Thankyou so much for your reply and the info that you sent, you certainly have been busy & found a lot, unfortunately it does not relate to my Cleggs - I wish it did, Its as though my Cleggs are 'invisible'!! My Grandfather John William was born in Bankershill,Yorkshire,according to the 1861 census,and the 1871 census shows them living in Hulme,M/cr.married to Sarah Ann Brown.

He married Sarah FIELDING #5392, 18 August 1828 at St Marys, Oldham, Lancashire, UK.
Children:
2. i. Jane2 CLEGG #3617 b. 1829.
Generation Two
2. Jane2 CLEGG #3617 (William1), b. 1829 in Lancashire, UK, d. 21 January 1882 at Cobar, NSW, Australia, buried 21 January 1882 at Cobar, NSW, Australia, cause of death Heart Disease 2 years, immigrated July 1859 to Victoria on "Royal Charter". Information on her death certificate states that she died at the age of 52, married at the age of 22 and had lived 23 years in the colonies, 17 years in NSW. At the time of her death, William was 27yrs, James 17yrs, Samuel 15yrs and John Robert 12yrs.
She married David KERSHAW #3616, 16 December 1849 in Prestwich, near Oldham, Lancashire, UK, b. c 1823/27 in Lancashire, UK (son of William KERSHAW #5394), occupation Weaver, Miner, grazier, immigrated 1854 to Victoria, Australia. David: David was living at Hopton Fold, Oldham at the time of his marriage.
The family appear to have been living in the Forbes district during the period 1862 - 1870 as all the children were born in that area. Localities quoted are Currajong Billabong, Bushmans Reef Billabong and One Mile, Grenfell.
David Kershaw registered the births of the children. He gave the following dates for his marriage:
On Sarah Jane Kershaw birth certificate 1851, Lancashire with David aged 34 and Jane aged 28
James Kershaw birth certificate Nov 1840, Lancashire with David aged 42 and Jane aged 36
Samuel Kershaw birth certificate 16 December 1849, Lancashire with David aged 40 and Jane aged 34
John Robert Kershaw birth certificate June 1852, Lancashire with David aged 46 and Jane aged 42.
