Thank you so much, Pat, for your help. I will look into Baxter Clegg's line.
I've been contacted by a couple of other Clegg descendants of Thomas Clegg and Bridget Polk that are sharing information with me.
Thanks again.

You will find information about Baxter (William Baxter Clegg) and his descendants in Louisiana. He was an educator in Homer, Louisiana, and then a Judge in Lafayette, Louisiana, in the late 1800's and early 1900's. Many of his descendants live in the Baton Rouge/Lafayette area. I came across information about him while researching my Cleggs in Louisiana.

They had 6 children, Samuel, William, Henry, Benjamin, Mary, Arthur. I am trying to find Benjamin's parents. If anyone can help that would be great.

Hi David,
Many thanks for replying. My husband John seems to think you are his cousin! Are you Tommy and Elsie's son?
Many years ago I was in contact with Jim and he gave me some information that was useful. My research into the family tree has progressed a lot since then and I would be only to pleased to pass it on to anyone that's interested. It has come to a bit of a standstill at John Clegg in 1841 as it is such a common name. I have information about John Clegg's wife Margaret Carter's family and also the Bowes family dating back to the 1700s.
John would love to hear from you and you can contact him at johncle(a)webace.com.au
Thanks for replying - it's great to make contact with 'family'.
Cheers
Jenny

My Father was born in Shildon and had six siblings. His fathers name was Edmund Clegg( seems to be a name passed down the generations). His only surviving sibling is his brother Jim, who has I believe carried out quite a bit of family research over the years. I will contact him to see if he has any information that may be of use to you.
I Live in Cheltenham in the UK.
Regards
David

I'm looking for information or descendants of Thomas Clegg, born 1763, died 1826 Chatham Co., NC, who married Bridget Polk, born 6/3/1772, died 1859 Chatham Co., NC. Bridget Polk was a daughter of Captain William Polk and Sabra Bradford. I'm a descendant of William Polk and Sabra Bradford, through one of their sons, William Polk, who married Hannah Hobson and migrated to Clinton Co., OH. I have alot of info to share on this Capt. William Polk's family line but am specifically looking for contacts with descendants from the Thomas Clegg/Bridget Polk line to share info with. I'd also like to find a copy of the out of print book of the Cleggs of Old Chatham County if anyone knows where I might find one. I'm trying to put together the birth and death dates of the 12 children of Thomas and Bridget Clegg, if anyone could help me. I found a list of their children in the publication of 'Some Descendents from Cap't. William Polk of Accomac, VA' by W.L. Porter, Chicago, published i!
n 1941, as follows:
William Clegg (died young)
Esther, married William Arens
John (went to Georgia)
Elizabeth (married --- Bixman)
David b. 1796 d. 1856, m. 1826 to Eliza Bynum
Nathaniel
Thomas Jr. b. 1803, d. 1877, m. Rebecca Lasater
Peggy
Nancy
Mary
Luther
Baxter b. 1811, d. 1884, m. Temperence Collins
This is all the info this publication provided on the Cleggs. Can anyone fill me in on any other info about these people?
Any help would be greatly appreciated!
Best Regards,
