Hi All,
Wondering if anyone can help. My great, great grandmother is Isabella Cleland, born around 1873 in County Down. She was married to George Smith Laing. Isabella's mother was called Jane, and she was living with Isabella and George in 1911 in Northumberland. This is where it gets confusing - Jane is listed as Jane 'Cleland' in the 1911 census, and in 1901 I believe she's listed as 'Clelland' (alongside her husband Robert). I believe her maiden name may have been Jane Ellison Nelson - this is a bit of guesswork as my great grandmother had a bizarre middle name, Jane 'Nelson' Laing. I've noticed that Jane Ellison Nelson married a Robert 'Cleeland' which, if it's correct, would be another spelling of the name.
Can anyone shed some light or is this purely a huge coincidence?
Jo
