Unfortunately, I have no idea. The farthest back I can document is Robert Cleghorn (1835-1877). All the census info shows him as being born in London. On his marriage certificate he lists his father as Thomas Cleghorn, "goldsmith's refiner."
It's so frustrating. Obviously the BMD index doesn't start until 1837, so I'm having trouble finding his birth certificate. I feel like if I can find the right Thomas Cleghorn, I'll be able to then trace back much further.

For theGrays6,
Do you have any connection with Robert Cleghorn who died on the 1st of December 1785 aged 49?
Best regards, Pilgrim

I've posted before, but thought I'd throw it out there again! I am trying to find a record of Thomas CLEGHORN, who was the father of Robert CLEGHORN, b. 1835. According to Robert's marriage certificate, his father was a "goldsmith's refiner."
Robert CLEGHORN, b. 1835, married Rosana SHERGOLD. Robert was the manager of a tavern in London called Shakespear's Head.
Their children were:
William Robert CLEGHORN, b. 1867, London
Eleanor CLEGHORN, b. 1870, London
Arthur CLEGHORN, b. 1873, London
I am descended from William Robert CLEGHORN, who married Harriet Sophia COLLISS.
Thank you so much for any hints anyone might have!
