That is interesting about what he actually did to get paid during the Revolutionary War. Did you also visit Randolph County Courthouse? I found an old map of Guilford County, and based on some court records about the laying out of a road, I found was able to determine the approximate location of where Jacob lived near/on the Guilford/Randolph county line.

You have Lorenzo's name as Lorenzo Dow but it was Lorenzo
H. Clearwaters (Jacob, David, John, Lorenzo all had an
"s" on Clearwaters. All the land records and marriage
licenses have "s" but a few don't. We have kept the "s".

I never knew that Jacob Clearwaters was ever in S.C. He
lived in Guilford and Randolph Co., N.C. When he left
there he went to Greene Co., TN; then to Clinton Co., OH
He was still in N.C. when Mary "Polly" Clearwaters Weaver
was born abt 1793.

I think that it was a guess because they were both in N.C.
and Benjamin fought in the Rev. War at Guilford's Courthouse. Jacob was a Quaker and helped built the
stockade to hold the British prisoners and stood guard
for 106 days.
We went to Guilford Co., N.C. a few years back and did
research and then went to Green Co., TN to their courthouse
also. We also went to the Quaker Church they attended. I
guess he was put out of the church for "frolicking".

I am from the Martin W Clearwaters b1813 OH (son of David Clearwaters c1781NC) that you mention. You state that he has a sister Elizabeth Ann Clearwaters b1817 IN. Would you share the info you have on her? And do you show them having another sister, Matilda Clearwaters c1816?
my email is s.strong(a)comcast.net

What proof did you find that Jacob and Benjamin are brothers? I suspect they are, or at least some kind of kin, but I couldn't find anything definite.

Did you mean to say Jacob was in NORTH Carolina in 1790? Not South Carolina? There was a Benjamin Clearwater in South Carolina then, been trying to figure out how he fits in for years, him and that Sylvester Clearwater in Virginia/Maryland.
My great-grandmother was Matilda Catherine Clearwater, daughter of John Clearwater and Matilda Jane Williams and sister to your Lorenzo Dow Clearwater, and John's parents are David Clearwater and Mary Miller, and then ol' elusive Jacob.
It's so unfortunate that the Quaker records for their NC Meeting, for the most part, no longer exist! I keep saying I'm going to take a trip to Randolph County and dig around in the courthouse records - you never know what you might uncover that some earlier researcher missed. Same thing with going to Guilford County where the Quaker records are kept.

The Jacob Clearwaters that is the father to the decendents
of Cloyd is not the same Jacob that you have from Holland.
If you have some proof of the connection, I would be so
happy to tie into the New Paltz Jacob. I have our Jacob
as the brother of Benjamin that fought in the Rev. War
in N.C. Jacob was on the tax rolls in 1790 in N.C.

Are line is from David Clearwaters, son of Jacob & Elizabeth
His son John, his son Lorenzo, his son Albert, his son Conard, and my husband Ronald. We have never proved that
they are from the line in New Paltz, N.Y. Jacob was in
South Carolina in 1790 and Ron joined SAR (Sons of the
American Revolution) under Jacob.
We still have to prove that Elizabeth's last name was
Armstrong too.
