I cannot tie my Thomas Clegg who married Elizabeth Canada to the Chatham County, NC Thomas Clegg who married Bridget Polk. Although, a lot of people on Ancestry.com have combined the two Thomas Cleggs as the same. My research shows they are two different Thomas Cleggs.

I think our Thomas Clegg's parents are from Pennsylvania, since Elizabeth Canada was from PA. Also, there was a group of the Clegg family, Thomas, Matthew and Alexander Clegg from Rochdale, England to Belfast, Ireland to Philadelphia, PA after 1755 and settled in Lancaster County, PA. They later migrated to Indiana, Virginia and Tenn. Col Sanders of "Kentucky Fried Chicken" was a 3rd great grandson of the immigrant Thomas Clegg. The Clegg family in Tenn that descended from Alexander Clegg, changed the spelling to Cleage, after the Civil War.
There are a lot of people on Ancestry.com that have our Thomas Clegg as the same Thomas A. Clegg that married Bridget Polk. I have a book on Thomas Clegg of Chatham, NC and no where can I find anything that even resembles our Thomas Clegg. Thomas A. Clegg who married Bridget was born 3/6/1767, Northampton County, VA, died 10/23/1827, Chatham County, NC, Buried Clegg Cemetery, Chatham Co., NC. Bridgett Polk was born 6/3/1772, Accomack County, VA, died 2/18/1859, Chatham County, NC. They moved to Chatham County, NC 10/22/1789, with a young son 6 months old. Their home was about 5 miles south of Pittsboro, NC - 1 mile west of Hwy 15/501 and 1 mile north of Chatham, NC. Their cemetery is about 100 yards from the home site - northeast, and within sight. Only rocks mark the home site and that of another building. The cemetery has a rock wall still in fair condition. It is best for visitors to enter from near Chatham Methodist Church, along the old road, a one-mile walk. T!
