Subject: Cleveland connection?
I am searching for the parentage of some Cleveland ancestors.
Ephraim
Cleveland b. 1773 d. 1815 m. Heziah Noble b. 1774 d. 1814. Their
children
may possibly include Cynthia b. 7 Oct 1797 d. 1799, Err b. 25 Mar
1799
and the following I have seen attributed to them but also to another
set
of parents; Lucinda b. 2 Feb 1801 d. 14 Jul 1856;Luther b.2 Feb
1801,
Noble b. 7 Mar 1804, m. 11 Oct 1825 to Gertrude Fulkinson, Maria
b. 7 Nov
1805, Edward b, 4 Jun 1805/07 , Semantha b. 4 Jul 1810 d. 1844.
These last
6 children I have seen attributed to Stafford Cleveland. At LDS they
are
with these parents. Also LDS records add a Charles D.which I do
not show
in either of the family groups in the hand written genealogy I have.
Then
there is a Noble Cleveland b. 7 Mar 1804 m. 11 Oct 1825 to
Gertrude
Fulkinson. It is noted a born in Sugar Creek, PA and lived in the
family
of David Lee at Havana". and after his marriage they" moved after
marraige
to Crawford settlement in Dix The following children. Ephraim, Ann,
Nathan, Matilda, Miranda, Stafford Noble, Charles and George . No
dates or
places.
For Stafford Noble Cleveland (said to have married twice) children
3,4,5,6,7,8 from Ephraim and Heziah Cleveland's above listed
family are
attributed. No wife given . Children; Luther 1801; Lucinda 1802-185;
Noble
1804;Maria 1805-1842; Edward 1807-1844; Semantha 1810-1844;
Charles D.
1813-1815 For his children by first wife,( her name not given) Lucy,
Dorcas, Mary ,Jane, Catherine, Calista, Julia, Edward and Allen
BUT the
ink is a bit faded so commas are not visable so some of these may
be first

This line descends through Lucinda Cleveland who married George
Cargill
Bentley and their daughter Adeliab, 4 Jun 1839 Caitlin ,NY m. Levi
Smith.
As you can see it is a mess with conflicting data that I can not
figure
out so I hope you can help.

Col Ben had two sons, John & Absaom by his wife Mary Graves, d/o Joseph Graves
(per Joseph's will).
Jemima's mother is unknown. (per Lyman Draper letters). She ma. 1st James
Wyley, whom she divorced, ma. 2nd Evangelist (called Evan) Edwards, who was
killed by Indians, 3rd Daniel Cleveland, s/o Jacob & Mildred White Cleveland.
She & Daniel both died in LA. Jacob's relationship to Col Ben has not been
proven, since Jacob's father is at the present unknown. It has not been
proven to be Jeremiah, who the authors of the 1899 Cleveland
Genealogies,(whose source "doesn't really know" and "thinks his grandfather
was Jeremiah", meaning of course Jeremiah White, Mildred's father.
Jemima, nor any of her 7 or 8 children were mentioned in Col Ben's will,
although he named several grandchildren, children of his two sons.
It is also not proven that Ben's mother was Elizabeth Coffee. Some records,
including mine have Martha Coffee (per letters from her granddaughters, Martha
Cleveland Lingrow & Sarah Cleveland Watson to Lyman Draper), who did a lot of
research on Benjamin Cleveland, prior to writing about the Hero's of the
Battle of King's Mountain.
As we all know, the Cleveland family history is in much need of further
research with acceptable records, before we can really find the correct
lineage. :)

Hi,
My grandmother was a Cleveland. She wasn't even 5 foot. and was as spry
as could be, The only illness she had was having her gall bladder
removed at age 84. I believe she was 94 when she died. But her
children, my dad and my uncles all had hearing problems, my dad had
meniers disease. My dad and all my uncles died of cancer. My aunt was
nearly 100 when she died. My grandfather was deaf and I always thought
it was from his side, but I guess it was Cleveland conneted! This is a
very interestig subject.

This is a correction of my posting from last week. I am looking for
information on Mary Cleveland who married Daniel Cumbie in Pike County,
GA in 1832 and who died in Stewart County, GA by 1845. A cousin has
told me that she believes Mary's father to be James Cleveland. Another
researcher has suggested that this James Cleveland may have been James
Madison Clevelan, son of Jacob Cleveland.
Can anyone shed any light on this family and give me an idea if I am
heading in the right direction?
Hi, I'm a first time lister.
In the 1899 Cleveland genealogy my Joshua is #2450 P.922. My grgrgrandmother
is Elizabeth #7174, only listed with a birthdate.
They were in Thorold, Ontario as were three of Joshua's siblings (according to
the genealogy) --Stephen, Sylvanus and Phebe Cleveland Shepard (since three
of her children were listed as born there.) This line opened up for me early
last year, but I was researching non-genealogical problems so have recently
starting again. I have original records for Elizabeth, DAR records for George
(both service & desc. files)& Thorold & Welland Co. Ontario history. Still
need to verify more data with primary records.
Would love to hear from Welland Co. Clevelands, Weavers & Michigan desc.too!

After seeing the post about hearing problems, it got me wondering about
other diseases and things that are hereditary. I have recently been
diagnosed with a Peripheral Neropathy, which my doctors tell me is most
likely a hereditary disease called Charcot Marie Tooth (It is named after
the three doctors who first identified the disease, not anything to do with
teeth! LOL). The disease effects the peripheral nervous system (hands,
arms, feet, and legs) causing increasing difficulty of movement as the
disease progresses, and may show up as hammer toes, stork legs, weak ankles,
etc.
I am descended from Moses Cleveland as follows: Moses, Isaac, Curtice,
Simon, Exekiel, George, William, Clark, Gertrude, Norman, and lastly me. So
far I have found no confirmation of the disease in any of my family lines.
Do any others of you out there descending down from Moses Cleveland have a
form of Peripheral Neropathy or Charcot Marie Tooth Disease running in your
family?
Since there are so many on this list that are descendants, perhaps I'll be
able to figure out if it could come from the Cleveland or the Hall lines of
my family.
Thanks,
Maggie Hall

anyone with deaf fafmilies or hard of hearing for any reason
I just want to say thank you soooo much for all the help I have received
from this group.
I have been visiting my daughter and a new grandbaby for over a week, so
am not on the computer quite as much as normal, but I did bring some of
my "work" with me of course.
I am so excited to find a few more piences to my puzzle, and can't wait
to get home and try to get this book through ILL. It would be really
nice if our historical library has a copy already - that will be my
first check point.
Again, thank you all so much for your kind help,
Laura Gilmore
Hi, New England Cousins!
Since the Gen of Cleveland Families is now 100 years old - any comments from "modern" researchers as to how well the book
holds up in the light of newer research?
I was tickled to find my g-gndmthr's family in the book - which reflects information our family has kept over the years.
My special interest will be any information or pointers for finding more definite proof of Simon Cleveland's parents. Is his
father Curtice? Josiah? mystery man?
My line:
1. Simon Cleveland b. abt 1728 - d. ? (1773 to 1777) + 1756 Elizabeth WHITE
2. son George Cleveland b. 1762 Salisbuty CT d. 1805 Delaware Co. NY
