Thank you for your reply on Malachy Cleary. I would like to see what you have on Malachy and his family, and if you have the name of the supposed first wife ( the mother of his daughter, Mary Cleary) as well as any parents, etc. going back on this line. If you like, you can e-mail me at my home account at: alroh(a)willard-oh.com. Thank you.

I have some information on Malachy Cleary, as he is from the same branch of Cleary's that I am related to. My Grandfather, (did not bear the surname of Cleary) but his father was Thomas Cleary from Bekan Ireland, which is just down the road from Claremorris.

I am looking for any information on the ancestors or family of Malachy Cleary who was born about 1815 in or near Crossboyne & Tagheen, County Mayo, Ireland. He married there on July 2, 1839 to Margaret Sweeney (born about 1819) and had at least 5 sons: William (1844), Patrick (born 1847 and died young), Patrick Joseph (August 27, 1851), Edward (July 7, 1853) and Peter (1855). Malachy had a daughter, Mary Cleary (born September 10, 1835 in Clare, County Mayo) apparently by a previous wife. Malachy Cleary died in Momence, Kankakee County, Illinois on February 8, 1884. Margaret Sweeney Cleary died on August 28, 1885 in Momence.

I've been told my ancestor's are from County Clare; we're "Markham" now but my uncle tells me the original name was "O'Markahan."
My great-grandfather, James Markham, was born in Ireland (son of Thomas Markham & Mary Ryan), moved to Lowell Massachusetts and married Nora Hickey in 1890.
One of his children became the auxillary Bishop of Boston (Thomas F. Markham).

Hi Joseph...those names are sooo common in my lines also..My great grandfather was Wm...and his brother Patrick, born around 1840's....either in Cork or Tipperary, but leaning towards Cork...the boys at 18 and 19 left and came to Marquette, Mi., thru Montreal port...they were both stonemasons. I am positive they left siblings back in Ireland....Wms namesin his line are Charles, Henry,Mary,Thomas,Wm,Jack,/Joseph, old joke, but they say that everyone born in Ireland had to be named after a saint and that Ireland only had two saints to their name..Wm and Patrick, thru we have zillions of them...sad tho cause it so hard to find people.
