Pls. excuse the long subject line.
It's been 99 years--has anyone found information superceding
the Cleveland genealogy by E. J. & H. G. Cleveland regarding
the wife of Deliverance CLE(A)VELAND of North Kingstown /
Exeter / W. Greenwich? They say (and others have followed
them) that Deliverance^4 CLEVELAND (Palmer^3, Edward^2,
Moses^1), b ca 1722, d 1766, married before 1743 Hannah A.
(BAKER) BARBER, dau. of W. M. BAKER, and widow of -----
BARBER; she d. 1 Sep 1796, Salem, Washington Co. NY.
I can't say I have been thorough, but I have been keeping my
eyes open, and haven't seen any obvious clue to who these
BAKER/BARBER people were, although both surnames are common
enough at the time in RI, and appear on and off close by
references to Deliverance and Hannah in such sources, e. g.,
as Margaret Beaman's "Exeter, R. I. Land Evidence" in RIGR
9.--though not close enough! Names like "Hannah A." and
"W. M." don't look right to me for so early; I have always
assumed they suggest editorial corrputions of "Hannah (Anna)"
and "Wm." But still, I haven't found them. Nor have I found a
marriage record for Deliverance and Hannah. I am aware of
recent scholarship regarding Deliverance CLEVELAND's parents,
but that doesn't help.
Hoping for the best, and hope I can reciprocate somehow later.

The local newspaper, in an article about past "Presidential Affairs and
Allegations", noted that President Bill Clinton is not the first U.S.
President to have been involved in a sex scandal. The article noted that
George Washington reportedly had several illegitimate children, Jefferson
had two "companions", one of whom was a slave, and so on through Franklin
Roosevelt, Eisenhower, Kennedy, and Johnson.
"Closer to home", the article noted that:
<paraindent><param>left</param>"Before Cleveland was president, this
widow (Maria C. Halpin) moved to Buffalo, where she kept company with
various men, including Cleveland. In 1874, she gave birth to a son, whom
she named Oscar Folsom Cleveland. Never sure if the child was his,
Cleveland provided financial support."
Des Moines Register, January 25, 1998
</paraindent>So what you all of you genealogists think? Want to add him
into the descendancy chart, or do you want DNA first?
It is acknowledged that S. Grover was single at the time, but
nevertheless, sort of scandalous behavior for those times. Regardless of
ones' political presuasion, it may serve as a reminder not to throw
<underline>too</underline> many stones....

As a school child, way back when, I remember a book on clothes of the
different periods. I loved it!!
I was thinking about getting one for me to use when putting my
records together but thought I would ask you if any of you have any
favorites along this line.
I like to have an idea of what the houses were like, what they wore,
what tools, and so forth to make these people come alive!
Can any of you help me with a great book? I can go to the library,
but they may not and probably won't have one of each available.
I'll bet that some of you may even have that special book so that you
will know which is the best to look for and buy!
Thanks so much! Maybe I can get hubby to get it for me for
Valentine's day!!

There are hundreds if not thousands of descendants of Alexander Cleveland/Milly
Pressley. You show a different twist than that accept by most to his ancestry.
Perhaps it is fair to ask you to show PROOF of the connections between the
earlier Alexander b. ca 1579 in England and the Alexander baptised in 1687 in
Glouchester Co., VA. Which of these earlier Alexanders's came to North America
and where did they locate. What PROOF do you have of either or both of their
existance in the Colony of VA?
This last week I received a letter from a Cleveland descendent in White
Co.
that was able to link my Clevelands to theirs.
I know many of you keep master index charts so I thought I would publish

missing dates, names or stories and histories I would greatly appreciate
it.
Many times I find the history behind an individual to be far greater
than the
dates. Also I am interested in filling in the branches of this tree so I
would love to have descendency charts for as many of my grandparents
brothers
and sisters as possible.

Terry,
A woman I ran into at a local library sent me the following message.
I came accross regarding a
Dox marrying a Cleveland. I found my notes that have one of my
cousin's, Betsey Dox b. 1813 marrying John Cleveland. I don't have
further info at this point regarding children or John's parents. I
realize this would not be the same John that you were looking for in
your post above, but I'm curious as to if there may be a connection
(perhaps you have more than one John Cleveland in your family).
The only John Cleveland that I could find that matched dates was John Cole
Cleveland listed below. The person he married does not match. Do you have any
info on a second marriage by this individual or another John Cleveland who
married Betsey Dox? John Cole Cleveland lived in the same area as this womans
family. Any help would be appreciated. there is no rush for this so check it
at your leisure. Thanks again.

Hello I have the group sheets that you can buy from Yates Publishing, if
anyone would like me to look up a name from the following let me know.
The first names in the file are: Aaron, Absolam, Alexander, Benjamin,
Charles, Ebenezer, Edward, George, Isaac, John, Josiah, L.C., Larkin,
Moses, Robert, William.
Also I would like to thanks all who have helped me so far in locating my
GGG Grandmother and her ancestors. THANKS!
Dear Wendy Lawrence
I found your comments in the Cleveland Digest regarding George Palmer, the
father of Deliverance. I had her father's name as Benjamin, but do not know
where that name came from, so I am willing to accept your information! You
seem to have details showing good research on the man.
My line is from Abigail b. 1789 who married George DeBord. She was the
daughter of Amaziah Cleveland, b. 1745/46, the son of Enoch Cleveland, b. @
1725, son of Deliverance Cleveland, b. @ 1684, son of Deliverance Palmer
and Edward Cleveland.
I am interested in any information you might on this line, including the
families of Roger Mowry and Capt. John Johnson. Where did you find all this
information - source?
I sent this to elawrenc(a)comsys.net, but the message came back, so I'm am
sending to the digest.
Thank you for you time, Loris Mitchell
I am a new member of the list. I wonder if anyone is researching Virginia
Clevelands. My line ended up in northern Virginia but started with Roger,
Alexander, Alexander Jr, Alexander III, Harrison, William, Sarah Catherine. I
have lots of info from William down but would love to make contact with
someone who has more information on Harrison Cleveland.

Hi all,
To find information on the families of Samuel Cleveland b. June 7 1730 and his wife, Ruth Derby b. Sept. 26, 1732 go to The Family Tree Maker home page and do a search. Does anyone have info relating to the Parents of William Riley Cleveland
born ca 1795 Massachusetts or Rhode Island. Death Certificate only shows
his mother's given name as Sylvia. William married Lydia Shaw born 1797
NewYork. WIlliam died March 17, 1877 Macomb County Michigan. I have already
eliminated the other William Riley Clevelands who were born much later than
mine.
Thank You
