I am afraid that I wrote in haste last night. The bible that I wrote
about belonging to a Cleveland family was on the web, not in my
possession. I hoped that someone on this list might recognize the names
and claim it. I only wanted to bring it to the lists attention. I am
sorry if I have been confusing. The original message is in the "Missing
Links" newsletter that I (email) subscribe to. The email that I posted
yesterday is what Kimberly posted to the newsletter. Kimberly is the one
to contact for this bible if it is your family.

I found an old photo album at an antique store in Vermont and
had to buy it because I couldn't bear for it to be thrown away
and all of those precious pictures to be lost. The pictures (all
those old ones on heavy cards) have no names written on them,
but there are a few "In memory of" cards with information on
them and some newspaper clippings in the back about a CLEVELAND
family. From the information in the album and what I have found
in my research so far, Charles A. CLEVELAND was a Civil War
veteran from Morristown, Vermont, Pvt. VT Inf 06. He married
Louisa Ann HARRIS, daughter of Alfred and Hannah HARRIS of
Broome, Canada, on March 28, 1865. They had 11 children who were
all still living in 1935: Mrs. Beulah BEARD, Mrs. Evelyn CHARLES,
Mrs. Myrtie KIDDER, Miss Mabel CLEVELAND, Mrs. Ethel FOWLER,
George CLEVELAND, Fred C. CLEVELAND, Henry H. CLEVELAND, Mrs.
Mattie MORES, Mrs. Hattie BAKER, and Elmer CLEVELAND. They moved
to Manchester, New Hampshire in 1885 from Hyde Park, Vermont.
Charles CLEVELAND (the Civil War veteran) died November 14, 1900.
Other names mentioned in the album include: Mrs. Elbridge PEASLEE
of Henniker (72), Mrs. Leonard FOOTE of North Weare (49), and
Mrs. Raymond THOMPSON (25), mentioned in a 1931 newspaper
clipping from Manchester, New Hampshire. Many of the photos in
the album were taken by W. R. CALL (913 Elm Street in one and
895 Elm Street in another) in Manchester and Colby 68 Opera
Block Hanover Street) in Manchester. Says duplicates of the
pictures can be had at any time. I wonder if they meant it ;-)

Is Lucinda a common Cleveland name? I have noticed that in my line there
are 2 Lucinda's.

I guess it is about time to see if there are any new comers who haven't heard my previous whimpers when trying to find Jesse Cleveland's parents and/or siblings.
My GGG Grandfather Jesse Cleveland was earliest seen (by me) in 1850 in the Franklin County lllinois. There are a few other Clevelands in that area ... namely Mahala and Andrew J. who were about the same age but nothing to prove a connection.
Jesse had a daughter he name Mahala too. I haven't paid too much attention to Andrew other than finding a bit about him in the National Archive as a Blackhawk War soldier.
I have a very poorly designed web page listing the contents of Jesse Blackhawk War pension file at :
http://members.aol.com/steffennw/JCCpensionfile.html
If you happend to get there and look at Item 8 you might notice that Jesse got his pension by a Special Act of Congress. It was a higher than normal pension for serving less than the usual minimum time during the Blackhawk war. I have been wondering if he might have had some "interesting" pictures of one of our illustrious politicians a yore. Maybe somethings never change....:-)
Take care,
Norm
P.S. Hi John....:-)
P.P.S. And not to cloud the Cle(a)veland multiple list issue.... John's last name is Cleavelin....:-)

I've been lurking here myself looking for anything on Jesse or Andrew. I
know one of these days someone is going to tell all on these boys and sister
Mahala. If I can just hold out until then. ;-)

As I have been sitting here lurking waiting for some info on my GGG Jesse (who is listed in the census as both a Cleveland and a Cleaveland) I have noticed that there doesn't appear to be too many other folks that are corresponding on both lists. I think it might do us well to combine forces.
I dunno what the listowners have to say...but just thought I would bring it up by sending it to both lists.
Thanks,

Okay, Southern Clevelands, I need a little help. I have concluded that my
Mary Cleveland who married Daniel Cumbie in 1832 in Pike County, GA, was a
daughter of James Cleveland.
James Cleveland shows up on the census in Pike County in 1840,and a James
Cleveland married, Mary Mcswain on 13 Aug 1835 in Pike County, and a James
Cleveland.
There is a James Cleveland in Stewart County in 1850. This is of interest,
because Daniel and Mary Cleveland Cumbie were had moved there - she died in
Stewart County, GA, abt 1845.
In November, 1846, Daniel Cumbie remarried to Amy Jackson, creating either
another possible tie, or a very interesting coincidence, because there was a
James Cleveland who married Fanny Jackson on 30 Dec 1841 in Henry County,
Georgia.
In reviewing other census records, I find that there was a James Cleveland
on the 1803 Tax List in Frnklin County, GA and on the 1830 census in Elbert
County, GA.
Any information or assistnce with hese folks would be very much appreciated.

Matthew, I searched my copy of the 1899 genealogy by Edmund Janes Cleveland
and didn't find either your Lucinda or Mr. Olmste(a)d.
One thing I can suggest at this point is the mailing list I have CC'd on
this message; perhaps someone on the list will be able to help you. See
the rootsweb.com site for subscription info (it's free).
Another thing you might consider, come to think of it, is that maybe her
maiden name wasn't Cleaveland. If she had been married before to a
Cleaveland maybe it would not have been noted in the bible. So you could
search the Delaware County marriage records for a Lucinda marrying a
Cleaveland, and then see if he died just before 1867. Given her age at the
marriage you know about, however, i would doubt that possibility.
And still another possibility, given the dates, is that she was an orphan
train girl dispatched to Ohio. Look at http://pda.republic.net/othsa/ for
some info on this.
Good luck in your search!
