I have just started my search and it appears that you have gotten further than I have....I did not know my great grandmothers maiden name, thanks for the tip.

In 1911 there were 2 Clearys living in suva- Jas J -salesman, and Jno- draper. I also know someone who is interested in this family. I will pass this info on and she can contact you

I don't see any connection right now. My family was from the South Side of Scranton. Prospect St, Cherry St, Elm St and Willow St. I only got as far back as 1892. That was when my great great grandmother (Alice) passed away leaving behind her husband Andrew and I believe three small boys named Edward, Andrew, and John.
Hi all,
Apologies to those of you receiving more than one copy of this. An odd
'almost meeting' happened in Ireland last month. When I called my cousin Míchéal,
he informed me that I just missed a Yank cousin by less than 30 minutes, whose
grandmother was the sister of my grandmother. Yesterday, I got a call from
him, guess Míchéal shared my work number with him. Anyway, have already
received many pics via email, of my Cleary family in the 1930s, farm pics, etc., and
some key information. Even though I have been to Clare County twice, I have
yet to get out to Holy Island (in the middle of Lough Derg) where my Clearys
are buried. And the first pic I downloaded was of a Cleary memorial stone on
Holy Island.
Sometimes, you just have to be in the right place at the right time. I went
to Ireland twice to visit my cousins, not to research, and somehow, someone
always found some little bit of info to give me. One cousin gave me a copy of
my great-grandfather's memorial card. Another introduced me to Sean Allen who
let me photograph his family's very old record book, showing all the
CLEARY-ALLEN links, with baptismal sponsors, dates, parents, and in some cases, date of
marriage.
I keep remembering odd bits my cousins have told me. And the pieces keep
falling into place. My great-great grandmother who I thought to be Mary Conway,
may actually be a Mary Hogan. Will need some help with that line.
The main point I'm trying to make is this, never give up, keep an open mind,
pay attention to the details. Look for those other folks researching your
lines, even if they are working on a different line, you may learn some key
evidence or method that will let you get one step further.

Once again thakyou for the information and if others can help in finding out what happened to the Cleary line in Fiji the information would be appreciated

Hi Bruce
I'm doing research on a WWI airman, 2/Lt. V. G. Stanton, Royal Flying Corp. He was an observer/gunner in a Bristol fighter, (F2B) serial number B1211. His pilot was 2/Lt. M. H. Cleary, son of Mr. and Mrs. John Cleary, of Suva, Fiji. They were with the 62nd Sqn. and shared a victory on the 24th March 1918. The enemy aircraft was observed out of control. On 28th March 1918 after midday they were on a trench strafe mission somewhere east of Villers Bretonneaux, near Amiens. On this mission 2/Lt. M.H. Cleary was KIA and 2/Lt. V.G. Stanton was wounded and taken POW, dying of his wounds the next day. Being a trench strafing mission it would be a guess that their Bristol Fighter was brought down by ground fire.
Michael Hugh Cleary was trained on the 1st course, NSW State Aviation School, Richmond. You may wish to search the Aust. War Mem. site, www.awm.gov.au under Red Cross Wounded and Missing. There are 5 pages of report. Page2 and page 5 are the same, page 5 is the clearest. There is also an entry for him on the Commonwealth War Graves Commission web site. His name is commemorated on the Arras Flying Services Memorial, Pas de Calais, France. In the search I've done so far, I've been told there is a picture of him in the book by Bennett titled, "Highest Traditions", wish I had a copy.
This may be information you already have but I thought I'd pass it along just in case.
