Samuel Smith b.1772 Albany NY, married Phoebe Clement (b.1769) m. 1792 Troy NY. Samuel
had a bible from which I have some info. The info was copied from the Samuel Smith bible by
Nellie Smith Runkle d/o william Smith s/o Salmeron Smith s/o Samuel& Phoebe. Nellie's brother
was William Avery Smith, an Iowa Supreme Court judge in 1951.
Does anyone know where that bible is? Secondarily, does anyone have any info on Phoebe
Clement's parents? Phoebe's brother, Darius Clement b.1771, is my direct ancestor.

Kayleen, My great-grandmother was Lavinia Clement. She was from Black Bayou, Terrebonne Parish, LA. Her parents were Simeon Clement b. ca 1811 and Marie Olivier b. ca 1823. Both the Clement and Olivier families had been in the Terrebonne Parish area since the 1790s, probably having been with the Acadians that migrated from the Acadian area of Canada. The Olivier Name appears in the Acadian area in 1686-1710. Lavinia m. John Hanagriff 2 Dec. 1867 at the Houma Court House and had a church wedding 7 Feb 1870. I got this information from Hebert's books on South Louisiana REcords and Southwest Louisiana Records. He, now deceased, did a great job of coping court records and church of the southern parishes of Louisiana. Most big libraries have these volumes. I know the Clayton Library in Houston and the Texas State Library in Austin has copies. They have been a great help to me finding my Louisiana branch. Also, you might try the TERREBONNE GENEALOGY SOCIETY, P. O. BOX !
295, STATION 2, HOUMA, LOUISIANA 70360. Mr. Jess Bergeron, Jr., 130 Everette Drive, Houma, LA 70364 of this society was very helpful to me in my search. Good hunting! Shirley
