Dear All,
I am concerned about the condition of Clement Hill and would
like to ask for recommendations on how the home could be saved. The
home is for sale. It is possible the house will collapse if someone
does not purchase the home from English Construction Co.
Also, the graveyard at "Mountain View" needs to be restored. I
volunteer to supervisor the restoration of the wall, remove the
volunteer trees from the middle and level the surface inside the walled
area. I would like to ask for contributions and recommendations from
the descendants.
Furthermore, I visited "Mountain View" over the weekend and
found that the family, Patricia and Brent Evans, have returned to North
Palm Beach, FL. The wife is suffering with cancer and their previous
home was Palm Beach. The Evans spent about 10 years restoring the
inside of "Mountain View". The home looks much better since they
restored the porch on the front not to mention the interior. The
neighbor, Minnie Hunt, age 88, reported the Evans will keep the home,
are extremely fond of the home and plan to visit several times during
the year. By the way, Minnie Hunt told me cute stories about Miss
Carrie Clement, the last Clement to live in "Mountain View".

Is the house on the Historic Register? For what amount do you think the Construction Company would sell the home? A 501(c)(3) charitable organization could be set up to puechase the house and restore it. House could be rented to some group for offices.
A Boy Scout troop may help clean up the cemetary. They sometime do this for a project. What about a local SAR or DAR or genealogy society to help?

Concerning the "Clement houses" I haven't been there my self but I can give
you or anyone else that would care to have it information on "Clement Hill"
I have pictures of the house taken sometime in 1990 and other's taken in
1936 for the WPA project including the WPA write up they included a
location. If you would like these I will send them off list in a zip file
called Clement Hill.

Thanks to all that wrote to me!
I got directions to all the houses, and yes I do intend to take some photos
and will notify the list when I return. I will be going the 10th of September.
I will be in the Franklin/Roanoke/Pittsylvania County area on the the 10th
through the 12th. Later that week I will be in the Buckingham/Albermarle area.
If anyone in that area wants to connect and maybe look at these areas
together, let me know.

Mr. Clement,
It might be advisable to check around the county before you knock on the
door at Clement Hill. My sister went by there several years ago and the owner
would not let her in.

I seem to recall that there were directions on Benjamin's List to some of the homes. You might try the different years. Hope you take some digital photos to share with others.
