Betty-
Is your Amos Cleaver the one referenced in the Genealogy of Vale, Walker, etc by George Walker Vale 1973-- I found a page in my files from the Norfolk Pub. Lib, with Ann Vale (No. 80) and John Cleaver listed as parents of #111, Amos G. Cleaver b. 22 December 1815 , who m. Amelia Morris-- etc...
I personally believe the Cleaver clans origin to be of English descent. The
spelling variations are indications of countries that some of the clans
descendants migrated to and through, including Holland and Germany, especially when
searching for relief from religious persecution. To substantiate this, all
one has to do is refer to our US Census for other European surnames in our
personal family genealogies and the evolvement of various spellings from the known
original root spelling.

Thank you for forwarding the book request. I would be very interested in purchasing a copy.
I had missed your earlier posting re the DAR. Unfortunately, I'm in the midwest and don't know of an access point for DAR records. But I do appreciate the references.
Regards Hickory Hill Cemetery, I had planned to go there in September and photograph every Cleaver headstone (and there are many). Unfortunately the business trip was canceled. I plan to try again in November when I go to visit my parents who remain in Delaware.
Lastly, I do have copies of John's will and estate settlement documents naming Stratira Cleaver. If they would be of interest, contact me via email amd I will arrange to send you copies.
Again, Thanks for the leads.

Brad-
I snailmailed your interest in the 2nd book to Ann Cleaver tonight. If you do not hear from her, please advise. I notice you are from, I think, ? -- ... Isaac 85, John 36, Peter 12, John 4, Peter 1-- Your John 36's 2nd wife, Stratia Garrison- is another clue I have wrestled with on my GARRISON/ Clever/Cleaver line (with no substantive connection construed so far..).
Did you ever confirm that those dates I gave you (from DAR, Washington DC research) for Sarah Susanna Bacon, wife of Peter 12 matched your cemetery find for her alleged/possible? gravestone? Is there a headstone still there for her and Peter 12? Did you get that info I posted for you a while back? And, yes, we are distant cousins via -- my ... Isaac 35, Peter 12, et al-- so its no wonder we both are looking for the same info...Your John 36 and my Isaac 35 were brothers...
Numbers used here are taken from Wm Jessup Cleaver's nomenclature used in his first book (I have a few pages only from copies made on my line...).
Do you think a DNA test could help with discerning our KLEVER/KLEBER? nationality (Dutch? German? English?) before Peter 1? Do you know male CLEAVERs who would participate?

Tonight, I snailmailed your interest in the 2nd book to Ann Cleaver-- So I hope you hear back from her. This book emphasizes 1600s-1700s, and emphasizes allied families in that same early time period...You and I are distant cousins too...

If you have any idea whether the John MEARS who married Margaret?, a daughter of Richard GARRISON and Rose KELLAM - of Virginia, links into your MEARS/CLEAVER family--- please let me know. This line is mentioned here-
http://www.grotonresearch.org/html2/dat04/dat476.html
If so, maybe my maternal Salem County NJ GARRISON/CLEVER line, links with the Virginia GARRISONs, as opposed to a missing branch of the many NJ/NY GARRISONs.
I did find some very well done MEARS/GARRISON info in a Richmond?? Virginia historical society or genealogical library, a while back-- but that is at a different location than I am...

Actually it is an indirect line of mine through marriage. My interest is in the Mears line and two of the Mears brothers married into Isaac Cleaver's family.
Hi from Bob Cleaver of Berks County, PA. The line I listed in my previous email was, of course, mine. I certainly am not closely related to the others who are on this thread at this time.

You didn't say if this was your line or someone else's. If it is your line it is described in part as ...John 14, John 4, Peter 1 by Wm Jessup Cleaver's nomenclature, if I am reading this right... See the message from Darren Price whose line (Isaac Cleaver/Mary Davis's son Jesse Benjamin Cleaver) seems to coincide with the one you spoke of who married into the Mears family.
If this is yours or someone else's line... let me know...
Sorry, I cannot and I do not do look ups. I do not own the 1st book since Ann Cleaver didn't have any more to sell. I too would like to buy one...My copy of the 2nd book is at a different location than I am.

If you have Jesse Benjamin Cleaver's siblings, could you reply here to Bob McCully, who wants to know about his line:
"the descendants of Isaac Cleaver and his wife Mary Davis...particularly their daughters Ann Cleaver and Catherine Cleaver. Both of these daughters married into the Mears family of Columbia County, Pennsylvania."
Isn't this your line too? We all need to try to work together to update William Jessup Cleaver's decades of work...Thanks

Both of these daughters married into the Mears family of Columbia County, Pennsylvania. Do you have any idea of whether these lines are covered in book 1 or book 2. I want to make sure before I request a copy of book 2. Any help you can give is appreciated.

I needed to return from my trip to Seattle, to look in my books at home in Cincinnati, which Ann Cleaver sold to my two sons (her deceased husband's distant cousins via my maternal line....) this past summer from her home. Her Indiana address has changed since this 2nd book of her husband's was published. She is not (I do not believe) on the web...
Do state which line of the Cleaver family you are from (with relevant dates)- Are you from Peter Cleaver and Catherine/Gertrude Shoemaker's line too?
She (Ann Cleaver, widow of Wm Jessup Cleaver) of course will want to know how many copies you want, where to ship, etc. I was re-reading the --whether we are really English or perhaps Dutch, not German controversy today in the book-- do you have family tradition on this question too?
I forgot how extensive the coverage of Allied families was in this book--most of it is geared towards late 1600's-1700s- The CLEAVER line was more extensively covered in the 1st book(entirely on CLEAVERs) - which is currently sold out of course...
I plan to forward to her the inqueries which are posted to this web site, in order of submission- that orders, etc. can be pursued fairly, depending on her supplies...
William Jessup Cleaver was a wonderful historian!
