born in 1893 and died in Tulare, CA in February 1983. His name means "Flowing River" or something to that effect.
He married my greatgrandmother Carrie Boren (b. 1904) in Sulphur, Oklahoma around 1923. It was Chickasaw Nation territory (until 1907), but by the late 1880s it was 60% white. The Chickasaw and Cherokees were enemies, but they did unite against the US at one point.
It is said that he was Cherokee, but I doubt that he was a full blood. According to my grandmother, he wouldn't "admit he was Indian" and refused to accept the money alloted to natives from the government. He's hard to track since OK didn't keep birth records until after statehood in 1907.

Recently I saw on this website a mention of a Clement Cemetery in Mocksville, NC. Could someone please send me the location of that cemetery? Thanks. Wanda Clement Isaacs

My files show Mary Clement was the daughter of Henry Clement and Mary Elizabeth Winkler. She was born May 13, 1799 in North Carolina and died October 29, 1853 in Mocksville, Davie County, North Carolina.
She is buried in the third row at the Clement Cemetery in Mocksville, North Carolina. Her Infant son is buried by her side.
