Hello everyone. I am new to the Benjamin Clement list.
Here is my line:
Eleanor Sidney Rigney, b. 1844, d. 1905, did not marry Benjamin Turner
Clement, b. 1838, d. 1913.
James Hunter Rigney, b. Dec 13, 1878, d. July 30, 1945, married Beulah Grace
James, Jan 19, 1907, b. Dec 2, 1892, d. April 14, 1984.
Julia Louise Rigney, b. Sept 29, 1912, d. 1998, married Ralph Irvin Barrett
Nov 29, 1928, b. May 7, 1907, d. Jan 8, 1971
Barbara Carol Barrett married Donald Ray Herring
Pamela Regina Herring (this is me) married Philip Keith Mashburn
As many of you can tell, I need help on exact dates. I am just starting on
this line and some of my family info is flawed. For example, I have 3
different death dates for James Hunter Rigney. I have a lot of work to do!
I have some of the same letters that Marna has that are dated 1949 and 1950
from F. B. Clement to Mrs. S.C. Powell (Estelle Rigney) about the parentage
of the Rigney children.
I also have a copy of a letter from Madalene Vaden Fitzgerald to Mr. James R.
Huntsman, Stillwater, Minn. She is doing some family research for him. She
had notes that Maude Carter Clement, Historian, had given her about the
Clements and the feud in 1860 that killed 3 of Dr. George Clement's sons.
This letter is dated Sept 25, 1978.
Does anyone know who James R. Huntsman is?
Looking forward to "talking" with all of you.
Pam

in VA, attained the rank of Captain during the Revolutionary War and once
served under the famous General Francis Marion who was called "the Swamp
Fox" and also in the Snow campaign. Captain Gabriel (his descendants still
in Georgia have always referred to him that way) filed for a pension and
extensive correspondence in his effort is on file at the S.C. Archives. He
finally was awarded $100 a year. Later, his widow, Mary Watts Clements,
filed for and received a widow's pension. REF: Telfair Co. (GA) History

Twain so some of them changed the spelling of their name from Clements to

before Mark Twain became famous.

Hello You'll,
Marna invited me to the list, so here I am. I live in Mobile, Alabama.
My Lineage is Wilson>Davis>Robinson>Evans.
My main research for the last six months has be searching for some undiscovered link to the identity of my 3rd Great-Grandfather John WIlson. (With no luck).
I recently branched out into an ever widening circle, filling in blanks, in hopes of discovering the one link. That link may be the Evans-Clement link. My history is extremely scarce in the lines of Clement and Evans, but I do have an 18,000 individual date base. More than 1800surnames. I just added another 1600 + in the sunames of Nesmith and Brockington. I dicovered I was kin to Cousin Jimmy in Plains, Georgia, who knows I may find I am kin to Samuel Clement at this site.
Thanks for the invite. My homepage and my sisters is below. Enjoy! Feel free to ask of anything. I am Southern born and believe in Southern Hospitality . You'll come on in !

I visited the cemetery at Mountain View a few weeks ago. The only engraved stone was for Dr. George Washington Clement and his second wife Sarah Turner Cook (one large stone for the two of them). There is a modern funeral home marker just outside the wall for Carrie Beth Clement - 1952. There are a number of other graves, some marked by field stones but I didn't see any other engraved stones. Some may be evident if visited in winter.
I have been told by someone very familiar with Turkey Cock there is no cemetery on the place.
There are a number of graves at Oakdale (Vineland) and Mrs. Roy Mosebrook who owns Oakdale has compiled a list.
Buried in the cemetery
Adam Clement May 25, 1782 - January 1, 1858
Nancy Clement May 8, 1784 - November 15, 1854 wife of Adam
Charlotte Ann Clement March 12, 1817 - July 5, 1881 daughter of Adam and Nancy Clement
Ann M Cocke January 14, 1827 - May 31, 1888 wife of Maj. Adam Clement

I have not attempted to verify this information, the day I was there it was very wet and the vegetation was very green. I intend to go back in the winter.

Has anyone compiled a list of all that are buried in the cemetery at Mountain
View? I know I would be interested and I assume there are many others too.

PS Am I correct in that there are no grave stone, visible at least, at
CLement Hill and Turkycock? Also are Vineland and Oakdale the same place in
Gladys?
Good to hear that you are continuing the search. I have been working on my
Mom's lines more than anything else, but keep involved with some of the
surname lists to pick up on information like I did on the Clements. But I,
like you would like documentation. However, like you, I have several of
those common sense feelings about what I have found, and in some cases, I am
afraid that is as far as I am going to get unless I find some obscure bit of
information somewhere besides the logical place.
How are you doing all this out of state research? I am doing OK on my SC
lines here instate, altho. there are big dead ends in the late 1700s early
1800s to try to connect them to their out of state ancestors.
YES, please keep me information. I will add the names you have given me
with comments about assumptions. Do you have a problem with the fact that
you are listed as a source in my FTM file and your email address is
available. I certainly don't, but recently had someone get very angry with
me because I put her down as the source of some data on her family -- and it
was on generations back who were all dead, not living idividuals.
Thank you for your condolences concerning Vella. We miss her, but had lost
her several years ago to alzheimers, and we were ready to give her up to a
better, glorious eternity.
Appreciatively,
Billie

I keep seeing these folks, but since I am so new to the Clement research, I
do not know how they are connected to Captain Benjamin b 1700 who the list
has recently told me is the father of Isaac Clement b 1733 who is the father
of my Rachel Clement m Stephen Butterworth.

Richard,
Thanks for the info. I will give a brief rundown on Mary A C Clement.
Mary was born either 1830 or 1828. The 1850 census has her as 20 [the only
other person in household of Adam Clement beside Nancy his wife] , the 1860
has her as 32. She married Geo W Jennings 31 July 1853 in Campbell Co. Geo W
Jennings was born Nov 7, 1830 Campbell [family papers] and died 1864 in
Bristol VA [family papers], he was struck by a train. Mary and Geo had only
three children.
Nannie Catherine Jennings born April 17, 1855 died Jan 12, 1893 in Lynchburg
[Springhill Cemetery]
George A Jennings born 1857 [Census]- he married a Miss Slaughter in
Danville. She was a Clement Cousin, her mother was a Clement.
Charles Henry Jennings was born after 1860 and before 1864 - He married
Hattie Jones whose mother was Mary C Clement [daughter of Robert A Clement
and Mary Terry I believe]. I have a letter he [Charles H Jennings] wrote in
1927, so he lived until at least then.
Mary A C Clement died around 1869 in Concord [ family papers]. Since Nannie
was just 14 and the boys 12 and 7 or so I believe they lived with Clement
relatives since they remained very much in touch with this side of their
family. I haven't searched out the guardianship documents on this though.
Perhaps with one of the Geo W Clements since Nannie was married in his home.
Nannie and Jesse Howard were both g grandchildren of Maj Thomas Jones of
Campbell.
Nannie married Jesse Howard Jones [Jan 9, 1851-Jan 12, 1900] April 8, 1873
they had the following children:
Thomas Bain Jones Feb 9, 1874-1938 [my mother's father]
Charles Wesley Jones Sept 10, 1875-
Edward Lee Jones Apr 24, 1877-1956
Eugene Jones July 7, 1878-1917
William Jennings Jones April 24, 1879-ca 1959
Mary Catherine Jones July 1, 1882-1976
Lula Carrol Jones Dec 17, 1884-1974
When Nannie Jennings Jones died, Jesse Howard married as a second wife
Cornelia Emma Clement of Pittsylvania [May 10 1861-Feb 14, 1907]. Jesse and
his two wives are buried in Springhill Cemetery in Lynchburg.

Tom:
Mary A. C. Clement, who married George W. Jennings in Campbelll Co., VA
on 31 Jul 1853, was daughter of Adam Clement, Jr. and Nancy Alexander.
George Washington Clement, who married Sarah Isabella Clement, was her
brother, and he was thus the uncle of her daughter Nannie Catherine
Jennings.
Would you give us a rundown on the children of Mary A. C. Clement and
George W. Jennings, and the children of Jesse Howard Jones and Nannie
Catherine Jennings?
