I've "rescued" three old daguerreotype photographs identified as Josephine
Ware CLEMENS FERGUSON and her husband S. S. FERGUSON. There is no studio or
location identified and each of the photographs is in an old leather union
case with velvet lining. All the photographs appear to have been taken in
the 1860's or 1870's. One identified as Josephine appears to be of an older
women, maybe actually her Mother or Mother-in-law in reality. Another
photograph recovered from the same source belongs to the MOUGEY Family that
appears to be connected as well.
Based on limited research I was able to locate the following information
regarding this family:
Samuel Seeley FERGUSON was b. 1 Jul 1833 in Westmoreland Co. PA to parents
Samuel FERGUSON (b. PA) and Almira SEELEY (b. NY) and he married Josephine
Ware CLEMONS (1838-1912). Samuel died 3 Jan 1916 in Amanda, OH and is
buried in Portsmouth, OH. Josephine Ware CLEMONS was b. 29 Jun 1838 in
Akron, OH to parents John CLEMONS or CLEMENS (1796-1848) and Miranda or
Meranda WARE (1808-1850). Josephine had at least 6 siblings including,
Martha A. CLEMONS (1831-1907); John Crosbery CLEMONS (b. and died 1834);
Eunice Miranda or Maranda CLEMONS (1836-1850); Josephine Ware CLEMONS; Cary
C. CLEMONS (1841-1863); Franklin Clay CLEMONS (1845-1900); and Thomas
Jefferson CLEMONS (b. and d. 1848). Her father had two daughters from a
previous marriage as well, Elizabeth CLEMONS and Mary CLEMONS.
Samuel and Josephine had 6 children including, Laura Clemons; William Carey;
Lucy A.; Frank S.; Ella; and Mary L FERGUSON all born between 1859 and 1868.
Josephine died 10 Feb 1912 in South Webster, OH and is buried in the South
Webster Cemetery there. Josephine and Samuel's daughter Mary Louella
FERGUSON married Everett Clayton COUNTRYMAN on 1 Aug 1912 in Pike, OH.
Their daughter Laura was born 8 Feb 1859 and married Joseph W. MOUGEY and
Laura died 26 Oct 1930 in Columbus, OH. Their son William Carey FERGUSON
was born in Pine Grove, OH on 20 Oct 1860 and died 2 Nov 1924 in Portsmouth,
OH where he was a Merchant and he is buried in the Greenlawn Cemetery there.
