The family names are the same, at least.
My grandmother was Stella M. Cleary (b Jun 1894 in Peterborough, Ont --- d 1994 in N. Vancouver, British Columbia).
She was one of 4 children born to William James Cleary(1868-1950) and Margaret Mary Carey(1873-1935) of Peterborough, Ont.
Her father (the above Wm. Jas Cleary) was the son of William Cleary (1838-1913) and Margaret Rihally/Reilly (1842-1819)
The above William Cleary was the son of William Cleary and Catherine Dougherty who arrived in Canada as part of the Peter Robinson Immigration project of 1823-25.
Of course it was common for the many children of these couples to emigrate to the great cities immediatly to the south (Detroit, Philadelphia, Chicago) and we have some records of that ---

Hi,
I have CLEARYs but no O'BRIENs. I have two Mary (nee CONWAY) CLEARYs but
neither left Ireland. The second Mary CONWAY had 9 children but none were
named Mary.
I would suggest you get the families 1900, 1910, & 1920 US census record.
One of those will tell you what year this person came to USA.
Then get the complete Naturalization record. There would likely be a clue in
there.
You could also get the passenger record, but it most likely would say this
person is simply 'from Ireland'. It may tell much more though.
Since your person was born in Ireland I would suggest you search the birth
index of Ireland for this one, (hopefully, you at least know this person's
approximate year of birth).
Both O'BRIENs and CLEARYs are numerous in County Clare.
The 1890 Matheson report shows the following distribution of births in
Ireland for O'BRIENs:
Dublin 105
Cork 139
Clare 47
Waterford 47
Tipperary 74
Limerick 78
I have numerous CLEARY cousins in Ireland and I believe there are some in
each of the above counties except for Limerick and Cork, and also one CLEARY
cousin is in Kildare County.
Hope that helps,
Jim McNamara

Hi, I have not researched my husband's Cleary (Clery) family yet. My husband's grandfather James O'Brien was born May 3, 1863 in Troy, New York to James O'Brien (we believe he was also born in Troy) and Mary Cleary born in Ireland. I do not know if they had any other children. I did write to the Cleary's I found on the internet in Troy but no one answered me. There were not many.
James and Mary Cleary O'Brien's son James eventually landed up in Manhattan and married Theresa Cloonan in 1884. Their children were John, James, Joseph, Theresa, Margaret, Helen, Mary, Cecilia, and Catherine.
I will keep your message on file and hope you will do the same for me. James Cleary's and Mary Cleary O'Brien's had a child born around the same time.

I am looking for information on my gggrandfather Thomas Cleary who married Margaret Carney. Thomas was born around 1840's, in Ireland. I believe his father was William Cleary. The family was from Cork. When Thomas arrived here he finally settled in Pennsylvania. My ggrandfather Charles Cleary was born in 1865, in PA. The name of Reilly seems to have a connection to my Cleary line. Any information will be appreciated. Linda

>I am in search of any information regarding ancestors or living relatives of my grand parents William Joseph Cleary, Sr. and his wife Francis Reilly.
Both are buried in Holy Selpechre Cemetery in Philadelphia along with William's parents who were Mary and Walter Cleary and a brother or uncle
named Walter who I believe died at age 39. William also had at least one other brother named Eugene. He had three sisters who I believe were
nuns. The children of William and Francis were Walter, William (my father), Joseph, Mary, Sally and Francis. My grandmother died in childbirth at
the age of 42. My grandfather died in September of 1958. William and Frances lived in the Mount Airy area around Germantown Avenue. They
may also have lived on Nippon Street for a time. My grandfather worked for either a battery or electric company. If you have any information, I
would be delighted to hear from you.
Stuart:
Do you know where they were from?
Where they were born?
Where they Married?
Their religion?
My Clearys came to Peterborough Ontario in the Peter Robinson immigration scheme of 1825 and some of the names are the same and some of the
family did move south into the States --- but the info you give is insufficient to show any connection. Let me know if you have more detail as to dates
& places.
