Hi Rosemary and Barb. Yes it can get confusing since people forget that there are two Joseph Clearys. Father and son, the father was married to the Uknown Warren and then Joseph the son was married to the Eagan. Now I know the Craig family married into the Cleary one by the 3rd generation. So far I do not have a Annie Craig in my papers.

Hi Rosemary,
I was just on ancestry and there seems to be at least 2 people who are researching the same Joseph Cleary born 1745 and both appear to have different information. One shows married to Annie Craig and someone else shows the Warren/Egan.
As I said previously, I have no personal knowledge, but I can see how one can become totally confused.

Hi Rosemary,
I may have the wrong tree and not you. I have no personal documentation for any of this. I have just been reading the thread and became interested when I saw that Joseph born in 1745 had several sons, most of whose names are common in the Cleary family I am researching. Your information may very well be correct. My Cleary family is from Tullamore back to 1810 and have no information prior to that time.
The person in England has a Thomas Cleary born in 1781 (same as Joseph's son) so I thought it may have been him. When I spoke to her, she doesn't think so because she believes the Cleary's from Geashell were of Protestant faith and ours are Catholic.
I am sorry for any confusion I have caused.
Look at the 3rd messeage in this thread May 12 by Sarah. She has Pater as the father of Joseph. I think I also saw it somewhere on the Mormon web site that Pater was the father of someone named Joseph.

I need a little clarification here. I am either not at the right family or I have an error somewhere. I show this Joseph Cleary b 1778 (in the header) as the son of Joseph Warren Cleary born 1745. It appears that this is the same Joseph Cleary you refer to as being born in 1745. I have his siblings as William, Henry and Fanny, so I was missing Bessie.
My confusion comes with the father. You refer to Pater Cleary as the father. I show the father as William Pool Cleary born 1720, married to Margaret Warren. I don't have documentation for this information, so would like to be sure about what is correct. I have not spent a great deal of time on this line, so there are a lot of missing pieces.
Any help you can offer would be greatly appreciated.
Thanks,
Rosemary

Just what I was looking for.
Just in case anyone is interested the person in England is a descendant of Thomas Cleary c1781, which very well may be the son of Joseph. She has a lot of information on this line from Thomas downward
Thanks again

Are you refering back to the post that said Pater Cleary had 5 children? If that is the case, Pater's children were:
Joseph Cleary,b c 1745
Elizabeth (Bessy) b c 1747
William b c 1749
Henry Cleary b c 1751
Fanny Cleary b c 1753
I read somewhere that Pater Cleary allegedly had 18 children. One set of triplets. 6 of the 18 were girls, but have never been able to verify that fact.

Hi
I am also researching the Cleary family. Do you know the name of the 5 children? I am working with someone from England whose Thomas may be the son of Joesph. My John Cleary was born in 1810, but is not the son of Joseph, but I think his father is one of the brothers. My John Cleary named his 1st son Peter and his other son Thomas. I too have Daniel, William, Edward, John, James, etc
Thank you

According to a cousin, my great, great, grandfather John Cleary who immigrated from Ireland had a brother named Phillip who came to the US and lived near Westminister MD probably in the 1840s to 1860s. He was a farmer and had a daughter.
I located a Phillip Cleary born in Ireland in Carrol County Maryland (Westminister is in the county or close by) in the 1850 census. He was married to Honora and had 4 children. On further searches I found a family tree including what appears to be contain the same Phillip Cleary. There is no information about brothers or parents for him in the tree. Unfortunately there is no name or contact information attached to the tree. I would be interested in contacting anyone with an interest in or information about the Phillip Cleary of Carrol County Maryland or his descendants.
