Tracy, my father's maternal grandmother was Letitia Clement of Black Bayou in Terrebonne Parish, Louisiana - near Houma. I would like to be in correspondence with you but do not have your e-mail. If you are interested, reply. Have you tried Hebert's books on Southwestern Louisiana Records? Very good source. Shirley Stedman

I am searching for any information about George Angelo(Englo) Clement. He said he was born in Gayville, SD in 1869 but we have three different birth years the other two being 1871 and 1879. He also claimed to have run away from home as a very young boy and said he had two sisters, Margareth and Augusta. He also claimed that his family came to the U.S. from Denmark. His father's name may have been Frank Clement, but I don't know this with any certainty. Any help you can give me would be greatly appreciated as I have a big brick wall in front of me that I can't seem to tear down.

Here is some info from a book by John Clement re first settlers of Newton Twp., Gloucester Co., West Jersey.
Gregory Clement, London merchant and member of parliment, was one of the regicides involved with the death sentence of King Charles I. Gregory subsequently was executed himself and his property confiscated.
A son James came to Long Island. He was a Quaker. Three of his sons, Jacob, John and Thomas and two daughters, Mercy and Sarah, moved on to West Jersey.
Children of Jacob and Ann Clement:
Samuel, married Rebecca Collins.
Thomas, married Mary Tily.
Jacob, married Elizabeth Tily, and the book indicates that all (or most) Clements in the area descended from Jacob.
My ancestor was Mercy Clement, who married Joseph Bate.
Hope this gives you some clues.
Lou
