Hi,
I'm posting this just because of the CLEARY/O'BRIEN surnames. I have a CLEARY/O'BRIEN line.
They are William CLEARY b. abt.1816 in Lismore, County Waterford, Ireland. He married Ellen O'BRIEN (BRIEN) b. 1820 in Ballyduff or Lismore, County Waterford, Ireland. They married in 1839. It appears they imigrated to Massachusetts aprox. 1841 Oldest child Mary Cleary b. 1840 in Ireland, son James A. Cleary b. 1842 (Boston) the next part of their life is unclear and unconfirmed but they may have met other relatives (CLEARY and/or O'BRIEN) in the Charlestown area of Mass and lived there for awhile. They then settle in S. Berwick Maine (also live across the river in Rollinsford, N.H. for a bit) and Wm. enlists in the Civil War where he is killed in 1864. Ellen lives on until 1882 in S. Berwick, Me.
There seem to be a lot of CLEARYs and O'BRIEN/BRIENs in the Lismore area of Waterford County Ireland from early on.
If none of this rings a bell with CLEARY/O'BRIEN researchers at least it might give ideas for places to research.
I have additional information on ALL (9) children of Wm. and Ellen CLEARY. Contact me for details. Best of luck in your research, dianne

Hi Carol,
My Lizzie Cleary and son, George P. lived in Troy, NY, on First St. I found out that George's father was Patrick Cleary who owned a saloon at the same address. You can check Troy, NY census-1920 and Troy, NY city directory 1890. There are other Cleary families listed in the directory. Good luck! Gail.

Hi Gail,
Thanks for the reply and info.I do not know how the name McLean got into the subject matter. So far, I have not come across the name in my search. Only yesterday did I spot this error and also came across someone else who said their was an error in his. Right before the attack on the World Trade Center I went to the Library at 42nd Street to look up James and Mary Cleary O'Brien's son's obituary (James H. or J. O'Brien)in the hope it would give me some family info. Unfortunately, it did not. Other than the family coming from Troy, and their son eventually coming to NYC, I have no info on Mary Cleary's family or her husband's family. Do you know where in NY Lizzie and her son lived?
I would think that it is quite possible that family followed family to different areas. I know that James and Mary Cleary O'Brien's son James lived at 1351 East First Ave. in Manhattan in the 1890's and probably earlier.
I still need to check NYC and Troy Census Records for the family. I will keep your info on file. If I find any connection or info that can help you, I will contact you. Good luck to you too. Carol

My CLEARY family lived at 434 First St., Troy,NY in 1920. Elizabeth "Lizzie" Murray Cleary( b. Ireland, 1852) was a widow, living with her son, George P. Cleary b. 1887, NY. (I don't know his father's first name) Lizzie's maiden name was Murray, not McLean as previously stated. She was my mother's aunt. Perhaps George P. Cleary is a cousin of your James J. or H. Good luck! Gail

Hello,
I recently found information suggesting that Margaret CLEARY, born 1680 in
Ireland, was the wife of Thomas CONNER of MD and SC. They were the parents
of Thomas Jr., John, and Rebecca. They are found in SC, where Margaret died
in 1764 and Thomas died in 1768.
Margaret may have had brothers named Simon and Timothy, who may have died
1775 in NC. I cannot be sure if Margaret was in MD or NC, but my
information suggests she died in SC.
Does anyone have a CLEARY family in MD, NC, or SC at this time? Does anyone
recognize Margaret, Simon, or Timothy CLEARY?
Are there any CLEARY resources that cover this time period that anyone can
recommend? I'd love to hear from anyone with information about this family.
Thanks,
Gordon Kirkemo

This is Al Cleary in Georgia. Birthplace=Derry, New Hampshire. I would like a copy of the newsletter if it is still available. Any info re: Cleary's born in Wales?
Not a whiff of a Robert I'm afraid. Plenty of Mary's and Margaret's but none
registered as having a child born around 1879.

Dear Carol,
I am very excited and pleased to get your response. I hoped that someone would eventually find my message and make a connection.
My grandfather was James Reardon, the oldest sibling of the 3 sisters-Kitty,etc.. I have done extensive research back 200 years. We have been to Ireland twice and last year visited the Reardon family plot of land there.
When I was young I heard about Uncle Frank and Aunt Kitty and Anna Mae, but I never understood the relationship then.
I even have old pictures which are Calif relatives I can't identify.
Bea was Bridget, by the way, not Beatrice.
I am very interested in details of California family as I have little.
Will gladly share what I have.
Sincerely,
R. Terry
