I have nothing, but will keep my eyes open for him. Washington Co., Arkansas
plays a big role in my family during that period of time.

I read of your records of Clemens in Virginia and Tennessee. My line is
Henry Edward Clemens of Wythe Co., Virginia 1765-1819. He married Catherine
Johnson in 1786. I would like to find his family beyond these dates. I
suspect Joseph Clemens as father, but no proof.
Can anyone help with the earlier Clemens?
Thanks/Kenneth George Clemens

I will be keeping an eye out for this one, since your dates and locations
closely mirror those in my family.

Hi,
I am seeking more information about Ezekial and James Clemens, the sons
of Jeremiah Clemens. Jeremeiah Clemens and his wife Elizabeth Moore were the
Great Grandparents of Samuel L. Clemens (Mark Twain). I believe from family
information that either Ezekial or James is the father of my 4th Great
Grandfather Jesse Clemens (see previous posted messsage).
here's what I've found so far,
Ezekial Clemens b. 1764, d. 1809 in South Carolina
James Clemens b. 1768 d. 1811. Had a child Jera Clemens.
Their parents, Jeremiah Clemens b. 1732 in Hunterdon Co., New Jersey, d. 17
Nov 1811 in Amherst Co, Virginia. Married about 1763 in New Jersey.
Elizabeth Moore b. abt 1740 in Trenton, New Jersey, d. abt 1811.
They had the following children:
1) Ezekial (see above)
2) Gershom
3) James (see above)
4) Christina
5) Samuel B. (Samuel L. Clemens grandfather)
6) Mahlon
7) Deborah
8) Phoebe
I have found additional information about the other six children, right now I
am seeking information about Ezekial and James to determine whether or not
either of them is the father of my Jesse Clemens.
thank you,
jim
Hi,
I am seeking any additional information about the following couple,
Jesse Clemens b. about 1794 North Carolina, d. about 1835 Washington Co,
Arkansas
married about 1825 to
Elizabeth (possibly also Clemens), b. about 1794 North Carolina, d. about
1860 Missouri.
Probable children are:
1) Sarah E. b. about 1823 in Indiana, married Hardy Harp
2) Nancy Jane b. 17 May 1826 in Tennessee d. 10 Dec 1897 in Toronto, Woodson
Co, Kansas married Absalum Harp (my Great Great Grandparents)
3) Adaline b. about 1828 in Alabama married William Cloer
4) James b. about 1830 in Alabama
possibly 5) John b. about 1842 in Arkansas (obvious conflict in date of
birth with date of death of father)
Note: I know that Sarah E. and Nancy Jane are children of this couple, the
others I have not personally verified.
thanks,
jim
Jim:
My line originates from a J. Clemens, but the sons names are different.
We also have the history of being cousins with the famous, or infamous,
Sam Clemens from Hannibal, MO. I am working with another researcher on the
Twain question. I also have made contact with a researcher in my area that
is of the Gershon Clemens line.
I will file your query and if anything of interest comes up I will
contact you.
Clemens regards, Patricia Ash.
