Dear Board Users:
Please help me maintain this board for your best possible use. When you post a message, one of Post Message fields is titled "Surnames." In this area type ALL surnames you mention within the body of your posting, but no others. This allows your posting to be properly surname-indexed for the Advanced Search function (to the right of the Search box at the top of the message board). The correct way to type surnames in the "Surname" area is shown below:
smith, jones, anderson, johnson
OR
Smith, Jones, Anderson, Johnson
OR
SMITH, JONES, ANDERSON, JOHNSON
1. Please, do NOT use dashes, slash marks, dots, or semicolons between surnames. Use a comma (followed by a space, if you like) between multiple names. The comma is crucial.
2. Please do NOT enter surnames that you do not mention in the body of your posting.
3. If your posting contains no surnames, leave the "Surname" field blank.
Using the "Surname" field correctly allows other people to find your postings by means of the Advanced Search feature. When others can find your postings effectively, you have a better chance of having your queries answered and finding people who are related to you.
If you are not familiar with Ancestry's powerful Advanced Search feature for the message boards, please give it a try. It will let you quickly locate postings on this message board (or on any other board) that contain certain words and/or surnames. This can save hours of unnecessary reading and lead you directly to messages that are relevant to you.
If you have any questions about the "Surname" field or the Advanced Search function, please don't hesitate to post a question to the board or e-mail me directly. You will find my e-mail address under "Links & Announcements."
Thanks for your help,
Barbara
