Hi, All -
Should any of you be interested, I just ran across what appears to be a "stray" Witcher family on the 1850 Coosa Co. AL Census (Coosa Dist.) which I am listing below. I call this a stray, as I only saw the one family, although I may have missed another one or two.
1020. WITCHER, Andrew J., age: 38 b. NC Farmer
Mary, age: 26 b. NC
Vincent, age: 8 b. GA
Bushrod, age: 7 b. GA
Elizabeth, age: 5 b. GA
Benjamin, age 1 b. GA
Note: Since youngest child is age one, b. GA, and this is the 1850 Census, this family must have moved from GA in early 1850.
Hope this will be of some use to someone.
Happy Holiday Season!

likely due to using numerical date (1-12-1845 & 12-1-1845).
11. Rebecca Clement B. 1830 St. Clair Co., AL.
I have a lot more dates and data on William Washington and his children.
I have not researched children of Martha and John Tims, since they were not closely related to my line. However, I may have other notes or run across these children in my research now in progress, so I'll watch for them.
Have you viewed Bill Couch's Family website on the James A. Stedman Family? He was Martha's maternal grandfather. She, incidentally, was named after her mother, who was called "Patsy".
Bill Couch might be of some assistance to you in learning the names of these children, or know where you can get help. If they did remain in St. Clair Co., AL, as you think they did, then they should be on the census there.
However, William Washington, Sr. and several of his children moved to Marion, Franklin, and Walker Counties, AL - some went on to Franklin Co., TN. My link Aaron Clement is found there in Franklin Co., TN with his 2nd family on the 1880 Census. As a very old man, he returned to his family in Blount Co. before he died in 190l.
Bill Couch's website can be found at: http://www.rootsweb.com/~alstclai/
His email address is on this site.
Hope this will be of some benefit to you.

I would also like a copy of the picture.

Alta,
I think that Martha would have to be the dtr of William Clement of St
Clair Co. However this may be hard to prove since I believe that William
died in Franklin Co. AL where the early records were burned!

Hi to all,

I am looking for family data on the parents & family of Martha Clement. Martha married John Tims on 1-12-1845 in Saint Clair County, Alabama. They had children in Saint Clair County, AL. I do not know any names or dates of this family except my line from them. My Line, William Columbus Tims, son of Martha, was born 2-14-1852, St. Clair Co., AL. He married Sarah Minerva Cameron in Hillsboro, Al on 12-10-1873. Sometime about 1890s, Wm & Sarah M. Tims moved to Texas. I don't think John & Martha Clement Tims came to Texas with them. Thank you. Alta
Anita;
Reference your post concerning the mention of Elizabeth
Clements coming to Virginia on the "George" in 1617. In the book "Some
Early Land Owners" (Colonial Surry), ( I only have a few photo copies of
4 pages), there is mention of Elizabeth being on the "George" coming to
Virginia however, the "George" was owned by William Ewen of Stepney, who
was married to Margery Clements, the widow of John Clements, Geoffrey's
brother. On that trip to England the "George was also caring
Pocahontas and we know she died as they started to return. Also
Accompanying the " George" was another ship, the "Treasure" which was
Captained by Ralph Hamor. Ralph Hamor and Elizabeth Clements were
Married 1623 Hamor had left his ship at Plymouth Port and gone to London
with Capt Gwen on the "George". I think it is reasonable to assume that
reading the passenger list one would think it was her initial trip. In
the book "Pocahontas, the Life and Legend", by Frances Mossiker, there
is mention that Capt. Hamor made many trips between Virginia and
England, Elizabeth may have made several trips to visit family. I have
read somewhere (unknown to me now) that Jeremiah, married Eady and
brought her from Wales to Virginia so he may have lived in England some
part of his early life. The more we discuss this issue, the more we
will learn as each of us has some bit of info.

Hello,
After looking at some previous correspondence, I noticed that it is assumed
that Jeffrey died in 1609 and that Elizabeth came to VA in 1611.
It is stated in "Genealogies of Virginia Families", Clements of Surry Co., VA
and Baltimore, Maryland, on page #373, that Jeffry (Geoffry) Clement died in
1609, and that Elizabeth Fuller Clement came to VA in 1611, with her four
children: Jeremiah, Nicholas, Ezechiall and Elizabeth, and two servants,
Jeffry Hull and Dorothy Green.
BUT
In "Adventures of Purse and Person", Virginia 1607-1624/25, on page #197, it
is written that Mrs. Elizabeth (Fuller) Clements came to Virginia with her
family in the ship George in 1617. (It goes on to give further info)
I found the following information on microfishe at a LDS Library in
Louisville, KY, in 1980. (I have wanted for a long time to discuss the
differences with other Clement searchers, and this seems like a good time.)
If all of the following children in fact belong to Jeffrey and Elizabeth
Clement then he could not have died in 1609, since their last child was born
in 1612. What happened to the first three children???
The following is a listing of births:
(In these records his name is spelled Jeffrey)
1. Samuel Clement/Jeffrey Clement b. 7Sept 1601
Clerkenwell, St James
Batch # POO1411 Sheet 2255
2. Elizabeth Clement/Jeffry Clement b. 29 May 1603

3. Thomas Clement/Jeffrey Clement b. 7 Nov 1604
Clerkenwell, St James
Batch # POO1411 Sheet 2597
4. Nicholas Clement/ Jeffrey Clement b. 7 Dec 1606
Clerkenwell, St James
Batch # POO1411 Sheet 2904
5. Jeremiah Clement/Jeffrey Clement b. 8 Nov 1607
Clerkenwell, St James
Batch # CD49032 Sheet 13047
6. Elizabeth Clement/Jeffrey Clement b. 10 Nov 1609
London, Holy Trinity The Less
Batch # CO23312 Sheet 0945
7. Ezechill Clement/Jeffrey Clement b. 6 Oct 1612
London, St James Garlickhithe
Batch # CO22492 sheet 1614
What are your thoughts on this?

The transcription of the obituary that follows was made from a photocopy of
an obituary (date and name of newspaper not on the original obituary
clipping photocopy) that can be found in the Clement 'Family Folder' at the
Department of Archives and History, 330 Capitol Avenue, S.E., Atlanta, GA
30334.
Isaac Sidney CLEMENT, the subject of the following obituary, was a
descendant of Benjamin CLEMENT and Susannah HILL.
*************************
CLEMENT. -- Death came suddenly to my father, Judge Isaac S. Clement,
December 22, 1891. His native State was South Carolina, where he was born
in Anderson, March 2, 1831. He came to Georgia in 1853, and four years
later was admitted to the bar, continuing in active practice more than a
quarter of a century. Fond of newspaper work, he was assistant editor of
the Georgia Methodist two years, and owned and edited the Cumming Clarion
sixteen years. He was postmaster in Cumming for some time, and was school
commissioner of Forsyth county nearly twenty years, that being his last
work. Such is the record of his public life, every act of which was
characterized by the highest integrity. Happily married to Miss Mintie
Bell, his home life was a model of purity and peace.
In 1855, he joined the Methodist Church, and remained one of her warmest
advocates. Believing in entire sanctification, in 1885 he obtained the
glorious experience, and was a daily witness to the truth and power of the
doctrine he professed. Pain racked his slender form for thirty-nine long
years, and the last five were spent in tortures of nervous prostration.
Amid it all, no murmur of discontent was heard, no expression of wonder at
the chastening of the Lord. In addition to his printed articles, he left
many valuable manuscripts bearing the stamp of a logical, cultured mind.
Brave, magnanimous, honest and sincere, with an intellect of remarkable
strength and tenacity, he was a king among men and an honor to his race.
The patient, suffering soul has entered into eternal rest.
It has left the imprint of every Christian grace, an example that is more
than rubies, and a memory that shall evermore be blessed. -- ELLA BRASWELL.

If anyone out there has a photo of Oakdale that they could scan and email to
me I certainly would be appreciative of it. My address is Talqt(a)AOL.com. The
photos of Clement Hill came through fine. I would like to thank Frank again
for doing this.
Back to the project at hand. I said that I would post the marriage records of
the groom index for Campbell County Virginia that I have. I have a photocopy
of the register, not an abstract. The writing is very legible. The register
looks like a ledger with columns and listings: Date of marriage or bond,
male, female, names of parents of male, names of parents of female, name of
ministering performing ceremony. The dates run from 1789 through 1846 and is
page 30 of the register. The above is the only information that this contain.
Sometimes there is other info on file and it has been my experience that if
you write the County Clerk with SPECIFIC dates they will check and see if
there are other records.
I have copied the register exactly and have checked it twice for error.
Anything inside '( )' appears as such in the register. Anything inside '[
]' is a comment by me. Names are spelled and abbreviated exactly as they
appear. The sequence of entry is exactly as it appears also [sometimes the
date is out of order]. Sorry on the last post, I made two errors. Its said
'Geo W Clement Jr.,'- I misread it should be just Geo W Clement. Also, the
correct year should be '1841'
