We have seen quite a bit on the Civil War on the Web lately, and
decided to use the subject for our feature page. We've used the
Civil War News as the basis for some of the information. I think
that there is much that the genealogist can enjoy from this and may
find something to help them. This is one of the papers that the
re-enactors use so maybe someone is trying to portray your relative.

We do not gain anything monetarily from this page. It was put
together for you enjoyment.
I realize that I have cross posted this message, but I sincerely hope
to reach as many people as I can because I believe that many of you
might be interested in this.
If I have upset anyone with this, and I probably will, I apologize
now.

After our discussion, I came home and logged on to FTM and found the
material below about one of the Keyes/Cleveland marraiges. This is from
the 9 disk file I mentioned - the gentleman who did this file was Robert
Kyes, who died sometime in the last year or two. I think my other file has
more on a couple of the lines.

Hi,
I'm looking for a connection between the Cleveland family and my
Lincoln family. My 3GGrandfather Oliver Lincoln's daughter Rhoda used to
go to Massachusetts, Pembroke, or South Hadley, and stay with "Grandma
Cleveland" who needed her to help with the house. This time period
would be the year 1868-69. We have old letters dated 1868 stating that
"Rhoda is in Massachusetts at Grandma Cleveland who thinks she cannot get
along without her".
Please, if anyone has a Cleveland that married a Lincoln, let me know.
The time period probably would have been prior to 1808. My Oliver
Lincoln was born 1808 in NY, supposedly the son of Oliver Lincoln, born
in Conn. and ????, born in Rhode Island. We have not been able to find
anything on his parents.
Thank you,
Jeanne

Hi to the list,
I am interested in getting as many Clevelands as I can and having them
posted on the web for everyone to find and use. I have the CLEVELAND AND
CLEAVELAND GENEALOGY and it is fine up to a point but unfortanatly I am
sure that many people were missed in their search. For instance, my
husbands family had three more children between the time that they were
contacted about the book and the publication of same, therefor my
husbands line was very hard to find and we had a death notice of his
grandfathers death with a list of all of his children. Without that I
know it would have been much harder to find his line. So I am primarely
interested in people born after 1880 as that seems to be the cut off
date for a lot of these families. Anyone that would like to help please
e-mail me. Please check out my sites at:

I am very sorry for the multiple posts, but have managed to *brilliantly*
erase all my email messages. Thought I had moved them to a safe folder,
but the folder is gone also. The most disgusting part is that though I
reinstalled IE mail and news, I still don't have a working Spell Checker.
If anyone has sent me an email message since about 9pm last night, please
resend! I had over 200 messages today and had weeded out those I didn't
need, but had not responded to those I needed to answer.
Again, I am sorry!

In the Cleveland Genealogy, on page 2326, there is a listing for a for an R.
L. Cleaveland, Scottsville, VA, Merchant. The source listed is the Virginia
Business Directory, 1880-1.
This doesn't list anything else about this man, but maybe it will help in
your search.

I had someone send me some pages from a couple of books she had today.
There are everla CLEAVELAND things, but there isn't enough information for
me to put it together with the right person. Maybe you guys can help.
21st Reg - Col Douglass; Capt Smith's Company. Gives names, date entered
service and discharge date:
"James Cleaveland Ju 7th Sept. 1776 Enlisted Sep 21"
Cols Ely's and Enos' Reg., Bounties(Bounty paid to Subalterns ...1777 for
extra Services)
" Lt Josiah Cleaveland Col Ely's"
STORRS FAMILY
"Judah Storrs married Lucy Cleaveland, daughter of Henry Cleaveland,
December,3, 1744. He died May 29, 1791" The book then lists 10 children.
One of whom has the middle name of Fitch which is the surname for a Lucy
that married a Henry Cleaveland. I fact, one of you has her in your line I
think???
Would appreciate being able to put this information with the right person.
Thanks
Teri

We now have over 20 people subscribed to this list. It's great!
I'd like to see if there are any of you that will match the lines I have,
and there are probably others curious also. Maybe some of you new people
could give us a simple line?
