Rootsweb has websites to post any original material you have about the
Clemmons/Clements line (not from books, not copyrighted material).
I just went to
http://cgi.rootsweb.com/~genbbs/genbbs.cgi/surnames/c/l/CLEMENT/obituaries
and posted an "obituary" for Willis Clement who died in the TN State
Penitentiary in 1833. If you do not already know about the TN Pen records, I
promise it will be worth your while to read this. The warden must have been
a genealogist--or else he wanted to know everything about the inmates, so if
they escaped he could find them.
If everyone would post all the original documents they have, a lot of folks
could make use of them.
Thanks,
Carolyn Smotherman
I am working on William Clements who was born between 1827-1835. The
Obituary that I have puts his birthdate at around 1827, but the Census says
abt. 1828 to about 1832 the only thing that is sure is that he died on
February 18, 1898, and is buried in Marlow Cemetery, in Schuyler County,
IL(example 1). Another fact is that he married Julia Ann Angell in Champaign
County, IL, on March 20th, 1853(example 2). I have also give the 1860,1870
and 1880 Census to show where He lived before his death.(example 3)
So, because of these facts...I began to wonder if "My William" was the son
of James Clemens who was from Pendleton County, KY, but had settled in
Champaign County, IL. I am including the 1860 Census for Champaign County,
IL. The Age of the William in the Census kind of matches.(example 4)
Now, my William Clemens after marry Julia Ann "Angell" did not stay long in
Champaign, IL, because two of their Children were born in Vermillion County,
IL where Julia's family lived. I will attach the boys Obituaries from the
Rushville Times.(example 5) According to those Obituaries William and Julia
came to Schuyler County, in 1857
The names of all their children were: Henry W., William Harvey, Cordilla F.,
John James, and George Riley, who was my Great Grandfahter.
...I have also seen a Benjamin Clemons married to a Delilia Cordilla Race,
and wondered if William might be connected with these two. I saw Cordilla
all by herself in the 1850 Census for Pendleton County, KY. (exmaple 6) Her
and Benjamin must have come to Illinois for a short period of time, because
two of her kids were born in IL according to the Census taker...But who
knows. It would be worth do some research on that one. My two guesses
would be Champaign or Vermillion County, IL. I wonder if they could have had
a Benjamin Jr. because in Schuyler County, IL 1860 Census there is 25 year
old Benjamin living in the family of "Moses Race" (Example 7)Who was Moses
Race married too? What is the relationship between Benjamin Clemons 25, and
Moses Race 25?
Anyone who has connections with these names...I would love to talk
with...please write to me at grossd(a)gte.net
