Folks,
My 3rd great grandmother is Mary A. E. Clements. She married William
Harlow, according to this source:
Barren Co. Marriage Records, 1799-1849, ed. Martha Reneau, 1934, p. 118
Sur: Jewel R. Craddock, consent her guardian Pas. D. Craddock.
Md. 10 Jan 1833 by Zacheus Quisenberry
Notice that her guardian was Pascal Craddock.
Mary A. E. Clements Harlow is the daughter of William Clements of Amelia
Co., Va.:
Barren Co. Deed Book "F" p. 466, 1819:
Paschal D. Craddock of Barren guardian to Wm. Henry Clement, Rebeckah
Clement, Sally Clement, Harriet Clement, Mary Ann Clement, Heris of Wm.
Clement, ded'd of Amelia Co. Va., Power of Attorney to John Matley of Green
Co. Ky to receive of John Booker (of Amelia Co Va, executor of the estate
of Wm. Clements, Ded'd) money due said heirs. 1819
Other sources that prove this relationship are:
Warren Co. Order book E-5 Feb. 1816
Paschal D. Craddock appointed guardian to infant orphans of William
Clement, Dec'd, bond $1000 recieved C. Craddock, security.
also
Paschal D. Craddock gives power of Attorney to John Motley of Green Co. Ky.
to receive of John Booker (of Amelia Co. Va, executor of the estate of Wm.
Clements, Ded'd) money due said heirs, 1819.
I saw in the archives of this list that Mr. DeRoy Beale sent on Friday,
October 02, 1998 an extraction of the Amelia Co. Order Book 32, p. 208,
where the descendants of Isham Clements are outlined, including the heirs
of William Clement (the son of Isham) who was deceased.
These are the children that I have in my data base for William Clements and
Mary "Polly" Clarke Craddock:
Descendants of William Clement
1 William Clement b: Amelia Co., Va. d: Abt. 1815 Warren Co., Ky.
.. +Mary Clarke Craddock b: Abt. 1769 Va. m: 26 Dec 1799 Amelia Co., Va.

I am interested in all aspects of these families and enjoy tracking
descendants of the lines that I have researched. So any additional info
would be very appreciated.
I do wonder if anyone knows if William (son of Isham) actually died in Va.
or in Ky.
Thank you for any help that you can give to me.
Sincerely,
Karen Jorgensen

I just recently went through my grandmothers pictures again that I had
copied in the early 1970s. One whole batch appears to be friends and
distant relations that I cannot place. Most appear to be 1900 or earlier
from the clothing and the type of original photo - mounted in a very old
album.
There is 1 picture marked in pencil "Uncle Ben Clement" showing an elderly
gentleman in a fine suit of clothes. No dates. Picture may have been made
in Freestone county, TX as that is where my grandmother lived, or made
elsewhere and mailed to relatives in the Luna Community.
I ASSUME that Ben Clement is a brother of Agnes T Clement 1804-1888 that
married Champness Terry Echols in 1828 in Campbell Co, VA, moved to
Henderson CO, TN, then on to Rusk and Freestone Counties Texas.
If anyone wants a .jpg scan of this picture please contact me privately.
Maybe someone else knows for sure how Uncle Ben fits in.

Hello everyone. I was invited by Marna to join this list. I have known
of my Clement connection for a long time but have not done any research
on them until now. Benjamin Turner Clement/Eleanor (Ellen) Rigney were
the parents of my great-grandfather Albert Sidney Rigney, b.1867, d.
1949. My grandmother, Della Mae Rigney Cooper, b. 1893, d. 1970, was
his daughter. My father is her youngest son, Samuel Fowlkes Cooper.
I was born in Pittsylvania County, VA and grew up in Caswell County,
NC. My husband and I live in Connecticut and work for a regional
theatre here. I am fairly new at genealogy so I'm afraid I will not be
able to offer much to the discussion right off the bat. However, I am
very interested in tracking all of my family lines and am delighted that
you have asked me to join.
My father was the youngest of Della's nine children and, as a young boy,
frequently traveled with her to Franklin County to visit Albert. My dad
tells great stories of laying in the bed at night listening to the dogs
barking and howling after game while Albert hunted on the mountain.
These are among the stories that attracted me to learn more about my
Franklin County ancestors.
I am delighted to have made this connection with my Clement cousins. I
look forward to joining in your dialogue and thank you again for asking
me to join you. If anyone needs info on Albert Sidney's line, please
let me know. My Dad and I would be happy to share with you what we
know.
With warmest regards,

Ellen Rigney }
vs }
Benjamin T. Clement }
Attachment returned by James O. Swanson Constable
This day came as well the said Ellen Rigney by her Counsel as the said
Benj. T. Clement by his Counsel, and it appearing to the court that the
process in this cause has been duly served and that Henry C. Clement and S.
T. Clement are present as garnishing in said matter, and it being admitted
by the said Henry C. Clement that he is indebted to the said defendant
Benjamin T. Clement in the sum of $2000. two thousand dollars or
thereabouts as the purchase money for said Benjamin T. Clements interest in
certain real estate situated in the county of Pittsylvania and devised to
him by the will of his father Geo. W. Clement decd. which said real estate
it appears was sold by the said Benj. T. Clement to the said Henry C.
Clement for the sum of $2000. Six hundred dollars of which was to be paid
on the 1st January 1871 and the residue in two equal instalments payable 1st
January 1872 and 1st January 1873 respectively and title was retained to
said land until all purchase money was paid. It is therefore considered by
this Court that the said Ellen Rigney receive of the defendant Benj. T.
Clement the sum of Seven hundred and fifty dollars the sum mentioned in said
Clements bond to her less the sum of one hundred and fifty dollars the
aggregate amount of credits allowed on said bond and thus Henry C. Clement
the garnisher admitting his indebtedness to said Benj. T. Clement as
aforesaid to pay to the said Ellen Rigney the said sum of $750.00 less the
credit aforesaid in the manner following to wit $75.00 on the 1st day of
July 1871 $75.00 on the 1st day of July 1872 $75.00 on the 1st day of July
1873 $75.00 on the 1st day of July 1874 $75.00 on the 1st day of July 1875
$75.00 on the 1st day of July 1876 $75.00 on the 1st day of July 1877 and
$75.00 the residue thereof until the 1st July 1878. And it is further
considered by the Court that the said amount of $750.00 after allowing the
credit as aforesaid shall be a charge and a lien upon the land purchased by
said Henry C. Clement of said Benj. T. Clement until the whole amount of the
same in the manner above indicated shall have been paid off and satisfied
together with costs and any interest that may accrue thereon and to more
effectually carry out said order it is further considered by the Court that
the said Henry C. Clement shall execute to Langhorne Scruggs as Receiver of
this Court in this cause bond with good Security in the penalty of $800
conditioned to pay the amount of $750.00 less the credit aforesaid and in
the manner above stated for which judgment was rendered against him above as
garnisher and to abide fully the orders of the Court in respect thereto,
said amount when received to be paid over to said Ellen Rigney or her
authorized attorney, and leave is granted said Ellen Rigney to apply to the
Court for any order necessary to enforce the recovery aforesaid in her
behalf and that said plaintiffs recover her costs about her attachment in
this behalf refunded.
Greetings! I was invited to join this list by Marna and I am very glad! I
found this connection last year while researching the Combs family, a very
predominant direct and collateral line in my family. Rachel Clement married
Henry Harrison Combs. She was the daughter of Benjamin and Susannah. The
land they lived on, called Clement Hill, is located in the very northern
reaches of Pittsvylvania Co. VA It is bordered on one side by the Stauton
River. Over the Stauton is Altavista and Campbell Co. VA. Most of the land
was sold off and developed but a small house remains occupied. It is a
rental unit so I'm not sure who owns it. My husband's family is from this
area of Virginia. So it was rather ironic to find these folks in my line!!
I would love to share more information on this line with others. What I have
is mostly secondary sources although I plan to do at least a half day of
research in Chatham (the county seat) on my next trip to Virginia. My
husband Derek and I live in Ohio and in the process of restoring a Victorian
home so please be patient with me. We're spending a lot of time and energy
into a faithful restorian of the Victorian essense, including the furniture.
Thanks and I look forward to learning a lot more about the Clements!!

To all memebers and especially to To Joy Fisher, THANK YOU!
I am a new member of your incredibly wonderful organization and I am sending
my latest patriarch of my line of descent. I erroneously listed William as
the son of Benjamin and Elizabeth GRIZZELL. I received this wonderful
correction from Joy Fisher:
"There is no evidence to support the link from William (father of Capt. Ben)
to the preceding generations. To the contrary, the births of all of the
other children of Benjamin and Grizzell are listed in the Abingdon church
records. There is no William listed."
Therefore, red faced, I am submitting my corrected line. If anyone knows who
William's parents are, please contact me.
William is shown as the son of a Benjamin Clement, as listed on King William
Co Quitrent rolls in " Clements " by Jeanette Holland Stucki & Dorothy
Holland Herring pg 8. His father is listed "of Gloucester Co" in 1704. Did
"Clements" erroneaously show him as a son of a Benjamin? I was also told
that William and his father, Benjamin, are mentioned in the will of Edward
Creffield of London in 1694. Did the will refer to them as father and son or
as William and Benjamin?

Hi,
My first husband is a descendant of Anna Clemets who married John
Brownfield. Following is the information I have. I grew up near Champaign
Co. where they lived so I did my research first hand. There is no proof Anna
Clements Brownfield if buried in the Clements Cememtery, Somer Twp.
Champaign Co., IL. Her headstone was found in the wall of the summer kitchen
at the old home place. I have a picture if it. We have never proved where
she is buried. I found John Brownfield's stone, however, it was broken off
at the base and some of the local Brownfields were going to have it
repaired. John remarried Sarah Mary Margaret Taylor Brownfield McElroy on
February 13, 1846. She was his first cousin and his first love but that
could not be. So after his wife died he went back to KY to get "Polly" and
marry her and bring her back to Champaign Co., IL to raise his children.

Benjamin and Anna Clement Perkins had a daughter named Susannah (my great
grandmother) married my great grandfather Williams James (Gilson) Popham, a
circuit minister. He MAY have been from Va or England. Would any one im this
line have a POPHAM line. It is my brick wall.
Thanks in advance

This manuscript by Stucki & Holland has some good information -- and a lot
of misinformation. There is one guy in it who fought in the Civil War; his
father fought in the Rev. War (an 80 year span between father and son?) --
only problem is the Civil War soldier died in the CA Gold Rush in 1849 <sigh>
You would do better to get the Quitrents and check it for yourself.
Ms. Weld, welcome to the Clement-Benjamin-List. I feel confident you will
find it a learning experience.
I would like to advise you of the following correction to the information you
posted.
<<7-11 Elizabeth CLEMENTS b 1751 VA, d bef 1770; m 1767 Bedford VA Isaac
Benjamin BUTTERWORTH;
>>
This is one of my Clement lines. Elizabeth CLEMENT, was married to Benjamin
Butterworth. He was not named Isaac nor was he named Isaac Benjamin.
Mrs. Maud (Carter) Clement incorrectly gave his name and it has unfortunatley
been wrongly perpetuated.
I would highly recommend that you view past postings to this list in the
archive. You will find postings regarding the known, provable ancestry of
Captain Benjamin Clement, of Clement Hill and postings which discuss his
wife, Susannah Clement.
Kind regards,
Charles Ward
