Hi. I know it's been a couple of years since you posted this, but I just found it. I am also looking for information regarding possibly this line of Clearys. My great-grandfather was Stanislaus Patrick Cleary who married Margaret Meany in New York. I don't have any birth/death information and can find nothing on him. My grandmother's middle name was Gertrude. I think there may be a connection. I know he died young and left my great grandmother a widow with 3 children, including my grandmother. Any information that could be provided would be helpful. Thanks.

Hi June,
I've been having a look at the census info I and cant get an accurate date of birth for Thomas Cleary which is abit annoying! 1891 and 1901 census have him being born abt 1851 but with the 1911 census it has him being born in abt 1845. In 1911 Thomas and his other children were living with his daughter Mary and her new husband in Widnes, its his son in law that has filled in the details on the census doc and I'm wondering if he's just guessed Thomas's age, as he has him down as 66 where as if he was born in 1851 he would only have been 60. So I'm in abit of a quandary at the moment, he was most certainly from Wooddown though as that part of the census is quite detailed. Either that or the 1851 & 1901 census are wrong!
Thanks for all your help, its been really nice to find a link after a number of years searching.
Best regards
Helen

Hi again Helen,
I have been toying with the idea of writing to the Cleary's in Wooddown as there are still Cleary's living there but haven't gotten round to it yet to see if they can fill in any gaps!
I found a list of Cleary Families in Killucan Parish and I will type it up this afternoon and send it to you as there are a few Thomas Cleary's on it: There is a Thomas born 6th Feb 1832 parents John Cleary & Mary Leavy, Thomas born 27th November 1848 parents Patrick Cleary & Elizabeth Fagan, Thomas born 4th Sept 1838 parents James Cleary & Marcella Colgan, Thomas born 1st Feb 1891 parents Patrick Cleary & Mary Smyth in Wooddown - thats all the Thomas's I have on the list but as I said I will type the list up and get it sent to you!
Kind Regards, June

Hello,
That's really kind of you, thank you. I shall have a look at this. Be interested to know if you manage to find anything else out. Plus I agree, if they did the Irish equivalent of this it would be so much easier!!
best regards,
Helen

Hi again Helen,
Well it certainly looks like we may have the same Cleary family. I will look through my stuff and get back to you asap. My genealogy software seems to have packed up at the moment so cannot access it at the moment but will certainly have a look for you.
I wish the Cleary's in Ireland would start doing family history cause it would make it a simpler task!

Hi June,
Many thanks for responding, the Thomas Cleary I'm looking for was also from Co West Meath, WoodDown, just outside Mullingar (probably a couple of miles out side Mullingar), having recently had access to the 1911 census I've been able to confirm this which is great. I'm somewhat stuck now on his parents! I know that he married a Catherine Monaghan but thats all I know, if this ties in with any info you have would be great to hear from you. But will contact Gordon aswell as mentioned.
Best regards,
Helen

Hi Helen,
I think your question should go to Gordon who is on one of the earlier threads. His ancestors came from the Kilbride area of southern Ireland which I think is probably County Cavan whereas my ancestors came from the Mullingar area which is County Westmeath. He definately mentions a Thomas Cleary! Sorry I could not be of any futher help to you but I am sure if you put the question to him he will advise you.
Kind regards, June

Hello,
Looking for some help, I (think) I've just found out that my descendant Thomas Cleary for whom I believe was born in wood down co.west meath in abt 1845. Wondered if this was part of the same family that has been previously discussed as I notice mentioned that the family included a 'Thomas'. Does anyone have any birth dates so that I can either tie in or rule out this family link?
Many thanks
Helen

I had an idea...(wow) it might be interesting to put the place of origin in
the subject lines of all our Cleary families...for instance,,,mine came from
Neenah, Tipperary..then if I see one of yours from there, I could make
contact...that way it wouldn;t be such a "needle in the haystack"
What do you think?
Judy
Sounds great to me :)

Pamela, I am not sure if this is right, but my grandfathers name was Jesse Leo Cleary. He died on 11/26/03 in Helena, MT. My father is Richard Cleary and he is from Wenatchee, WA. My Cleary family reside in Washington and Montana. When I saw that you family had a child named Leo I thought maybe you could be mine. I am not sure if I have my information correct, but I was told as a young girl that my last name was O'clear or something like that, but my family changed it to Cleary to sound more american. If any of this rings a bell please let me know.
