Dear Mr. Ward, Thank you for making clear the Butterworth-Clement connection. I was confused
and just deleted the Butterworths! My own connection is through Susanna who married William
Evans. It's fun to keep all the family interactions. Thanks again, Jeannette Fichter Frandsen

Dear Charles,
I was pleased to receive your message with the additional Clement
information. I'm pleased to get this correction and will update my notes.
My connection to the Clements is through the Butterworth line. My
grandmother was Elizabeth Butterworth Nall. There was quite a process
involved in locating information on her. She was the granddaughter of
Stephen Butterworth and and Rachel Clement, the daughter of Isaac Clement
Butterworth and Parky Pride Hix. Elizabeth Butterworth was the mother of
my father (Marcus Lafayette Nall).
I am currently searching for information on Isaac Clement Butterworth and
Parky Pride Hix Butterworth, particularly Parky's parents - Elizabeth
Beville Hix and Thomas Hix. If you have any information on that line,
would appreciate hearing from you.
Thanks again for your comments.

Maud Carter Clement and the author of SOUTHERN LINEAGES were incorrect in
stating that Elizabeth Clement, daughter of Captain Benjamin Clement and his
wife, Susannah Clement, married ISAAC BUTTERWORTH. Elizabeth Clement married
BENJAMIN BUTTERWORTH. Unfortunately, the Bible record which was discussed
in SOUTHERN LINEAGES is of limited use as the transcriber didn't
differentiate between personal comments and data extracted from the family
record. Unfortunately, the Bible is currently "lost." Hopefully it will
resurface.
Isaac Butterworth is mentioned in the will of Captain Benjamin Clement, of
Pittsylvania Co., VA. However, he is mentioned as a grandson of Captain
Benjamin Clement, being one of the children of his deceased daughter,
Elizabeth (Clement) Butterworth.
Benjamin Butterworth remarried following the death of his first wife,
Elizabeth (Clement) Butterworth. He had a number of children by his second
wife.
Stephen Butterworth, a son of Benjamin and Elizabeth (Clement) Butterworth,
married his first cousin, Rachel Clement, daughter of Captain Isaac Clement.
I descend from their daughter, Rachel Butterworth.
I will attempt to post deed records which prove that Elizabeth Clement
married Benjamin Butterworth in the future.

Joel Feagley Martin was born in 1808. He married the Elizabeth Clements I am
looking for. She married Joel in 1830 and would have to have been born also
around 1808. The other Elizabeths would have been to old. If my Elizabeth
was born to James Clements, then she is part of this line. If her father was
William, I am not sure if she is part of this line of Clements.
Nancy,
My name is Martha Nall Pryor. I am a descendant of Benjamin Clement through
his oldest son, Isaac Clement.
As is so often the case, there was more than one person with the name of
Elizabeth Clement:
1. According to SOUTHERN LINEAGES, Records of Thirteen Families, written by A.
Evans Wynn, published in 1940, page 104, Francis Clement, a planter of
Lunenburg, died 5 March 1754. His beneficiares included a wife named
Elizabeth, which would have been Elizabeth Clement. Her maiden name was not
given.
2. Benjamin Clement and Susanna Hill Clement had a daughter named Elizabeth.
According to my records, she was their 11th child. On page 111 of the above
book, SOUTHERN LINEAGES, she was listed as born 1751 (?). There is a notation
this information was taken from "A note in a Bible which says 'This Bible
belongs to Benjamin Clement' ." On this same page, it states that Elizabeth
Clement married Isaac Butterworth.
Elizabeth Clement's marriage to Isaac Butterworth is also noted in HISTORY OF
PITTSYLVANIA COUNTY, written by Maud Carter Clement, published 1929, page 145.
You will find that Isaac Butterworth is listed in Benjamin Clement's will.
Hope this information will be helpful to you.

I just received a packet from the Moultrie Co Historical Society. They have
an Elizabeth Clemens who married Joel Feagley Martin. However, in this
packet she is listed as a daughter of a William Clements of Urbana, Il. Now
I am really confused.

Dear Members:
My name is Nancy Ott-Pinckaers and I recently started a geneology search in
my family. My birthmother was Alberta Ann Stevens (6/5/1934-10/31/2000).
She was the daughter of Francis Stevens (9/7/1888-11/27/1958), whose mother
was Rebecca Elizabeth Martin (10/5/1849-9/3/1927. Rebecca's mother was
Elizabeth Clements (Atterberry?) Martin (1806(8)-1872) Elizabeth is the
person I believe fits into your pedigree. I think she was the daughter of
James (1789 Va - 1873) and either Mary Van Horn or Jennie Hays. I believe
she had a sister Mary (Polly) (b 5/3/1814) that married Elizabeth's husband's
uncle, Rezin Charles Martin (1789-1855). I believe Elizabeth was born in
KY. She died in Moultrie Co, IL but no death cert exists in county records.
The newspapers from that era burned in a library fire, so there was no obit.
She married Joel Feagley Martin in 1830 in Urbana, IL but no marriage cert
exists in county records. Supposedly her father James also lived in Urbana
or Champaign at the time of her marriage to Joel Martin. Does anyone in this
group know about Elizabeth Clements?
Thanks for your input.
Sincerely, NancyLOtt(a)aol.com
