Someone in the group made the mention that their line led to John Clement
of Hanover Co. VA. learned from DNA search. In case anyone would like to see
if we are autosomal matches, I am registered on 23andme, Family Tree DNA
and Ancestry.com my member name is either Tom or Thomas Almquist. I would be
interested in any others find me in their matches. Please let me know if
you to. To restate a little of my descent, I leave the Clement direct line
with Mary A C Clement daughter of Adam Clement of Campbell County VA. She
married Geo W Jennings. Thanks.

I have been following this thread and want to know which company is working on X chromosome test. What I have understood before is that most genealogical DNA is of the "junk" DNA and that genes that have a lot of potential medical information aren't used in genealogical research. That was why 23 and me had to stop reporting the medical genetic associations although now they will be able to report 10 genes associated with medical conditions.
Many medical conditions are carried on the X and I think that is why it is so slow to be developed as the Y has more junk. Sorry, guys, nothing personal. Can't prove that but certainly suspect.

Also the X Chromosome Test as they perfect it might become a big help to us ladies who trying to connect with our fore fathers. I don't understand enough how it works, but it sounds very interesting and possibly promising. Ged-Match does some work with it. But many of the DNA test that we take are not strong enough to pick up the X Chromosome. Again, I may not be talking about this right, because it's just something I've been noticing and find it very interesting. If someone out there can explain how the X Chromosome DNA test works, in Easy terms, because I am not a scientist. :) I would really appreciate it. But for us ladies, the YDNA test is not enough. We too want to know that we are on the right track through our DNA. And many of us ladies do not have a father, who is alive and even when they were alive did not want to do the test for reasons of their own. So, ther!
e has got to be a DNA/Chromosome or something that connects both male and female of all the Direct lines we carry in our bodies. It's great how far we have come with YDNA Male Direct and MTDNA Women Direct and Autosomal DNA, but I hoping that it will get better. Women must have something inside them that they carry from their forefathers that could be used to discover their heritage through DNA other than just the Autosomal DNA. It just doesn't go back far enough and not enough people are doing this test along with the YDNA Test. It's all still too expensive to do multiple test too. I can't afford all these different test and to pay for my husband, kids and me along with other cousins, Aunts and Uncles. So, there we are, maybe there will not be a solution in my time. I don't know if my kids will even be interested in it to continue this discovery of our family after I am gone. So, it may be left a mystery this side of earth.

That is frustrating and really limiting when it comes to matching others. My family line is through Benjamin by his son Adam Clement and also his son George Clement since their children married (first cousins). I suppose that was not uncommon then. As is mentioned to Tom, it would be nice if we could match someone in Great Britain and take our history farther.

I believe you are talking about Benjamin Sanford Clements, possible son of John Clement, who was in Edgar County, IL in the year 1830. I believe Benjamin Sanford was still with his father in Edgar County in 1830 Federal State Census, Benjamin Sanford Clement would have only been about 20 years old. John Clement was the brother of My Benjamin Clements, III who married Lucy Bailey. Both were sons of Benjamin Clement, Jr. II, who married Mary Baker. It is this Benjamin, III who married Lucy Baily that died in 1836 in Harrison County, Kentucky and NO he DID NOT go to Clark County, IL. BUT his son, Benjamin Clements, IV who married Cordelia Race did. My Benjamin Clement, IV is represented I believe in the 1830 Federal State Census for Clark County, IL and it's ages underneath Benjamin Clements and others that are related to him
1830 Census Clark Co., IL. p.114/(no.4)/58 Benjamin Clements 2nd line fr/bottom; 2boys0-5;1boy20-30; 1girl 20-30, Brother James was next door on same page at the Bottom of page and Benjamin's Brother-in-law Michael Race was on p.59/119 no.4; Line 1,
Benjamin Sanford Clements, son of John Clements would not have been old enough yet to have two boys under 5, unless he got married when he was 16 years old. It's possible, BUT I don't believe it and I don't believe he was born before 1810, so he would have been 20 years or younger.
Here is the Edgar County 1830 Census with John Clements. Which I believe represents where Benjamin Sanford Clements was at the time of the 1830 Census.
1830 Federal Census Edgar Co., IL; p. 62/32; 10 lines fr/top; John Clemens 1boy 5-10;1boy15-20 (Benjamin Sanford Clements?); 1boy20-30;1boy40-50; 1girl 0-5; 3girl10-15;1girl 15-20; 1girl 30-40, Francis Clement, John's Nephew was also in this Census on p.56/29 line 5
Plus, I have a document (a Marriage license for a Cynthia (Clements) a Clayton) Who states that she was born in Clark County, IL and her parents were Benjamin Clements and Cordelia Race, If you look closely at the 1830 Federal Census for Clark County, IL, there was also a Michael Race who was not living fairly closely to Benjamin Clement. Michael Race is the brother to Cordelia Race. And They stayed in Similar Circles together. It would see that my Benjamin Clement who married Cordelia race returned to Pendleton Co., Kentucky, because he listed in the estate papers of his father Benjamin Clement, 1836. I do have those papers. Also, I know from the Civil war Mother's pension file for Cordelia Race Clement, wife of Benjamin Clement, died in 1849 or fairly close to that. I have copies of their son's pension file, Ebenezer Clements in Schuyler Co., IL. He died during the war, and Cordelia his mother was needing relief. And she was living in Schuyler County, IL as son William my 3rd Great Grandfather along with others, like her brother Michael Race and her daughter Cythinia was next door in Brown County. The only child of Benjamin Clement that married Cordelia Race that stayed in Kentucky was Jonathan Clement and on his death Certificate it is stated that he was born in Schuyler County, IL . Most likely that is a mistake and it was actually Clark County, IL.
Anyway, if you would like to have an invite to my family tree on Ancestry.com. I would be more than welcome to invites. I know nothing is perfect. But you will get a much better understand to my lineage, if you go and visit my family tree. My tree is private, so you much have an invite before anyone can look. I am still in process of putting up found documents.
Anyway, let me know what you want me to do
Oh, just so you aren't confused. Benjamin Clement, III who married Lucy Bailey (He died 1836, Pendleton Co., KY, was the son of Benjamin Clement, Jr. II who married Mary Baker (He died 1818 Harrison County, KY). And of Course Benjamin Clement who married Mary baker, who died in 1818 Harrison Co., KY was the son of Capt. Benjamin Clement, Sr. who was married to Suannah Hill, Pittsylvania, who died 1780 Pittsylvania.
And then the son of Benjamin Clement, III who married Lucy Bailey was Benjamin Clement, IV who married Cordelia Race, sister of Michael Race. They were parents to my William Clements who married Julia Angel in Champaigne Co., IL. Where Uncle James Clements lived. William Clements died in Schuyler County, in the year 1898. He was crippled for over 20 some years prior to death. In the 1860 Census Federal State Census William and Julia Clement have some of their nephews "Races" in their home.
Anyway, let me know if you want a visit to my tree. I will need the e-mail or ID that you use at Ancestry.com, when you are their.
Sincerely,
Cathi Gross

Hi Cathi:
One small correction. We are up to our armpits in Benjamin Clements! The Benjamin Clements in Clark County Illinois is not the Benjamin Clement in Pendleton County. The Benjamin Clement in Harrison County was Benjamin Clement, Jr. , son of Capt. Benjamin. Junior's wife when he moved into western Virginia was Mary,
The Benjamin in Pendleton was a son of Junior and Mary. He died in Pendleton County in 1836.
Junior remarried in 1786 and he raised a second family with his new bride, Sar(i)ah Bailey, Among the children were James and John. Both of these boys and their families left Kentucky after they settled their father's estate and were in Illinois by 1820. The Benjamin in Clark, Edgar and Crawford Counties, Il was born in 1810 in Harrison Co. KY the son of John.

I just wanted to Chime in and say Hello. . .I too being a women is also a Clement / Clements. My line has been proven through Kenneth Clements, my father's 2nd cousin. My father could not do the YDNA Test and his Cousin out kindness did the test for me through FTDNA back in I think 2004. His website and FTNDA is Private and I pretty much run it. BUT I do not have the permission to leave it open, so it makes it hard to make connection that way with other Clements. Anyway, we too belong to Group #12, John Clement of Hanover. I my-self have done the Autsomel test also through 23andme and have found that many of the Women that married into my line of Clements through Capt. Benjamin Clements and his son Benjamin who married Mary Baker are matching up like through Mary Etta Loring, Isadora Howell, Julia Angell and her mother Polly Ann Stephens, also I have made matches with Cordelia Race and her mother Mary Tomlin at 23andMe. I have run into Bakers and Hills, but it's hard to tell how. It's interesting the lines that have come up the most when it comes to the women who married in to my Clements line. Which has really helped to prove what documentation I have found, when it comes to my line of Clements from my father, Robert Leroy Clements to John Clement of Hanover Co., VA. I do have my Family tree on Ancestry.com, BUT it's private. If someone is interested in viewing my tree. I am more than happy to send an invite through Ancestry.com. I do not have an account with Ancestry.com, so if any of you want me to view your part of the family tree I will have to have an invite through Ancestry.com
This is my line:
Name: County/State: Spouse:
Me: Cathi Lou Clements, Santa Monica, CA, Torrance, CA, Ventura, CA
Father: Robert Leroy Clements, Cass Co., IL to Torrance, CA. to Yuma Arizona. Wife: Helen Sabo
Grandfather: Oscar Walton Clements, Schuyler Co., IL, wife: Mary Etta Loring
Great Grandfather: George Riley Clements, Schuyler Co., IL(Great Grandfather), wife: Isadora Howell
2nd Great Grandfather: William Clements Pendleton Co., Kentucky, Schuyler Co., IL, wife: Julia Angell
3rd Great Grandfather: Benjamin Clement Pendleton Co., Kentucky, Clark Co., Illinois, died in Pendlton Co., Kentucky, Wife: Cordelia Race
4th Great Grandfather: Benjamin Clement Pendleton Co., Kentucky, wife: Lucy Baily
5th Great Grandfather: Benjamin Clement, Pittsylvania & Montgomery, VA then to, Bourbin and Harrison Co., Kentucky, wife: Mary (Baker?) not found proof to surname "Baker"
6th Great Grandfather: Capt. Benjamin Clement Pittsylvania Co., VA, Wife: Susannah Hill (I have a different opinion of her parents are and I'm working on, DNA will be the winner)
7th Great Grandfather: William Clement, King William to Amelia Co., VA, Wife: Ann (Parker?) No proof to her last name being "Parker"
8th Great Grandfather: John Clement, Hanover Co., VA, wife: Elizabeth (Terry?) no proof to who her parents might be.
Question: I run my cousins page for the YDNA at FTDNA. But there is really no way on his page to add my family information. So, would it be better for to restart a different page with my autosomel DNA. I was hoping someway to be able to work both together. Does anyone have any ideas. I would still probably keep it private accept for connecting with YDNA and Autosomel DNA connections. I also would have to move the DNA results for 23 and me over to FTNDA does anyone now how to do that or would I have to take another test and FTNDA to do that.
Good to meet all of you, :)
Sincerely,
Cathi Gross
PS: I have been working on my family line of Clements since 1993. I have finally just about added most of the documentation for this line at Ancestry.com. Soo, if any one wants to look would be happy to send an invitation.

Hi Tom, I believe we have talked before. I am also descended from Benjamin and Adam Clement. My father and brother had their DNA tested and it came back to John of Hanover Co. So I am pretty sure we share some of the same genes. Don't you live very far away? I remember you traveled a long way to tour the Clement houses. Don't you just wish that some Clement in England would match our DNA and take us a bit farther back in our search? I keep hoping for that. Regards.

Hi Cathi, nice to meet you. My father and brother had DNA tests thorough 23 and me, but also won't make the information public.
Wanda
