Hi Phylis, I'm Kathy Burkey, missy's oldest sister. I don't think she has been doing much with research, but I keep working on it. I have lots on Leslie T. cleary and Alice A. Hambrook, but wonder if anyone has a completed family tree out there. Also looking for pictures to add to my stuff.

Marianne, I have not been able to locate Elizabeth Larkin Cleary prior to the 1965 Kansas STATE census (Lawrence, Ka.),but I know they emigrated in 1852 and I find her oldest son at Fort Riley living with another family in 1855. I am looking for those missing years. An amazing woman, she continued westward in Kansas, farming on the frontier.
Thankyou for replying, Dori

Do you know if your Elizabeth Larkin/Cleary came to Philadelphia PA? I will try and look for more info to see if there is any connection.
Thanks,
Marianne

My family tree contains both Cleary & Larkin surnames. My great, great grandfather was John Cleary who died sometime close to 1850 during the potato famine. His wife Elizabeth Larkin Cleary was then widowed with 4 small children. The youngest, John (again)was born in Dublin in November in 1850. She is on the 1851 Dublin census. They had come from a "place near Galway Bay" My search leads me to believe it might be Connemara. In Dublin, the story goes they "were in the liquor business" but being Catholic they probably were not owners.
The widow, Elizabeth Larkin Cleary and her 4 small children came to America in 1852.
What caught my eye in your post was the name --William, a name the Cleary family consistantly used in every generation as first or middle name.
I have long thought that Elizabeth Larkin Cleary very well might have traveled with relatives or met relatives when she arrived here in America. Is their a possible connection?
