Marilyn: Edward Franklin Haley in his book "Haley and Related Families" indicates Mary Keatts, wife of Hugh Clement, as the daughter of William and Mary Keatts, William being the son of Curtis and Tabitha Keatts. Haley's book was published in 1979 posthumously, by his wife Eva. It has been shown to be wrong on occasions, but most of his research is good, although not always well-documented. The two pages that would discuss William Keatt's family are blank on my copy but he does show the family relationship.
In addition to descending from Anne Clement and John Pigg, I descend from Martha Keatts and Robert Tucker, Martha being a daughter of Curtis and Tabitha Keatts.

Here's one Adam Clement that served in War of 1812. Don't know if he's the
son of Adam and Nancy Alexander Clement, though.
You can get service records from NARA in Wash.DC. I think they cost $38 now.

Compiled Military Service Records (CMSR) Each volunteer soldier has one
Compiled Military Service Record (CMSR) for each regiment in which he
served. The CMSR contains basic information about the soldier's military
career, and it is the first source the researcher should consult. The CMSR
is an envelope (a jacket) containing one or more cards. These cards
typically indicate that the soldier was present or absent during a certain
period of time. Other cards may indicate the date of enlistment and
discharge, amount of bounty paid him, and other information such as wounds
received during battle or hospitalization for injury or illness. The
soldier's place of birth may be indicated; if foreign born, only the country
of birth is stated. The CMSR may contain an internal jacket for so-called
"personal papers" of various kinds. These may include a copy of the
soldier's enlistment paper, papers relating to his capture and release as a
prisoner of war, or a statement that he had no personal property with him
when he died. Note, however, that the CMSR rarely indicates battles in which
a soldier fought; that information must be derived from other sources.
A CMSR is as complete as the surviving records of an individual soldier or
his unit. The War Department compiled the CMSRs from the original muster
rolls and other records some years after the war to permit more rapid and
efficient checking of military and medical records in connection with claims
for pensions and other veterans' benefits. The abstracts were so carefully
prepared that it is rarely necessary to consult the original muster rolls
and other records from which they were made. When the War Department created
CMSRs at the turn of the century, information from company muster rolls,
regimental returns, descriptive books, hospital rolls, and other records was
copied verbatim onto cards. A separate card was prepared each time an
individual name appeared on a document. These cards were all numbered on the
back, and these numbers were entered onto the outside jacket containing the
cards. The numbers on the jacket correspond with the numbers on the cards
within the jacket. These numbers were used by the War Department only for
control purposes while the CMSRs were being created; the numbers do not
refer to other records regarding a veteran nor are they useful for reference
purposes today.

Thanks fo all who replied about Jane Butterworth and John/Johnson Clement.
still seems to be no consensus of these folks and with the conflicts that have
been posted, I would say there has to be several folks with same names that are
confused. Since this is not my primary Butterworth or Clement line, I do not
have info. to refute or agree with any of the info. Hopefully, someone one day
will find a will and post it.
Billie Jones.
I found this site long ago and Marna invited me to join the list. Due to many
problems healthwise with myself and also my husband I have neglected to take
the time to give my lineage so that I can connect with Clement descendants.
It is as follows:
William Clement, Sr.
William Clement, Jr.
Edmund Walker Clement
John Clement
William Clement
Ibbie Helen Clement who married John Wesley Lowe
Lawson Clement Lowe
Alexander Wingo Lowe
Jeanne Lowe Tucker
Edmund moved from Amelia Co., VA to Spartanburg Co., SC in the late 1890s as
did his mother, Ann Walker Clement, after the death of William, Jr. I grew up
in Spartanburg Co., and now live in Charlotte, NC.
I would like to hear from anyone who is in the Edmund Clement line. I have
some info but lack a great deal.

Thnk you Diana for the info. Could you source this and provide any dates for
the bride and groom?
The Butterworth Family of Maryland and Virginia: a Genealogy and History of
the Butterworth Family for more than 300 years., (compiled and written by
Walter V. Ball, Westland Printing Co, Silver Springs, MD, Dec. 1960), p. 49.
states that Jane Butterworth (d/o Benjamin Butterworth b. 1736 m Elizabeth
Clement b. ca 1751) married John Clement.
p. 47 gives the estate settlement, recorded in Will Book 2, Campbell Co., p.
245-250 Walter Ball extracts info. which includes:
wording that names 1st wife Elizabeth and 2nd wife Sarah.Sarah Hoskins.
"To John Clement, husband of Jamie Butterworth, Lot # 9."
I have not seen the info., neither the original or the wills book, so there is
always room for error in transcriptions.
Do the dates work for this to be the same Jane, and her husband the same John
Clement. Both of the families used the same names generation after generation,
and therefore it is imperitive to have an idea of the dates. I don't have a
birthdate for Jane, but the siblings for whom I have dates are born ca 1768-
before 1780.
Per another reply to the list about one Johnson Clement, I have a transcribed
will of Johnson CLEMENT, son of Adam CLEMENT (1738 - 1813) and Agnes JOHNSON,
Moniteau County, Missouri, Will Book, Volume 1, pages 26-31, FHL microfilm
#946,783 [as posted to the list 1-/28/2000 by Marna L. Clemons
<mlclemons(a)eni.net>]. It lists his wife Elizabeth.
Sounds like we may have two Johnsons?
Please reply in a manner to keep this info. in the body of the text.
Billie Jones.
Help!! Can anyone tell me who the parents of Mary Keatts who married Hugh
Clement? Mary was born in 1780, married Hugh Clement in 1802, - Hugh
Clement is the a son of Capt. Isaac Clement, grandson of Capt. Benjamin
Clement. I would certainly appreciate all the help I can get with this
family. I really believe she is a granddaughter of Curtis Keatts, but I
have no proof. Can someone help?

Just wondering if anyone on the list knows anything about the Charles Lewis
who's will is on the Clement site. One of his daughters named in the will
is Mary Keatts. I have Mary Keatts as wife of Hugh Clement, son of Capt.
Isaac Clement. Is this the same Mary Keatts? I am thinking she perhaps was
Mary Lewis, married first a Keatts who may have died, then married Hugh
Clement. How can I find out of this is true? Would appreciate any help
here. I have look for Mary Keatts for so long - couldn't find parents -
this may be the answer.

Rita, I don't know, but I will help you look for Oliver's parents. If I
have time this evening, I'll see what I can find. I guess we must be
cousins!

It was just brought to my attention that I made an error in dates for Hugh
C. Bigbee, son of Mary Ann Bigbee and Oliver M. Bigbee. Dates for him are
as follows:
He was born 5 September 1835, not 1935.
He married Louisa S. Fatheree on 1 Feb 1861, not 1961
I have his death in September, 1924.
Thanks, Bill, for pointing out my error. One hundred years is a rather big
error!
