LaNeta,
There is a genealogy of the early Cleveland family in Yorkshire in the
first volume of the three volume set of "The Genealogy of the Cleveland and
Cleaveland Families".
The Cleveland brothers who compiled the genealogy tell of the first
documented Cleveland, Thorkil de Cliveland, of Yorkshire, in 1066.
The name has been written in several different ways over many past years,
but when Moses signed his name upon his arrival in this country he spelled
it "Cleveland".
I should imagine a search for these volumes will not be difficult. They
were published in 1899.
Good luck in your search!
Helen MacKain (g-g-g-g-g-g-g-grand daughter of Moses and Ann)
I am a 10th generation descendant of Moses Cleveland and Ruth Norton but
would like
to go back farther than 1624 when I believe Moses was born in Ipswich,
England. My next
descendants are as follows:
Moses Cleveland and Ruth Norton
John Cleveland and Martha Simmons
Benjamin Cleveland and Bethia Whitney (3rd wife?)
Joseph Cleveland and Content Read
Benjamin Cleveland and Betsey Elizabeth Stockwell
Emily Cleveland and Benjamin Davis
Julia Davis and John C. Pratt
Phoebe Amelia Pratt and Charles Bennett
Henry Bennett and Louise DeMarsh
LaNeta Bennett and Douglas Gallagher (me)
Is Cleaveland the same family, just a different spelling?

Those 3 books you mention have LOTS of errors in them. I would be
careful and confirm everything you use out of them.

No, I haven't tried the Chronicles.
My line began with Aaron and Ann's son, Josiah Cleveland (1666-1709) and
his wife, Mary Bates.
Their son and grandson fought in the Revolution - William (1719- 1791)
and Henry (1744-1841).
I have the three volumes of the Cleveland families and can check any dates
or places that can help you.

I would like to be in touch and learn more about my Cleveland ancestry.
Through another web site for my Southold Clevelands I found their ancestry
traced back to the early 1200s and a fellow named Thorkil De Cliveland.
Do you
know if this was correct?
I look forward to being in touch - Pat McCabe
