I only recently found out through the 1901 Irish Census that my grandfather P.F. Cleary was not an only child or only son,as my father and I am. His brother Thomas and all his children are our newest found Clearys. We would be so happy to know about any of these cousins and their knowledge of my ggrandparents and their history there. We visited there last June but we didn't have certifed documents with dates until our return.
We hope some of Thomas's children and family are out there somewhere???

I am attempting to locate possible relatives and find out where the Clearys came from in Ireland. Patrick Cleary and his wife, (Mary) Honora O'Brien Cleary came over
around 1848 and settled in Ellenville, NY. Several sons, William, Michael and Cornelius I think, started Cleary Brothers Transportation Company on the Erie Canal. William
E. became a Congressional Representative to the US Congress from Brooklyn around 1920. Would you have any information that might help me?
Thanks.

Hi Listers,
My grandfather Daniel Martin McNAMARA came to Boston in 1906. I have his
passenger record. It says he came with $10 in his pocket, and was to stay
with his sister Mrs. Moylan of 28 Wiett St., Sommerville, Mass. This was
actually his future sister in law...It lists his last residence as
Ennistymon, Ireland. This was actually just where he stayed before the ship
left. Daniel arrived on 5-MAY-1906, on board the ARABIC (II), sailing from
Queenstown. Daniel is listed as being 21 years old and his occupation is
listed as farmer-laborer. Daniel is found in the 1901 census of Ireland in
the townland of Lecarrow Lower (Laccaroe), co Clare, with his father Daniel
McNAMARA his mother Hanora McGrath, his brother John, his sisters Margaret
and Hanora.
My grandmother Anne Marie CLEARY came to Boston in 1911. I did not find her
passenger record. It seems to be just after the end of the film. I did find
her with her family in the 1901 and 1911 census of Ireland in the townland of
Cloontyconnaught (Clounty). The family members in 1901 were father - Michael
CLEARY, the mother Mary CONWAY, the siblings, Margaret, Kate, Thomas, Anne,
Michael, John, Elizabeth, and the father's mother also Mary CONWAY.
Daniel Martin McNAMARA and Anne Marie CLEARY were married in Boston according
to family sources. From the time of arrival of Anne and the date of the
birth of their first child in New York, they were married between 1911 and
early 1917 (I'm guessing 1916). Daniel Martin and Anne Marie had four
children, Marie b. 1917, Daniel b. 1919, Joseph b. 1921, and Anne Louise (AKA
Nancy) b. 1925.
>From my father's birth record, this family lived at 101 W 102nd St. in Feb of
1919.
Daniel Martin lists his occupation as chauffeur.
In Dec of 1936, from SS-5 records this family lives at 352 West 44 Street,
NY, NY
In Sep of 1945, when my father was discharged from WWII service this family's
address was 64 West 104th Street, NY, NY.
Before my father died, he wrote a few pages of what his life was like growing
up in New York (Manhattan Borough). I will post this to the group as well.
It is quite interesting. He boxed in Golden Gloves competition, sang at
Carneighe Hall, and had many different ways to make money.

Hi, I am searching a Cleary line from Tipton, IL. The Cleary's I have are my gggrandmotherr Catherine Cleary who was born in Tipton in 1876, and her father John Cleary born in Ireland, not sure where, ~1808. Could my John be related to your Cleary's in Ireland? I have had no luck to date trying to find his local origin within Ireland. It would be fantastic luck, if we are connected. Please E-mail me at colortek2000(a)aol.com.
Thanks a ton for reading this.

Hi Dianne,
Thanks for the info. So far I have no information on Mary Cleary other than she was born in Ireland, married James O'Brien and had at least one child named James H. or J. O'Brien who was born in Troy, New York in 1863 and eventually landed up in NYC. His father may also have been born in Troy. If my research shows any connection, I will contact you. Happy hunting. Carol
