Hello,
I am trying to find out about my Great Grandfather, I have very little information as he died when my Nana was about 5/6 and then her mother died when she was 6/7!
His name was William Clegg, his middle name could have been Arthur. He was born around 1885 and died about 1929/1930. As far as I understand he was a captain in the IRA and was killed in serive.
He met my Great Grandmother - Josephine Keogh (was Manley) in Ireland in about 1923, My Nan - Muriel Kathleen Clegg - was born in 1924 in Ireland - possibly in Killyleagh. A year later they had another daughter Dorren Clegg who was born in Bradford, West Yorkshire, England. I can only presume that they moved to Bradford to be closer to William's family.
My Great Grandmother (Josephine) had been widowed in 1922 she had 8 children with her husband John Keogh before he died, and 6 of them were taken into care between his death in 1922 and 1923.
I can find no records of William & Josephine's marrage and when she died in 1931 in Bradford she has been recorded as 'Josephine Keogh' Therefore it is very unlikely they ever married.
After my Great Grandparents deaths, my Nan & her sister Doreen were raised by their half sisters Irene and Florrie Keogh (the only two of Josephine's children who were able to stay with her). They stayed in Bradford.
This is everything I know about both William & Josephine & would love to find out more... Could anybody help??
