John J. Cleary, 86,
passed away Wednesday October 10, 2012
at the Pennsylvania Soldiers and Sailors Home.
He was born May 26, 1926, in Troy, N.Y.,
a son of the late John and Lillian O'Neil Cleary. An alumnus of Siena College in Loudonville, N.Y., John served in the United States Navy in WWII and the Naval Air Corps in Korea. He retired from Nova Chemicals Corp. in 1995. A member of Our Lady of Peace Catholic Church, he is survived by his wife of 47 years, Elaine Hansen Cleary and two daughters, Kristen Reno (Robert) and Karen Cleary-Herman (Brian), all of Erie. Friends are invited to a memorial service at the Russell C. Schmidt & Son Funeral Home Inc., 5000 Wattsburg Road, on Saturday at 1:00 p.m. Burial will be at the convenience of the family in Oakwood Cemetery in Troy, N.Y. The family wishes to thank the staff of the Soldiers and Sailors Home for their dedicated care and comfort during John's stay there. In honor of John's life-long love of all animals, memorial contributions can be made to the Humane Society of NWPA, 2507 Zimmerly Road, Erie, 16506.

William Cleary was the father of my G grandmother Catherine Cleary, She married Horatio Howell May 26 1859 Carbonear Methodist Church. William was a witness. William was an Orangeman and was shot in the back Twice during the Harbour Grace affray. I was always told Catherine was of Irish descent. (Dublin) I would like to compare notes.

William John Cleary is my great-great-grandfather. John leslie Cleary who died in france in 1917 was my father's Grandfather. I have the last letter he wrote to William Richard Cleary (his Father)before he died.Plus pictures.
