Oh my gosh,,,Charlies is not a real famous Irish name....and my missing
ancestors are from Cork or Tipperary...My ggrandfather was Wm born in
1842 and his brother was Patrick born in 1840 or so...not sure.
ANYWAY......William named my grandfather, Charles Independence Cleary
(born on the 4th of July), but they came right to the U.S. as teenagers,
married and died here. (Wm. and Pat) This is the first time in my life
that I ever heard of another Charles Cleary...hummmmmmmmm I am so
frustrated about finding these people...The father was Denis Cleary and
the mother was Elizabeth (Eliza) Parker Cleary...thats it. I have a
picture of Denis, but not a thing of information on him or the family.
I hope we can help each other.
Judy

Do not know if there is any connection, but my ggrandfather was Patrick Cleary, born abt 1809 in Ireland (county ??), and he was married to Roseanna Reilly, born abt 1830 in Ireland (again, county??). They came to U.S. in 1848, already married and arriving in Boston. They eventually travelled to Long Island City, N.Y., and then migrated west, having children along the way. There trail ends in Mt. Sterling, Brown County, Illinois, during the 1880 census.
Hi Carole,
My ggrandfather was Charles J. Cleary who was born in 1865 in Pennsylvania.
His parents were Thomas and Margaret Carney Cleary who were from I believe
Tipperary, Ireland. Thomas was born sometime in the 1840's. Your Charles
possibly could have been his father. What other information do you have on
Charles John Cleary and his family? Did any of his children leave Australia
and come to the US?
Hope to hear from you, Linda R. Krug

Hi All,
Sorry for this shameless plug, and I apologize in advance
for those of you who will receive this more than once, but want let you all
know
about a very good seminar being held in Long Beach,
California July 18-20, 2002. This is being hosted by the
British Isles Family History Society - USA, and top
lecturers, authors, researchers will be lecturing about
genealogical research for people having ancestors in
England, Ireland, Scotland, and Wales.
I went to this event last year and one part of it was a
research field trip to FHL center of Los Angeles in Santa
Monica. The lecturers and other researchers are available
to help with your personal research. You need only bring
family group sheets and these will be reviewed and advice
offered. For me, I was able to get back to my 7th
great-grandfather from one piece of advice. This is a
famous Scottish family for which much research has already
been done. This family [HANNA] is documented by many historians
back to about 1250 at Sorbie Castle.
I can't guarantee you would have this kind of breakthrough,
but have to tell you, I have heard similar stories from
others.
The speakers are:
- Kyle Betit, co-author of "A Genealogist Guide to
Discovering Your Irish Ancestors" and "Ireland: A
Genealogical Guide"
- Nancy Lee Bier, co founder of BIFHS-USA and current
director of Irish Studies Group at LAFHLC. Nancy is about
to publish two new books on Irish records. Nancy is a
professional researcher and conducts tours to England,
Ireland, and Scotland.
- Else Churchill, Genealogy Officer of Society of
Genealogists with 20 years experience as a professional
librarian and researcher, formerly was Librarian of
Heraldic and Genealogical Studies in Canterbury. She is
known for her interests in 17th century records and the
Victorian Censuses.
- Jan Gow, New Zealand Society President and council member
of AFFHO (Australasian Federation Family History Officers).
Jan has been leading tours to Salt Lake City, Utah and
Ireland, England, Scotland, and Wales since 1992. She is a
professional genealogist and owner of Beehive Books.
- Linda Jonas, co-author (with Paul Milner) of two books on
British genealogical research. Linda is past president of
BIFHS-USA and current director of McLean VA FHC. Linda
moved to Virginia to research Colonial Records.
- Ivan C. Johnson, born in rural England, is an Economics
Professor at the California State University at Northridge
(California). Ivan is author of books on economics and
lectures on genealogical research in England and Europe.
- Beth McCarty, current director of Orange FHC
(California). Beth holds a Bachelor's Degree from Cal
State Univ at Long Beach. She has been doing genealogical
research of over 30 years and has specialized in English
research for the last 20 years.
- Barbara Renick has 30 years research experience in
Eastern Europe and Tennessee. She has taught genealogical
computer classes since 1985 and lectures at numerous
regional and national genealogical conferences since 1983.
- Lisa Schumaker is currently a Technical Support
Consultant, has 30 years experience in computer field
working for Torrance and Long Beach School Districts. She
has 15 years experience in genealogical research and is a
staff supervisor at LAFHC.
- Dr. I.D.E. Thomas - Clergyman, scholar, author, former
BBC Commentator, born in Amman Valley, Carmarthenshire,
South Wales. He travels annually to Japan, Korea, and
Taiwan to preach. Author of numerous books including his
current bestseller "Man of the Millenium: Shakespear and
His Bible."
