Are you still looking for this information? I have Ste. Marie relatives who lived outside of Terrebonne (and still do) and I do remember a Mae - whether she was my uncle Don's mother or sister escapes me.

Great! Henry's parents are James, b. 1778, Saratoga County, NY and Anne Clement, b. 1788, Clinton County (now in NY, but was then in Vermont.) You can find them in the 1850 Federal Census, Theresa, Jefferson County, NY Census. They are next door to their son, my grgrandfather, Hiram Clement, wife and 2 sons. Living with James is another son, Ira Clement. In 1855 Jefferson County census, Ira is married, and James and Anne live with him. The census states James is father, Anne is mother to Ira. Anne died 1856. In 1860, Brownville census, James lives with Ira, etc.. James died in 1867. Both parents are buried Chaufty Corners Cemetery, near Theresa. Pat should have all of this, as I have shared with her everything I have found on our Clement line.

I found one explanation for the various forms of Clement in, "Origins of Clements-Spalding and allied families of Maryland and Kentucky", Louisville:Standard Press, 1928. "....was derived from the Latin Clemens and is found wherever Roman civilizatrion extended.." "Clemens is pure Latin, Clement is pure French, the form Clements only is pure English...." "Clemmons, Clemmens, Clemants and like variations are aberrant forms arising from negligent following of various local mispronunciations."

Well, that leaves me out at this point. All of my husband's Henry ancestors seem to be in the Arkansas and Tennessee areas. I am also struggling. There are so many variations of the name and I am, of course, not sure if or when it ever changed. I was told it was Clement at one pont but, no one knows when the change occured. Thanks for responding.

At least we have been able to discount the possibility that the Clements that came from New York and the Clement's that came from Ontario, Canada are somehow tied together.
Just for your information,
My Samuel Clement was born around 1831 in New York, and immigrated to Michigan sometime between 1876 and 1880.

I am also looking for a Samuel Clement of Michigan who was born in New York. I am wondering if this is the same individual who you are looking for. I noticed the date of your post and realize that it has been almost 3 years yet I am hoping that you will still receive this message.
I am interested and wondering if there is a date on it anywhere?

I have a wonderful carte-de-visite photograph, taken in about 1885+or-, which I would like to get back in the hands of family members. In the photo, Ida looks to be about age 18-20, and she is very pretty. On the back of the photo is "Ida M. Clement, Great Falls, N.H.", which is in Strafford Co.
The 1880 cnesus for Rollinsford, Strafford Co., NH shows an Ida F. Clement, age 10, daugther of William and Almira. Even though the middle initials are different, I still expect that this daughter of William and Almira is the girl in the photograph.
If you are related to the Clement family of Strafford Co., NH, please email me at margerice(a)prodigy.net.
my clements go to clough;s and goss;s if you need more let me know and i
will refine it for you
