On many of the ship manifests, the passengers listed both Irish and British. Remember, Ireland was part of Britain then. On the 1930 US census, you can notice that most people of Irish descent make the distinction that they are from the Free State of Ireland or Northern Ireland. On his passport, your Pierce says that he is going to visit his mother in Ireland and then travel to France. He was giving the purpose of his passport. I am sure that he was 100% Irish. He has now listed both parents as being from Ireland. E- mail me and let me know what else you are seeking and maybe we can find something.

Thanks Regina:) I'll email you today. I'm trying to get as much info as i can on my family members before my Great Uncle passes. He's in great health, but no one really knows anything. My grandma's side of the family (cleary) no one is left.
We don't believe Patrick or his wife ever came over to the U.S. My dad says that he's 100% irish, because that's what my grandparents told him. But i looked at ellis island last night, and saw Pierce F. Cleary's passenger list. Says he's British and Irish. And on his passport information, he says he's going back to visit his mother in British Isles, France. So maybe Pierce wasn't 100% irish?

Whitechurch is the town or townland that they lived in. New Ross is the Poor Law Union which is another division. Wexford is the county. It can get very confusing because at different times they referred to different places. Bascially, though they are the same place. An LDS center is a Latter Day Saints Church(Mormons) and they have genealogy centers where you can go and look up records. They are centered in Salt Lake City, Utah and have one of the largest number of records in the world. You can go on line to the site that I mentioned in the last post but if you go to a center, it can be very useful.I would not let the age difference throw you off because if she was the oldest thatwould not be so unusual to have those years between. My sister and her family all live in Chicago. If you want to contact me by email you can. looneybrds(a)aol.com Maybe I can help more. I used to be new to this at one time! Regina

Pierce F. Cleary had my grandmother, Elizabeth (Betty). So it could be the right people. Is New Ross near Wexford?
Pierce Francis Cleary waas born on March 31, 1892 (or 1893). I found his Death notice on here from Ireland. I showed it to my dad and that was the right Pierce.
I live in Chicago. Sorry, i'm new to this, whats an LDS center?
If these are the correct people. my dad is going to be so happy to learn about his family. I'm just not sure about the age difference from Pierce and Mary.

You won't really get Irish records on Ancestry but you could try familysearch.org for some information. I found a record for Pierce Cleary of New Ross and a Mary Cleary born June 23, 1880 of Whitechurch, Wexford, parents: Patrick Cleary and Elizabeth Mary Doyle Cleary. That seems like a good possiblity. I think you mentioned that Pierce had a daughter named Elizabeth which would make sense if you consider Irish naming patterns. Where do you live? If you have access to an LDS center you might be able to find birth records. Other than that you would need to get the records from the GRO in Ireland. If I can still help, let me know. I live in New Jersey Regina

Thanks for that additional info on Elizabeth. I have a ton of info on Pierce Francis, just not on his father, Patrick, or Elizabeth. Pierce was born in Ireland, is there a way to locate birth records from Ireland on here?

On a ship manifest when he arrived in 1914 he lists his mother as next of kin...Elizabeth Cleary of Whitechurch of New Ross which is indeed in Wexford. He was 22 when he arrived on May 30, 1914.According to his passport application that I found on Ancestry, Pierce Francis was born on March 31, 1893 in Wexford as you said. He was living in Lake Forest, Chicago, Illinois for about 7 years when he traveled back to visit his mother and travel to France. His father, Patrick, is deceased when he applied for the passport. You should be able to look up his birth record now that you have this information. If you should come across any Owen/Eugene Cleary relative, I would appreciate any information. Good luck!

No birthplace. We believe Wexford since that's what Pierce Francis Cleary put down on his WW2 registration cards. After Helen died in Chicago, Pierce Francis moved back to Ireland, and where eventually he died in 1963. We have no records on his parents, other than what he listed Patrick Cleary.

I'm trying to find information on my great great grandparents, Patrick Cleary (from Ireland). His son was Pierce Francis Cleary who married Helen Lawless. Pierce came from Ireland around 1914 and settled in Chicago. I found some WW2 records on Pierce Francis who listed his father as Patrick Cleary, but never listed his mother's name. Pierce and Helen had Pierce George Cleary, Elizabeth (Betty), and Edna. I can't seem to find anything on Patrick or his wife. Any help would be appreciated!

Looking for relations of Arthur James Cleary who married Louisa Jones on Christmas Day 1905 in Bromley. On the marriage certificate his father is Patrick, deceased, a stevedore. His address is 101 Barchester Street. I'd like to discover more about him as he was my grandfather.
Thanks
Chris

Hello,
Although it has been over 10 years since these posts, I was wondering if anyone ever found any information on Hugh Cleary, the father of Edward P. Cleary born in 1824 in Nenagh?
I have information on the family up until Edward.
Thank you-
