rying to locate info on Henry H. Cleveland, born 14 Oct 1854. He married
Minnie Porter, born 19 Feb 1864. Their children were
1. Ella Pearl Cleveland, 7 Aug 1881
2. Charlie Estus Cleveland, 18 Mar 1884
3. Effie Cleveland, 28 Jul 1886
4. Tim H. Cleveland, 5 Mar 1888
5. Herbert Porter Cleveland, 28 Apr 1892
6. Aylene Cleveland, 5 Oct 1895
7. Henry W. Cleveland, 7 Jan 1898
Any information would be appreciated on this family. I have the line of
Herbert Porter Cleveland . Herbert was my grandfather and I know that he
married Mary Francis Brown . I believe (according to a great aunt's family
bible) that he was born Henry Hamilton Cleveland 14 Oct 1854 and according
to the 1900 census Minnie was the head of household so he died before that
time. My grandfather never spoke of this man as he was very bitter about
his dying. The 1900 census of Mississippi shows the family living in the
Clinton, Mississippi district. Thanks for any help -

I went to our county library today and was looking for THAYER line and I
found this.
IRA CLEVELAND, farmer; P. O. Chatham Center; was born March 3, 1800, in
Salem, Washington Co., N. Y. ; son of Job and Hannah (Clark) Cleveland.
The Clevelands descended from one Moses Cleveland, who came from England in
1635, and settled in Woburn, Mass. Both Job and wife were natives of Rhode
Island. His father was Deliverance Cleveland, to whom was born four
children-Benjamin, Abel, Job and Hannah, who were born in New York, where
their parents located when leaving Rhode Island. To Job were born eleven
children, who were Anna, Hannah, Daniel, Lydia, Susan, Mary, Roxanna, Job,
Ira, Levi and Benjamin; all of them lived to maturity. Of those living are
Levi and Benjamin, in Salem; Mary, the wife of Mr. Graves, of Vermont;
Roxanna, in Wisconsin, and Ira, of this county and township, who was reared
to farming pursuits. Nov. 18, 1821, he was married to Elizabeth Russell,
who was born Oct.10, 1799, in Salem, Washington Co., N. Y., whose parents
were William and Submit (Fosgitt) Russell. William Russell was born in
Washington Co., N. Y., and was Treasurer of that county for many years.,
and was a son of Ebenezer, born in Connecticut, and. was a soldier in the
war of the Revolution. His wife was a Wilson before marriage. Job
Cleveland, the father of Ira, was in the Revolution, as was also Daniel
Clark, Ira's grandfather on his mother's side-he was killed in the battle
of Bunker Hill. Job, the brother of Ira, was also a soldier in the war of
1~2. After the marriage of Mr. Cleveland, he located on a farm in his
native county, where he lived until 1831, when he moved to Akron, Summit
Co., where he was engaged in the mercantile business two years;
subsequently engaged in farming near Akron. In 1840, he removed to Guilford
Township, locating two years, when he moved to his present place of living,
where he bought 197 acres of land, situated one mile and a half north of
the Center, for which he paid $5 per acre, upon which there were no
improvements. Five years after his arrival, he moved to Mississippi, and,
in company with Mr. Blodgett, built a sawmill, but, as the elements and
times seemed to work against them, the enterprise did not prove a financial
success, and he returned after two years' Southern experience. Since that
time, he has been a constant resident of the township. He has three
children living-Elizabeth. Mrs. Suggett; Laura, Mrs. Alfred Samelson, and
Clara, Mrs. Amos Jump. Mr. Cleveland has a good farm of 315 acres, and, for
forty-five years, he and wife have been members of the Congregational
Church. He is a solid Republican and a citizen highly esteemed in the
community.

While in Catt county, NY, there was a book that had old homes in the
county. I found this little place and thought maybe someone out there had
these people in their line.
This house in former days was the home of Isaac and Alice Cleveland. Isaac
was March 16, 1854. He was the son of Alonzo born March 5, 1825 in China,
now Arcade, Wyoming County, and Lydia Wheeler. The parents of Alonzo were
Brainard and Betsy Addy Cleveland.
Alice Moffett Cleveland was the daughter of James and Martha Onan Moffett.
Her maternal grandmother was the daughter of a slave holder killed in a
duel in 1795.
The place is presently owned, 1956, by Floyd Westlake and his parents.
Notice that Alonzo ws born in China. Missionaries?
Interesting!

Here is the Cleaveland information that I have. I
am working on the Braford family, but would like
to find any descendants of this Cleaveland line.
Amy Braford, born in Feb 1802, prob. in Washington
Co. NY, the daughter of Robert and Sarah Cornish
Braford. Shortly after the time of her birth,
the family settled in Cayuga Co. NY.
Amy Braford first married a man named ...GOODRICH,
and had a daughter Harriet Goodrich.
She then married, as his second wife, John
Cleaveland. Shortly after their marriage they
moved to Covington, Tioga Co. PA where they are
found in the 1850 census.
Their children are:
1. William Riley Cleaveland, born 1 May 1839
2. Martin Van Buren Cleaveland, born Aug 1840; (a
Martin Cleaveland, born in PA is found in Cayuga
Co. NY in 1865, married to Sarah Tyson, b. 1844,
daughter of Richard and Delany Tyson; they are
residing next to Adah Jayne Searles and
family - another Braford family. Is this the same
Martin?) Martin served in the civil war.
3. Clarissa Cleaveland, born 18 Apr 1842
4. Alanson Cleaveland, born June 1843
I would like to know who Clarissa married, and if
anyone is researching these lines.
Thanks - Tracy

I was trying to find information to connect my LINCOLN line to the
CLEVELAND name and came across the following line. I found this in the
Compendium of American Genealogy. If anyone has these names in their
line, please let me know. I also wrote down 19 other Cleveland lines
from Moses & Ann Winn listed in these volumes (except Volume 4 which was
missing from the library shelf). If you think I may have some info you're
missing, let me know and I'll check my notes. This is the line I am
trying to find more information on due to the location of Poultney,
Rutland County, VT:
Moses Cleveland & Ann Winn
Edward (b.1664) of Pomfret & Canterbury, CT, m.1st Deliverance Palmer
Deliverance (1684-1744) of RI and CT, m. Mary
Enoch (1725-1795) of Pomfret & Windham, m.Deborah Fassett
Solomon (1754-1844) of Canterbury, CT m.1st Martha Rathbone
Abigail (1789-1880) of Poultney, VT m.Lorenzo Ward of Poultney
The Lorenzo Ward that Abigail married is a descendant of Col. William
Ward (1680-1767). Col. William Ward married Jane Cleveland (1681-1745)
daughter of Samuel & Jane (Keyes) Cleveland, son of Moses.
My 3GGrandfather's sister Betsey Lincoln, born in Rutland County, VT, had
a son Warren who married Cecilia Geraldine Ward b. 1846. She was a
descendant of William Ward. I am also looking for other Lincolns in
Poultney, Rutland Cty., VT.

This is what I have in my program. I have moved my information to a new
program and don't have it all "cleaned" up yet. I don't have my hands on
the source right now. I know I was at the FHC in SLC. Again, the
ancestors before Moses, I'm not sure of. I picked those up also when at
the FHC. I'm sure these men did not marry the same woman but that is what
was there. I have not had the time to clear up this confusion yet. None
of this is my own work so please take it only for what it is, purely a
place to start or maybe ponder!!

Hello,
We have traced our CLEVELAND line back to Moses CLEVELAND, b. 1718 in
Ipswich, Suffolk, England. We understand he was from the same line as the
Moses mentioned in Terry and Teri Cleaveland and Bonita Hillmer's recent
posts. The first Moses apparently was b. in Ipswich also.
Does anyone on this list know the linkage between the two Moseses?
Secondly, we are trying to establish our connection to President Grover
CLEVELAND. We understand the line goes back to the first Moses. Does
anyone have those links?
Our line from the second Moses:
Moses Cleveland m. unknown woman
John Cleveland (b. 1749/50, d. 1800) m. unknown woman
James Cleveland (b. 1796, d. 1859) m. Jemima Robinson (b. 1801)
John Cleveland (b. 1829, d. 1905) m. Mary Elizabeth Beedle (b. 1831)
Charles Henry Cleveland (b. 1866) m. Lettie Mills (b. 1871)
Glen O. Cleveland (b. 1897) m. Edna V. Parker (b. 1900)
Ruth E. Cleveland (b. 1918) m. Joseph Hansen (b. 1911)
Bonnie Hansen (b. 1943) m. John Hawkins (b. 1943)
Tim Hawkins (b. 1961)
Our Cleveland family holds its annual family picnic Sept. 13 in Aptos,
California. We plan to share any new information we learn.

You didn't mention where Clinton county is. It would help us in
identifying the "northern" to the "southern" lines a little or if we have
anyone in the vicinity of your Cleavelands.

Hi everybody,
I was just wondering if anyone has information on a Cleveland that
married a Lincoln? My 3GGrandfather's daughter Rhoda Lincoln used to
visit a GRANDMA CLEVELAND in Massachusetts for extended periods of time
in 1868. We have been trying to find my 3GGrandfather's parents for
years. His name was Oliver Lincoln, born 1808 in Moriah, Essex Cty, NY.
We think the family moved to Rutland County, Vermont between 1810 and
1812. The family bible says that Oliver's father's name was also Oliver.
Census records say his Father was born in Ct, Mother born in RI. There
are several Clevelands that lived in Rutland Cty, NY and I'm wondering if
the father Oliver's wife was a Cleveland?
Any help would be greatly appreciated and I would be MORE than willing to
share information.
Thanks for reading this,
Jeanne

I'm really glad that Kathy pointed this out. First response to her was to
say "Terry did it"! <G> So, when I looked up the paperwork so I could
make changes, I find that we have the right information on the pedigree
chart because Hulda Ann died in 1882/1883.
What had thrown me off was that Joseph Grover was born before Jonathan and
Rebecca got married.
Guess I need to work on Terry's family a little bit more!
Thanks again Kathy!

Welcome aboard Bonita! I find what you have here interesting. I haven't
checked it out, but when I was at the LDS FHC in SLC, I saw a group sheet
that listed Moses dad as Issac and his father as Richard. Of course, the
group sheet also had the two men marrying the same woman!! I'd be
interested in finding out more about this and sources.
Then too, VIKKI, can you help us with this?
